I truely think emiel duekhiem's perspective of religion it's a bit cynical provocative ! For emiel durkheim religion pulls people together ! Let's start from this , if it's so don't you think durkheil fell as an easy prey into the vortex of ambivalence ! Emiel duekheim thinks highly of the organic solidarity however in mean while sees religion as a pre held value or as an Unshakeable ground that unifies people since morals aren't sufficient to bring Union to society ! But there is that missing puzzle in his perspective if emiel durkheim sees organic solidarity as a promising solidarity ! He should take in consideration that Religion works better in mechanic solidarity ! Well in other word as ''Europe current illness'' illustrated how religion was a great impediment for the islamic immigrants to integrate into the secular system of deutch france or german ! Which lead to such ambivalent ! Here we fall into the trap of cross culturlar perspective because here Religion falls short to fulfill its primary function ! Ok we all know and as '' introduction of Anthropology of religion'' had emphasized religion can vary within the same society ! We've found that religion is distributed more than it is shared ! Of course culture could be devided as the book has illustrated to 4 domains if we want to study religion as one of those four domains we have to study the political system and take the economic system into consideration as well as the second domain of culture ! I'm not referring to culture here as the whole complex however what caught my attention in that book was '' we tend to see others behaviour and cooking , style or even other cultures as differents from our own but we never think it's wrong but it's not the case with religion we tend to determine other religions that vary from our own as wrong'' back to durkheim the question herr is what if we fall into the category of cross cultural will religion still pull people together or will it lose its primary ! Ok as we all know emiel durkheim was a positivism ! The question here why does he think religion and not science or individualism like his other positivism peers ! Well if we could invoke freud's perspective of the rise of culture maybe it will make sense since cultur started with crime , cannibal crime ! I guess if we dig deeper than this it will explain itsself without us getting involved ! What freud's perspective of culture shows us how oppression and repression generated the culture the feelings of guilt after the murder of the father ! It's the rise of ego Carl Jung had talked about that too in his book the psychology of religion what all that had shown us ! And how is it relevant to emiel durkheim's perspective oh religion if religion pulls people together then how ?! I think psychotherapy had the answer by oppression and repression ! By the creation of the shadow ! Or in other term the subconscious ! How does religion work !? It's about what we mustn't do ! It mirrors the profane and sacred ! The shadow and the conscious ! But what will happen with the dissolution of ego ?! The ego continue to exist through the social life and vice versa thus religion makes sure to provide the ego with everything that is necessary for its continuation ! How the child develop its ego through faith and norms values traditions ! Then we start judging that's what jean piaget had referred to as the egocentric of the child but what interest us here is how religion pulls people together in spite of the ambivalence we've encountered earlier ! It's through the oppression and repression ! What we mustn't do ! If we want to combine psychotherapy with how clifford redifined culture '' Man is an animal suspended in web of significances he himself has spun'' it's the shadow the unconscious part that reflects the web of significances ! The entrenched program that has drilled in everyone's head starting from his birth by society ! And Religion is a component of that system that unifies society through the program we receive !
