I always say lipbalm, because I didn't know that chapstick was a brand.
But in germany it's the same phenomenon, because here everybody calls a lipbalm "Labello".

I was going to try Laneige or Nuxe but opted for Cerave ointment as a daily night treatment, because it’s very slippery so it doesn’t work well with makeup, but it has ceramides which help to repair the skin barrier, and is fragrance-free and free of other common known irritants. It does have petrolatum with which I’m ok because I have super dry, constantly peeling and cracking and therefore bleeding-prone lips year-round so I need a good occlusive barrier. Cerave has worked really well because my lips stay smooth during the day, and the product isn’t expensive at all. During the day, I just use any SPF lip balm that’s fragrance free.

Petroleum is actually not harmful, so that's a great find!

      Trick you might enjoy:
You can use Kbeauty rice ceramide toner on your clean lips. THEN go over it with a marine hyaluronic toner, THEN try the LaNeige mask.
When that dries down, I put a dollop of CeraVe as I rub it into my hands. It sounds like a lot going on, but it does a nice job of carrying the products across the lip, when I don’t go whole hog like that, I also do the Nuxe pot formula balm over the toners, AFTER I spray my face with some pre-bedtime rose water.
I love the scent of spraying my face before bed…
The general rule is that hyaluronic acid *needs to carry moisture across the barrier* or it will end up drying you out, so you need an occlusive oil or butter over it.
This is a lot to admit, but I’m obsessed about my lips being a feature in my face that I want to pass through menopause for me with the least erosion of volume

Finally someone giving the Nuxe one the credit it deserves... for the last two years its the only thing I've been using (two jars actually, because one jar lasts me a year) and I love it! Now that the second jar is finished I decided to go for the Laneige one because of all the hype, and yes, its good, but it doesn't reach the Nuxe one!! And also here in Greece the Nuxe one is not that expensive (probably because its a European product), actually the Laneige one is more expensive (both as per ounce and as a total of course), so I regret buying it... So thank you for this video, it will help others make the right choice!! 😉

I love the laneige mask. I buy mine from Korea instead of Sephora because i can get it for 10$. I also have the drunk elephant lippe balm which I find moisturizing and the la Roche posay cicaplast which supposedly heals your lip barrier. I live in Canada and my lips haven’t been chapped for the first time in my life because of these products. However, I couldn’t tell you which one of the 3 is exactly responsible for making this happen.

Your bangs and brows look great! I’m super interested in lanolips. I use their hand creams, but I’ve never tried the lip balm for some reason. Laneige's lip sleeping mask has been my overnight lip therapy for more than a year now, it softens my lips like nothing else. For the day, I like using handcrafted lip balms by Matra (an indigenous organic brand) - top 3 ingredients are Castor oil, Caprylic/capric triglyceride (emollient, antioxidant), and Beeswax, followed by Shea butter and Almond oil (and a bunch of other nourishing organic ingredients). I swear by it!
Currently I'm using Neutrogena's Norwegian formula lip balm - it seems decent, weightless and transparent with no shine. I think it makes for a good lip balm to use under lipsticks.
Great video Amanda! You give such in depth and educated reviews. Love them!

I never had any issue with lip products before, whether it is cheap lip balm or more expensive ones. Love your videos, Amanda! 💖 My criteria for something I use as much as lip balm is very high. At the top of the list are preferably no animal products/bi-products (essentially vegan); organic ingredients; and the least synthetic chemicals possible (short ingredients lists for the win 🙌🏽). Unfortunately none of these lip balms meet these parameters, and for some time I struggled to find a lip balm that did that was worth seeking out. Finally a couple of years ago I found it: Crazy Rumors, the best lip balm ever 😍🙏🏽 I am not affiliated with or sponsored by them in any way; I just really LOVE their products and feel they are the best on the market, at any price point (yes, including luxury products -these are better than Nuxe and Laneige and even La Mere’s lip balm, which I used to use). I highly encourage you to try them out 🙂 Their formula is primarily shea butter-based, too, which you mentioned you liked and is really amazing on the skin. Let me know what you think if you get a chance to try them out! Happy Holidays! 🎄❄️💫

We do have a range of them which are all natural, organic, and handmade (mostly based on Ayurvedic recipes so oils and seed butters predominate). Kama Ayurveda, Forest Essentials, ENN Closet, Juicy Chemistry, Matra are a few good ones to choose from 😊 Unfortunately most brands here do not ship internationally 😞

