October 25, 1981.. I had the first date with this awesome girl. 32 years later, she is my wife of 27 years. And this is our song. When she calls, this song is her ringtone.
Its pretty cool when the star of a movie can also play the soundtrack. Dudley Moore a class act. The world is a little less amazing without him. RIP
1981 I met a young lady who was getting ready to move to NYC to pursue a music career. I was a young Sgt in the AF and recognized a good thing when I saw it. After a worldwind 10 week romance I asked her to marry me, since I knew first-hand that long distance relationships rarely lasted. We're married 30 years this year...who'da thunk it? Caught between the moon and NYC indeed. ;-)
This song has, for me, always been the essence of New York. That is because on my first flight ever to New York, in 1981, the in-flight movie was Arthur. So Arthur's Theme is a constant reminder of that memorable trip. I grew up in the sixties with Pete and Dud as favourite entertainers in Not only .. But Also.... A brilliant actor and musician who died far to soon.
Dudley was the Hugh Grant of his generation...What a brilliant actor and classical musician...Had he lived longer, he would've probably become the most successful British actor of his generation and in his era, critically and commercially...Dudley's career would've thrived decade after decade, had he lived.

Amazing! never seen this. Anyone who never seen the movie Arthur they agree with me afterwards. one of the greatest comedies and easily best love story ever. The premise of giving up 750 million for love is made believable by all their acting. Probably never be another movie with such chemistry between actors for a long time.

Just saw christopher cross live tonight. He is one class act. I can affirm he still has a healthy fan base. At the end fans were storming the stage for autographs and such.
"Arthur"..with the late great Dudley Moore..is one of my all time favorite movies..he displayed a piece of his musical talent in the movie when he played his version of "Santa Claus Is coming to Town"..I always loved the theme song Christopher Cross recorded for the movie..the idea of both men performing this song on stage together was terriffic..Dudley Moore..RIP...

Dudley was one of the most talented people to come out of the UK and also one of the most underated esp by his own countrymen. He did far better in the USA.

Such a great song. And Christopher Cross delivers it with such a sweet voice. Great performance along with Dudley Moore who was such a talent. CC appeared with DM on the latter's show, and Moore seemed very gracious toward CC. In fact, while performing the song on Moore's show, Cross looked at Moore at the same time he did here while addressing "Arthur."

I've read the comments here. We all loved the original "Arthur" and Dudley Moore. I liked his small roles in movies like "Foul Play" and his role in ""10". He was an "Outstanding" piano player, but I've been confused about these stories printed about how he was at home. From what I've read, his past girls have said some "crazy shit" about him. Like making them dance all night etc. All I can say is WE MISS YA BUD!

I don't think that anything bad is going on between Chris and Dudley in this. My impression is that Chris is looking over at Dudley as if he is the character "Arthur." Their was a TV special around this same period in time called "The Dudley Moore Show." Chris performed "Arthur's Theme" on it with Dudley. He looks over at Dudley the same way in that performance, at the same places in the song as in this performance.

i'm not sure dudley was on bad terms with chris but instead wanted to show people that he just was'nt "that funny guy" so he refrained from smiling to show his other talents.

Pretty good live recording, but you'll notice Dudley was off timing a couple times here and Chris would glance at him kinda funny. Dudley was an awesome player but as he got older, his playing skills vanished. Arthur, Foul Play and the movie Like Father, Like Son were his best movies. We all miss him though. RIP Dudley

With all due respect to Hugh Grant he was no Dudley Moore.
Watching this over a few times, I get the impression that Dudley was in a bad mood. Halfway through the song he tries to wrong foot Christopher by sort of syncopating the tune which causes Cross to look round. Dudley gives him quite a withering look. Just get the feeling they did not get on.
That's because Dudley was battling with PSP and probably didn't know he had it. Do a research on it, moods were changing on him at the time..... facial expressions were hard to interpret as well.
I dunno I just think he looks at Moore as he sings the word Arthur, I have read interviews where Cross went out of his way to praise Moore so I doubt there was any ill feeling there
