Hummer had MT Tires. Touareg had Street Tires. Imagine how good the Touareg would be, with good traction tires. BTW ... Great Video, dude. Thanks for posting.
Nagy Andras They could be driving them on the street. Never taking them out to play. Granted, they aren't exactly ready for the off road stuff. But it looks like they're having fun.

Why does smoke come from the car engine in a cold weather even tho the car's heating is normal ??? Can someone answer pls because it happens to me on cold weather at the stop light
I had a brand new TOUAREG model 2008 3l diesel. And a lot of troubles! A LOT! The central display behind the wheel left me after 2 Years (1400euro in service all the front panel, but I did it by myself buying a new sharp display (120usd on net)... The shaft (specifically it has a ball bearing that collapses in 2-3 years (another over 1000 euro part because You have to replace all the shaft) but I found someone to fix it by cutting replacing ball bearing and welding back the shaft)... The heating fan under the inner torpedo... the central rear brake light (even with LED), AND AT THE END THE DISTRIBUTION CHAIN (in the middle of a trip on a highway, no more than 80kmph) that fckd up all the engine! I was to THEM SERVICE a week before and they said "chain has no more than 30% usage"...
While german cars are nice, I will never buy one again because they are designed to fail and extremely expensive to repair. There is a reason why a $50k german car loses more than half its value in just 2-4 years.
Those are some really slick departures from the water holes, some of them could be trouble for anything to climb when they are polished and smooth like that. Tough to get the timing right but those first runs looked inconsistent with the throttle on the touareg. Those bigger tires help the H2, but the timing and smooth throttle help tons.
@SUSLICK also touareg has a very very stiff chasis ..stiffer than most sedans..if i remember 45 Hz..i think thats the measuring unit for some sort of chasis stiffness test.
@a2js2 We decided that Touareg goes first into the ice hole, cause we did not know how deep that hole is. It was easir to pull out Toureg by H2 than vice versa
It is not about who wins. All these trucks are capable, the difference is in the tires. having a 4x4 won't help much is you don't have the right tires. All these tires they have on their trucks are road tires.
yea but the hummer has eaton e lockers from facory front and rear. that vw limited slip aint gonna cut it when shit hits the fan even if u got super swampers

Chris, I guess it also depends on the suspension options you go with. I had an H2 luxury edition with air ride but now I have a Cayenne S without the air suspension. My H2 rode way smoother than the Cayenne on any type of terrain. But you're right, the H2 is better off road for sure. Especially if you upgrade the factory BFG's.
@Johandyman There is no problem if the engine is running. Pressure of exhaust does not allow the water to come in to it. You should never stop the engine if the exhaust is below the water line. And if you do so, never start the engine again. Get your car to servise for repair first.
The Touareg is 4wd just like the hummer, which i believe has the same torque distribution as you claimed the Touareg has, untill you lock the center diff. And both hummer and the VW have locking center and rear differentials.
@Claudioman2009 the rear diff lock wasnt engaged the rear right tire was spinning with the front at the same speed the only true 4X4's are vehicles equipped with diff locks in the front and back turning all wheels at the same time other wise its the LSD will put power to the wheels that have traction
I used own both of these fine suv's when it comes to off road, you can't compare the vw to H2! H2 uses off road tires and vw uses street tires! Comfort vw hands down! Power H2! Good video!
@l337pwnage Actually sometimes traction control will cause you to struggle in terrain like this. when it starts sensing wheel spin it will start applying the brakes to the tire that is spinning in mud all your tires will start spinning therefore slowing you down and getting you stuck. i think with a little more speed and the traction control off in the VW this would be cake for it
I think mud tires will help for sure, but there are no lock on rear diff that can be a problem, the year of this toureg is 3rd Gen Haldex, only ABS and computer etc to simulate the locking job....
ahh thats what you mean. ok. So your saying the engine will work just fine if its totally submerged aslong as its got air from a snorkel? What will stop water flooding the engine through the exhaust though?
best part is at 1:50 because I like the fact that he could avoid the water but he went right in it! :D when I was young I used to do the same with my bicycle
Everybody saw the mistakes the VW driver made and also the tire issue... but why does the clip now show the Hummer going through the same mud areas where the Tuareg gets stuck in? The Hummer with the road tires will also get stuck in those areas... all and all, the Hummer is a far better offroader than the Tuareg and that i have seen from experience, but it would have been fun to see a more accurate comparison between the two!
Full credit to the VW drivers, doing their best to not get out of the ditch. Why didn't the Hummer stop and loose all momentum before climbing out of the hole?
maybe the audis are, but the touareg has a low range gearbox, which im not sure was even used here, and manually licking diffs. thats not for shopping or snow (maybe 50cm deep snow yes)
Did not try the new toaureg offroading yet, but I would expect more or less the same offroad capabilities. There are face design changes, more efficient engines but the rest should be same.
When the revs are kept up there are so many fumes coming out the exhaust that the water cant get it. The water wasnt deep enough. over 500mm starts to become a problem
Three things to Touareg driver: 1.Get a proper off-road tires 2.Learn how high your air intake is 3.Get some off-road experience Touareg, because of its drive-train layout, is far more capable than most off roaders of its class.
Well obviously the perssure from the exhaust. However for more info you can read online, I am not a big specialist, but I knw diesel is a self contained engine and can do that. There is no spark plugs or so electrical crap. You can go and wash or submerge it and there will be problem.
it was designed and engineered with biggest priority being onroad performance and comfort since VW did not expect more then 0.01%of people to actually use it off road.Yet they installed air suspension with off road clearance settings, yes not as high as real off road cars but a goof 8cm more then in standard mode. The put a LOW range gearbox in, thats pretty off roady dont you think? The traction control has an off road setting. For the road with good offroad capability given its target market.
While those H2 tires are better than the low profiles on the VW, they aren't exactly mud tires either, lol. Just mild all terrains. They do have the advantage of a nice tall sidewall so they can conform to the terrain better, tho. One thing surprised me, I thought H2s had a 4 wheel traction control system. It either was turned off or it is not nearly as active/aggressive as the VW system. The H2 seemed to have a lot of uneven wheel spin.
diesel can work under water if it only can suck air. That is why if you have noticed those off road vehicles have a big suction pipe way highabove the cabin. The case here is not like that, but still the engine was out and the air sucktion was out of the water
Hummer had MT Tires. Touareg had Street Tires. Imagine how good the Touareg would be, with good traction tires.

