It's true that France has a flag with vertical, not horizontal bars on it. But also he couldn't work out that mela(tonin) = black, rube(llum) = red, chrys(anthemum) = gold which would have made him think of either his own country or maybe Belgium.
anselman I think they had a clash of egos coz at 2130 he suggested 'Holbein' but let her override with 'Durer' instead, he was right, so the doubt over 'Vermeer' may have stemmed from that. She seemed pissed off n left him hanging at 2200, not cool! She's the weakest on the team so I get where he's coming from.
I had the same hesitation over Durer and Holbein. Perfectly understandable, but I thought the Vermeer was recognizable (and was her compatriot!). Don't underestimate her.
Leo and Bresson were merely playing the long game and it was all a highly calculated but subtle way of drawing each other into their web of seduction, unaware that the other already felt the same way. Rumour has it that Bresson's steely demeanor melted into uncontrollable passion at the point of the handshake at the end and she finally cracked falling into Leo's waiting open arms just after the end credits. Or I may be reading too much into it.
Leo is really good all-round, great performance. They did get lucky though with the India questions, as well as the starter about Armenia to which the answer was '-stan'.
I'm really looking forward to the semis and quarter finals this time round. Some cracking teams have got through so far, and the elimination matches should be a beauty.
I quite liked Blackett, so too bad that his side couldn't get anything going against Leo and company. Thus far this season has been dominated by solid teams led by brilliant captains. I can't say Leo has been my favorite of this bunch, but his performance in this episode was stellar for sure.
I think it's more that nobody cares. The Czechs have been trying to change their international English name from the Czech Republic to Czechia for years and they're making no headway. Against this backdrop it's amazing that 'Cote d'Ivoire' and 'Myanmar' have become as prevalent as they are.
It happens a lot and you could definitely find more unfair cases, here Paxman did technically say Bahamas after the bell (or the light indicator which is a bit faster than the buzzer sound).
S48 LOSER’S TABLE Thanks to their late showing on African geography, York crack triple digits and in doing so, take hold of the last wild card spot. But with seven more first round matches to go, it would take a miracle for their score to hold up. With this result, the spies-in-training of SOAS are officially eliminated. 175 Emmanuel - Cambridge 150 Exeter 150 Hertford - Oxford 105 York ----------------- 90 SOAS 75 Pembroke - Oxford 55 Strathclyde
I am surprised that nobody commented about Leo from Berlin, Germany not getting the right answer about Germany's flag. I just scanned the comments to I may have missed it -:)
Nice to see an Oxford college on here for a change, and great to actually see one of them from Britain. As if they don't have enough advantages, questions seem to be made for them. An Indian contestant, there are two starter questions about India and three questions on Hindu festivals. Go figure.
Was Leo reading from a TelePrompTer? Pisharody, you’re from India, period. No need for too much information on where you grew up etc Palazzo, I don’t know where I’m from, so I’ll be from a London, North Yorkshire and the Shetlands....St Ed’s , you need to substitute Bresson before the next round. She spends her time trying to looking intelligent and intense....
Bresson was 'pretty' useless. Not cool to leave Leo the Lion hanging at 22:00, considering he had to overcompensate for her underwhelming contribution :/
She didn't leave him hanging. She was turning to the screen and didn't see him. Strange how you find fault with all the attractive female contestants. i'm sure it's just coincidence...
aquapony I find fault with many contestants, both male and female, who fail their teams, going back a few seasons, across the board. That u find her attractive is laughable, hence my quotes Lol She high-fived him earlier so it DOES look like she's ignoring him this time by turning to the screen. Hope she loses the attitude and gains a few starters instead!
nothing more satisfying than hearing Paxman read out video game titles
leo is a SMART BOI
o mlk eh liso
Forgetting the direction of horizontal lines and he's from Germany, that hiccup was hilarious
Well he more than made up for that during the rest of the game, although I got really confused when he said France
Right, I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in the competition
It's true that France has a flag with vertical, not horizontal bars on it. But also he couldn't work out that mela(tonin) = black, rube(llum) = red, chrys(anthemum) = gold which would have made him think of either his own country or maybe Belgium.
Captain should not have doubted the Netherlands lass's recognition of Vermeer. Glad she stuck to her guns!

@@Sandra27HK Fry was the weakest. At least she knows about British comedy.

The gentleman reading medicine has quite some reading still to do.
I know it is kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to watch newly released tv shows online?
Leo gives off serial killer vibes but damn he's good. Can't wait for Leo vs Golfinos.
Jack Whitehall got smarter

21:59 ouchh
Kenneth Kway damn that was cringe
lololololol

blackett is now my history teacher if you wanted an update on his life
Leo's mugging his mates off - needs to cut it out if he wants to drag his chops to the final
john hammond
One-man teams never make it to the final. I feel sorry for the guy ... all that effort.
Not sure if teams this year are very strong or their opponents just very weak.
ElitexSnipax
More like the question-setters got lazy n failed to assess the S&W of each team?
so weird to see questions about videogames among such obscure questions about medieval history and physics..
Swaziland recently changed its name to eSwatini, I wonder if this episode was shot before that.
It definitely was, some time around February.
Also, Swaziland is the accepted English translation. Like we say "Germany" instead of "Deutschland".

Bresson is stunning. Leo’s breadth of knowledge is perhaps more stunning.
She's very cute, indeed.
Why did Bate lose 5 points for the wrong answer to the "AU" question? Paxman had finished the question, to my hearing.
It happens a lot and you could definitely find more unfair cases, here Paxman did technically say Bahamas after the bell (or the light indicator which is a bit faster than the buzzer sound).
that goodbye format always cracks me up

At least i gotta some Knowledges 🇬🇧♥️
Thanks for sharing!
I only got one wrong.....sorry i meant right.
Niels, got to read more twilight mate :p
Leo is very strong.
Leo smart as hell
Fry looks quite a bit like the actress Emma Stone.
Spell the first name and surname of the author of Twilight! What a dumb question.
Troy Alexander
... but fun, sth UC is sorely lacking!
Oh boy you have no idea how much more enriched my life is now that I know there's no A in Stephnie Meyer's name
Joseph
Its StephEnie.
Any question that can trip up 8 UCers and is not about dead bloodthirsty royals or has 'B.C.' in it, is brilliant in my book.
Loved the high five.
I went to school with Fry
Can't recall seeing an Indian on UC... Pisharody was very impressive. Luckily, some India related questions came in handy for him
Nice to see an Oxford college on here for a change, and great to actually see one of them from Britain. As if they don't have enough advantages, questions seem to be made for them. An Indian contestant, there are two starter questions about India and three questions on Hindu festivals. Go figure.
Bring back Bamber!
Leo needs a good kickin
Jesus Christ, are you all thinking what I'm thinking
Udin Udin what were you thinking?
kid How much of a complete cutie pie Bresson is
Thank God the answer is not "Michael Howard should be Prime Minister".

H20 wardder ? no H20 water and I'll have to take 5 points off you for having a silly accent.

OH NO I didn't see that the first time. That's uncomfortable to watch...
Sandroid must have seen an edited version of the programme!
Hilary Kirkby
Why? In your version did she get even ONE of the THIRTEEN starters racked up by the other three leading to a crushing victory? Lol
She didn't leave him hanging. She was turning to the screen and didn't see him. Strange how you find fault with all the attractive female contestants. i'm sure it's just coincidence...