I'm excited about this video. I just purchased the Laneige Lip Mask last week and OMG!!!!!! I thought I loved the Bite Agave mask, but the Laneige one blew me out of the water! I have been using the Ordinary 7% Glycolic Acid toner on my face at night and the first few nights I used it, it kind of "migrated" onto my lips when I was sleeping and after a couple of nights I woke up with my top lip split open and VERY chapped. I went to Sephora and got the Laneige lip mask, used it ONE night and the next morning my lip wasn't split open anymore. I was so shocked that my beloved Agave Mask or Lanolips couldn't "handle the job". I do LOVE Lanolips, I have the 101 ointment and all of their tinted colors, but the Laneige lip mask is going to be my go to nighttime lip product ❤ Anyway, I hope you have a WONDERFUL Christmas/Holiday. I have really dry lips and have tried probably dozens of lip balms including most of the ones you reviewed, and theirs has been my HG for years. Really affordable, good formula, variety of seasonal flavors, woman-owned. I recently tried the Laneige one but returned it because it felt super similar but way more expensive. The only thing I don't like is that they don't have any SPF balms, though I guess SPF testing is probably expensive for a small business?

I used up the Nuxe reve de miel and I didn't quite enjoy it. It left yucky waxy residue to my bedside table water glass (I know, tragic😳), but had troubles using it up quickly enough within the recommended opening time. Took 10 months to use up as a night lip mask. I started to use the Klavuu lip sleeping pack, and that I like much more than the Nuxe. It has glidy shiny texture and that vanishes from the lips by the time I drink water in the morning. It leaves the lips soft and it is much more affordable than the Laneige.
I buy from Yesstyle, and there the price difference is quite minimal, but I prefer the shorter ingredient list of the Klavuu, because I'm a skincare nerd😉 I'd love to find an option without fragrance or essential oils that still has the lux feel. Plain petroleum jelly just won't have the right vibe for me even though dermatologists recommend those🙄 I have heard good things from the Drunk elephant lippe balm, but that's expensive!!

I love the Nuxe and the Laneige, but they are less convenient than a chapstick or other balm in a bullet form when tossed in a purse. Chapstick isn't the greatest, but it's cheap and you can use it to help out a dry patch on hands and nails in a pinch. I've even used it to help a zipper that isn't zipping smoothly. I loved the Bite Beauty balm until it was reformulated. It's too soft now.

i tried the nuxe one and it’s the only lip balm where once it comes off throughout the day my lips still feel super moisturized, it does have a super waxy feeling some people may not like but the effect on my lips is super worth it and i don’t mind , i definitely recommend nuxe

I’ve been using the laneige lip sleeping mask for a couple of months now and I’ve actually noticed that if I sleep for longer, the balm ends up absorbing quite well into the lips, where if I only get a couple hours of sleep, I definitely still notice it on the lips. You mentioned how there is something to be said for both lip balms that stay on top and ones that sink in, and I feel like the laneige might be like a sort of slow absorber? Both to protect through the night but also to nourish.
This is completely based on my observations from using the lip mask, but I personally have loved it a lot and it’s been keeping my lips soft and hydrated this winter ^^ sorry for the essay and thanks for making such a thorough comparison!

That actually make a lot of sense. Most of Korean facial sleeping mask actually works like this, slowly absorbs into the skin as we sleep. Since the laneige is labelled sleeping mask, maybe this is actually how it works! I love it too 😊

Also a lot of people find vitamin E actually irritating for their skin, just so you know, and the same goes for castor oil... it is not the most ideal oil for lips and can be too heavy and irritate and dry your lips out. It's just widely used as a cheap and thick oil - but because a lot of companies stick it into their products, doesn't actually mean that it's super good.

Lanolin is not actually used as a protectant. It's a popular ingredient in skincare and hair care products because it has a really pleasant texture, it's creamy and smooth and feels nice. It's actually quite bad for your skin though. Lanolin is hydrophilic and soaks up nearby sources of moisture, so it tends to cause chapped skin. I'd shy away from using any lip balms that contain lanolin because although they have that nice texture, they usually result in dry cracked lips.