Very nice video! I've never seen a Touareg off-roading before and it did exceptionally well even with the road tires!
so.. none of them had proper set of tires on,
only the hummer has something to do with offroading.
what is the point?
Nagy Andras exactly what I just wanted to say
Nagy Andras
They could be driving them on the street. Never taking them out to play. Granted, they aren't exactly ready for the off road stuff. But it looks like they're having fun.
it looks like they are suffering.
don't have to go to extremes, just a set of proper tires.
+Nagy Andras the point is to have fun, something you clearly dont understand
Maybe to see what the cars can do on normal road tyres, rather than cheat to give them more capability?
nice video! neither vehicle had tires for mudding but the Hummer is clearly in a class by itself.
even with street tires Tuareg is pretty good
Even with road tires, that's impressive. I drive a Touareg and it will never change.
Seriously who in their right mind would take their car off road with street tires.

Great video, but did you have the diferencial locked on the touareg when it got stuck in the mud?
sorry guys, but what is a tuareg doing in an off-road course?
Chris, I guess it also depends on the suspension options you go with. I had an H2 luxury edition with air ride but now I have a Cayenne S without the air suspension. My H2 rode way smoother than the Cayenne on any type of terrain. But you're right, the H2 is better off road for sure. Especially if you upgrade the factory BFG's.
Touareg and Audi are suv cars for street, but Hummer is for off road drive. Touareg and Audi q3 are just luxury street drive cars (suv).
Nah, they just needed offroad tires and a driver that isn't a dumbass.
@Johandyman There is no problem if the engine is running. Pressure of exhaust does not allow the water to come in to it. You should never stop the engine if the exhaust is below the water line. And if you do so, never start the engine again. Get your car to servise for repair first.
Off road tires need here and then the Touareg has been given a head start Hammer
Well the thing about differentials is that they allow torque to flow down the path of least resistance, meaning that the torque distribution varies.
Impressive for highway terrain tires

what's next, an Audi RS7 off roading? Hey, it's got Quattro...
They did some offroad testing with the Nissan GTR.
The Touareg is 4wd just like the hummer, which i believe has the same torque distribution as you claimed the Touareg has, untill you lock the center diff. And both hummer and the VW have locking center and rear differentials.

I used own both of these fine suv's when it comes to off road, you can't compare the vw to H2! H2 uses off road tires and vw uses street tires! Comfort vw hands down! Power H2! Good video!
Toureg was not built to outperform a H2 off-road.
Great video! However i keep wondering, would the car not stall since the exhaust is so much under water?
all hummers are jokes accept for the H1 and the Mercedes unimog also rocks both of these cars
A land rover range rover would beat these lumps of sh@t
only the ones with difflock
EinkOLED Perhaps as long as they don't break down and have to be towed to a shop.

No, the Hummer has a unique chassis which only it uses. It was just built at the same place the Tahoe was.
Did you find any other cars that could be worse to do off-road?
@gadgetguy4000 that hummer has 3 4wd options, two of them is all wheels locked.

@xregizorx No, It's Czech Republic - Central Europe next to Germany
I have a question. Did waster come in the car with the touareg?
How does that stop an engine from sucking up water???
WHy didnt ya bring an H3 with you instead instead of dragging around a toureg as a trailor?
@TomasNovy1975 What were the touareg tire pressures set to?
Absolutely! Driving off road is way more fun with the right equipment :)
when did u steel it?
@andrei0892 whats not fair dude? the tittle is "H2 & Touareg" not "H2 VS Touareg"
looks like that touareg's tyres have worn out or it doesnt not have air suspension
@TomasNovy1975 its actually makes this weird thing called steam... it turns H2O from a liquid state into a gas state.
You sure you changed 4*4 LOW or third choice style with tourage2?
@georgialions just how many dakar races has a hummer won exactly ? 0.000 ?
