  • In its days of glory, it used to rival the likes of the Alliance, Starehe Boys and Mangu as a prestigious national school famed for academic excellence. But today, Garbatula High school in Isiolo County is a miserable education outpost that only attracts a handful of students largely drawn from neighbouring villages. So drastic have fortunes changed for the school that residents now regard it as a waste of the very land it occupies! They want it shut down and the land put to better use. Michael Njenga has returned from Isiolo with the following report.

A clear case of gross mismanagement. Instead of thinking of ways to bring back this school to its former glory, these fats cats are thinking of turning it into a university. If you cannot manage a school, how can you manage a university. Leaders in the county, the government need to come together and rebuild Garba Tula cos if we let it go down, then it will be Lenana or Nairobi sch next. We need more schools.

Blame the management and the ministry of education. Nothing is ever done to improve on the infrastructure that was set up nearly 80 years ago by the colonial. Just like the railway these institutions are left to decay and then we cry when its too late. I once visited Nairobi School and apart from the old building, nothing else has changed over the years, the management cares less.

talking about the likes of Adnan Keynan is useless when they can continue to pass through the same place that gave them their jobs and NEVER even blink. I think this story reminds me of the story of the rich man (Kenya Govt) and Lazarus (Garbatula). The rich man was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day while Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table..such is the case in Garbatula...selah!