Ok so this is a long comment but i just wanted to really express the multiple ways I love the following product I recommend.
So I have the perfect lip mask (that I also use as a balm) that is affordable and effective plus I think it's basically a dupe for the Nuxe lip balm, it's a K-beauty product- Aritaum Ginger Sugar Overnight Lip Mask. The ginger sounds off-putting to some but honestly after a couple nights I didn't even notice it anymore and even forget it has ginger until I see the label when I tell someone about it. This has medically improved my lips, cosmetically improved my lips and it has a huge recommendation from a major lip expert.
I heard about it but an article where Vlada Haggerty was interviewed. She's the OG person who started the lip art on Instagram and Kylie Jenner knocked off/copycat Vlada's logo/art, or she had a collection with Smashbox and was the head of the lip products for Smashbox for a couple years. So that's all to say this woman knows her lip products and she was asked what she uses to take care of her lips and she mentioned Laneige and the Aritaum. Well I instantly wanted those products but the Laneige was more money than I wanted to spend for another lip product to disappoint me so when I saw the Aritaum on Amazon (also prime shipping) I hit "buy now" and never looked back.
I would say it's viscosity is between the Lanolips and the Nuxe according to your description and the look of it in your video. So the medical part- I struggled for 3 years with severe cracking in the corner of my lips that looks like angular chelitis but was actually irritation from toothpaste (saw a doctor and dermatologist for this) on top of that I have dry skin and Psoriasis so my skin goes through a lot. The first time I used it was before bed and when I woke up in the morning the corner of my lip cracks (they scab, bleed, and very painful to talk, eat, drink) were 75% healed and my lips were soft and plump!!!! So I continued to use it and my Rx toothpaste and was fine for 2 1/2 years but then I got a sample of the Bite lip mask which I always wanted to try which was a bad idea because within 12 hours the corners of my lips were starting to act up and were dry so back to the Aritaum I went but then I got a Lanolips in a goodie bag so of course I tried it and my lips were back to dry and I could see the corner of my lips weren't looking good so back to the Aritaum.
I love this stuff so much I have one in my nightstand, bathroom, makeup desk, living room, purse, my husbands car and my car because I never want to be without it.
A little goes a long way and so you can apply it thicker before bed and wake up to visibly plumper lips that look and feel hydrated or just tap a little on like you would with a lipstick for a blotted effect. I'll also just run it over my lips over and just outside my lip line and over again for about 30 seconds and then blot with tissue before I do my makeup so it's really penetrated into my lips and plumping everything up, people tend to forget about the lip line area which is one of the first areas safer your hands to get fine lines and show your age (or even age you older than you are); anytime I have some on my fingers after applying to my lips I'll rub it into my cuticles and dry patches on my hands.
One container lasted me 13 months in my nightstand. Also I like to de-pot some in a smaller little sample container (like from Sephora/Ulta) to use so I don't contaminate the container.
It's usually priced between $9-14 on Amazon for some reason but that's still way now affordable than the Laneige and Nuxe plus you can also find it on YesStyle. I haven't tried their actual lip balm in the tube (I'm happy with the lip mask) or their lip scrub (I like to make my own with jojoba oil, argan oil, rosehip oil, and sugar) so I can't speak to those. I've commented about this product on a few RUclipsrs videos when lip masks and balms come up and they all ♥️ the comment but have never tried it or at least said they've tried it. It's really good I promise and one of the few products I keep repurchasing. I really think you'll like it because after binging your videos the last couple hours I can tell we are basically makeup twins.
TLDR: Aritaum overnight lip is the greatest lip mask/balm ever IMO and is super affordable

Regarding Bite reformulation- they are reformulating to become vegan, so this product will change. The old formula of the lip mask was lanolin based, so the new one is going to be very different. I’ve heard good things about the new formula.

What eyeshadow are you wearing in this video? It’s gorgeous.
I do Lansinoh nipple cream (meant for nipples chapped from breastfeeding) as lip balm. It’s just 100% lanolin and it’s way WAY cheaper than like Bite or Lanolips or these other brands that basically just package lanolin and up charge it a bunch.
Edit: Duh I wrote this before watching the video and you mention this! Who comments before watching?? Smh I’m dumb. But tell me about your eyeshadow! lol

Please be more mindful about the Amazon link to the Laneige lip sleeping mask. Plenty have said they’ve received different formulations, rashes and other allergic reactions from the ones purchased on Amazon. Also, it is fact that there are replicas circulating the net of this product. Stick to the official site or Sephora. Ofc people are free to do as they please, but this is just a warning.

Lanolips is one of the worst products out there. The brand name is an obvious reference to the main ingredient in their product being lanolin, which is really terrible for your skin. It causes dryness and can lead to acne and clogged pores.
