I quit playing 40k. Been reading lore. Will always paint my Orks but am sooooo done with trying to keep up with 40k rules.
Imperial Guard waited almost 8 years for their Codex in 9th, it lasted for 3 months.
I'm not giving GW any money, ever again.

It was the arrogance and insulting response to the Femstodies that disgusted me. I didn't care if they put females in the Custodies I cared about the sloppy, lazy, then arrogant and childish response to people saying "that does not fit the lore" I would have been fine if they had done any of the things North and Amber king listed. On the other side I kept saying "you have the Sisters of Battle and even more you have the sisters of Silence, why not flesh out and advance their lore more, there is quite a bit of sisters of battle lore, but Sisters of Silence not so much. I did not see why they were wasting peoples time with Female custodies with no lore, when they could work with sisters of Silence. I personally LOVE the sisters of Battle, they are my second favorite after the Astra Militarum, I am not nearly as obsessed with the Space Marines as I am with the Cadian Troops, Kreig, the Catashan Jungle fighters, Elysian Drop Troops, Etc. The mainly human grunts on the field. Space Marines are awesome, dont get me wrong, I just really enjoy other aspects more.
It's progressive man haters. We all know they will NEVER make 'Misters of Battle' or 'Misters of Silence'....
Honestly, people need to study evolutionary theory more. Men are the vanguard of the species. We go out, take the risks, discover and build new spaces. And then women and soy boys invade once these spaces have been 'secured'. As much as I try and 'gatekeep' I have no doubt that the company will kill itself before admitting it's wrong. Hence the 'go woke, go broke' phrase.
It was all DEI bullsh*t and GW knows it, otherwise there'd be a model. They make models, models make them money. Establishing a female element to a faction and not capitalising on it with a model is suspect, on GWs part.
I got into Leagues of Votann because of what I *can* do with them, not because of what they are. GW did a lazy hack of a job with them. But I'm neither enthralled to their vision of space dwarves lore, nor beholden to use their models as I print and digitally kitbash my stuff. Therefore my Leagues are actual space dwarves, with tons of viking themes, gravbikes, tanks and land trains. What I take from GW's vision of them is their rampant corporatism, but that's basically it.
I feel like GW missed a trick in not giving them a "runes" based language inspired by "semiotic Standard" from Alien.

The company should rename itself "Books and Models Workshop", because that's their business plan. It speaks volumes that two of their most popular games (Horus Heresy and The Old World) are just reissues of older versions of the current flagship games.
And they liscence thier IP out too. Video games, 2 action figure lines and comic books

if crawl came back saying that he had the final steps saved of the SM program. which would be primaris, this would have been a good way to range refresh SM. the primaris was what SM were always supposed to be. but do to the horus heresy it was not finished before the emp died. and guiliman coming back awoke crawl
Leagues of Votann feel like another companies attempt to do 40k Space Dwarfs but they just feel generic. The fact that they don't have any of that 3rd to 5th ed super grimdark black and white artwork that the more established armies can still fall back on hurts them as well. I think the core idea of them being like cogs in giant machines controlled by AI that use them to perpetuate their own survival is great but not well expressed. In a way they're kinda like the Tyranids only more machine than biological in nature. They travel the void looking for planets to strip mine for resources to keep their ships, and therefore themselves going for another generation.
Great show North, I just listened to Amber kings Inquisitor Eisenhorn video last night and I really enjoyed it. I really enjoy the discussion videos you do with Macca, the one with black lodge games was great and this one was as well! Hobby nightmares and the rants are great too, but these are a nice change of pace! Well, done sir and thanks to Amber King for his conversation as well!
Just saying there’s been multiple retcons is a lazy cop out. Every setting that is going though the world building stage will go though alterations however when something becomes established alterations happen allot less. Warhammers fundamental lore has stayed quite consistent, it’s intellectually dishonest to justify a retcon of fundamental lore because some fluff was changed.
Yes people could argue about using the daughters of noble houses however it wouldn’t be a good argument because the problem with that is doing that would kill off those noble houses as how would they replenish the next generation when the daughters are drying at a high rate.
It doesn’t matter how much more refined the process of making a custodian is to a space marine, the process still takes an immense toll on the body and the survival rate is even lower than a space marine. Saying it would be easy is silly, because even males that are more physiologically capable hardly survive. There is nothing fundamentally in the lore that allows for them to exist as GW have basically written themselves into a corner, I have yet to see a good argument that justifies their existence.
Despite the lore referring to custodes as a brotherhood and them explicitly being all male, there isn’t as hard of a barrier to their creation as the astartes, like with the gene seed only being compatible with male physiology however if the process of making a female custodian was possible, was easy and had no negative effect on the decline of aspirants why didn’t they exist? Especially when the emperor was around to personally over see it, and why didn’t he want them? This is the issue, if all these arguments are plausible and valid why wasn’t they good enough then, I think they’re just excuses to justify bad writing. Yet they don’t make up for anything because they’re just as bad as the writing.
I totally agree. There is a difference between 'retcons', 'plot growth/development', and 'minor fixes to illogical things and inconsistencies'.
Realistically, I think there could be a really cool case for them taking female aspirants. And then using their 'techno arcana' to basically convert them into males, and then to elevate them into Custodes. It might be a bit tasteless for some. But sci-fi has always been playing around with 'transhumanism'. And I think converting a female into a male is actually pretty ground breaking sci-fi. It also is consistent with real life evolution and biology. We already know if you androgenise a female, they literally develop male characteristics. And vice versa for male to female 'conversions'. Why not go take the full step, and do a full 'conversion'.

IMO because of the success of Space Marine 2, warhammer has continued their decades long, mostly slow, push to mainstream acceptance xD
In my opinion, a mess. I feel 40k lost its feel when they got rid of templates, armour/pen profiles, and the “everything can would everything” rule. They’ve clearly made it more accessible to a younger audience and sigmarised it, and in doing so, it’s not grimdark anymore. I often look back on being 10 years old and 40k was a dark and mysterious game and the artwork was horrifying.
I love Amber King, his videos really bring the characters to life. Great stuff North!

It's just a technique popularized by spiffing Brit to boost engagement. The use of RUclips premieres features to have the video announcement pop up more frequently to people who are interested.
That's the whole point...so that people know it's coming and watch it the moment it comes out. It's proper annoying when someone goes live without warning
The Uriel Ventris books were great! They and the original Space Marine game got me to actually reqlly like the Ultramarines (not an easy feat)
