This guy glosses over the root cause of this movement of people: the U.S. government's meddling in the economies and elections and governments of the countries they are fleeing. We have supported dictators, helped engineer coups, and even acted to take down democratically elected leaders, if we didn't approve of their politics or their laws regarding American companies and local labor. We have caused instability throughout Latin America, and the people suffering from that instability -- collapsed economies and unemployment, cartel rule, gang violence, murders and kidnapping -- want out! Who but the meddlers should take them in?

So, is the answer to just leave our doors unlocked so anyone can come in anytime? Would you do that in your house? This is where we are, however we got here. The question is, how to move forward from here. Your rhetoric isn't thoughtful, it isn't mindful and it isn't helpful. What can YOU do to help?

Folks like to cast the US as the villain, but that's just simplistic. We've stopped meddling in South and Central America decades ago. American drug users do drive a lot of criminal activity, but the cartels are international businesses. They supply drugs all over the world.
A lot of the nations like Mexico are corrupt in and of themselves. Those gov'ts need to address their internal problems.

@@daveburrows9876 I do not say to have open borders. But we do owe these folks something. Every one of us is better off financially because of reprehensible government actions in the past -- cheaper produce, access to cheap resources, etc. What we do about the debt we owe needs to be out in the open, discussed and debated. Not everyone who wants to come here is in trouble because of our actions in the past. And many are skilled workers who are needed in U.S. shops and factories and farms. But just complaining about the flood of immigrants doesn't address the problem. I don't have any good ideas about how to deal with the border because there are too many easy ways to cross. And the wall is easy to get over!

It doesn't matter if they come in legally now because we're only supposed to let 650,000 people in a year. So even if they come in legally right now, technically they're being led into the country illegally. You're not supposed to surpass the 650,000 immigrants. We left 17 and 3/4 years of immigrants in this country at 650,000 per year. Did you all think about that. We would have to shut the border down 100% and not let one person not one to catch up to the laws that are on the current books as we speak. Not one person for almost 18 years.

"You don't speed, because you will get pulled over and get a ticket..."
A great analogy, but not in the way Chief Owens would probably like. I immediately think of a stretch of road near my house that I like to call "Fury Road"; dangerous, overcrowded, and everyone speeds - EVERY ONE. Doing the speed limit is the exception, even if you are the slowest person on the road. Do people get pulled over? Occasionally. Randomly. There are just too many people on the road, going too fast, all the time. The road is an artery connecting two communities over a bridge, people work on one side and live on the other. People regularly break multiple traffic laws, including speeding and improper lane changes, as a matter of course. People get pulled over. They get fined. Some even lose their license. Everyone still speeds, everyday.
You could double or triple the number of cops on that road, and it wouldn't make people slow down that much. It would make people feel like they are living in a police state. Double the number of US Border Patrol, and you'll still have people trying to get into the country. You fix the problem, instead of "policing the problem".

Tell me you don't know how immigration works? Congress is responsible to change the laws. Employers need to be fined. You can do your part. Grow your own food. Stop conveniently reaching into a bin at the supermarket for food. An immigrant got that food there. Process your own meats. (90% of the people working in meat processing plants are immigrants). Stop going to restaurants who either own or hire them. Check any restaurant kitchen, you'll find immigrants. If you or your friends hire them for yardwork, construction jobs, house cleaning or childcare to save money, tell them to stop it. Cut off the problem at the source. Relatively easy, ya think.
Look up the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Reading is fundamental.

Give a little more effort to your thought. Shutting down the border would be catastrophic to our country, USA. The border is part of our food distribution system and other goods.

@@StanH1966you do realize that will not change 1 thing? While it sounds great, it's not the answer. Our country would collapse, farmers would lose their farms, and seniors would not be able to keep up with the hard labor. Do you grow all you eat? Grains? Make your clothes? Landscaping? Very few American kids want to do hard labor no matter how well their paid. The issue that you speak of is a problem on both ends. Migrants will work for less because it is better than the alternative. American kids are not willing to. American kids mk those jobs available because they would rather work an easy job for less pay.
It's the same issue divided by privilege and race. Where did we Americans get our lands from? We stole it, and we divided our country again by race and privilege. I wonder if you were born in a country where you didn't have food, your daughters and wife were used, and life was unbearable if you would feel the same. You might be privileged to have been born here, but many are not. That doesn't
mean they shouldn't want a better life and go after it. Things are not so easily solved as you suggest. How do we then find a way to solve the problems if we think we are better than them and they deserve less because of circumstances beyond their control?
