Actor Johnny Depp is suing ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million for defamation in connection with Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she spoke out about being the victim of domestic violence. Heard’s article did not specifically name Depp as her alleged abuser, but according to Depp’s lawsuit, it relied “on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her.” Amber Heard is counter-suing Depp for $100 million.
The defamation trial began Monday in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia, with jury selection completing on the same day. Unfortunately, in this world people just assume that anyone that struggles with addiction must be an evil monster. That they’re all horrible, bad people that are out to hurt others. It’s so upsetting to see. Heard’s attorneys know this and are exploiting it.
If only people knew the truth that, in most cases, addicts are the ones in the most pain. They’re the ones that have been hurt the most and they just need and want love and acceptance. They want to not hurt anymore.
ETA: I am fully aware, from personal experience, that the behavior, choices and consequences of addicts can affect and often cause pain for those around them . I’m not saying that isn’t true. I’ve been there and know all to well what comes along with loving an addict. I’ve also had my own struggles and know what I felt then, too. What I am saying is that it is absurd to assume that just because a person struggles with addiction they are these violent, horrible, evil monsters. That’s all. I’m not defending their bad choices, not at all. I’m simply saying that you can’t paint everyone with the same brush. One addict may be the kindest, most loving person you’ll ever meet. Another may be a complete jerk. They’re still just regular people. They have different personalities and characteristics and emotions just like people that are lucky enough to not be addicted. Just as being diagnosed with a different mental illness doesn’t always mean that a person is violent or manipulative or “crazy”. We cannot feed into the stigma and make assumptions based on a label that is unfairly put upon people. Everyone is different, even those with diseases and addictions. Addiction does not discriminate.

He filed this lawsuit knowing that all this would be brought into the open. There is no way a man guilty of what Amber accuses him of would put himself through having his darkest moments made public knowledge. i 💯 % agree. i have been a fan of johnny for decades, hardcore for several of those years, and one of the biggest constants about him was Always that he is UBER (EXTREMELY) private. the fact that he was willing to go thru all of this & be exposed this way shows.. a LOT.

When they showed her texts to him regarding the divorce she said I didn’t know you didn’t file my lawyer made me file about the domestic.. she thought he was going to file about it so she had to get him before he got her.. I don’t believe he had any intention on filing about it until the report she put out in 2018.. a very toxic behavior on her part. All she wants is to hurt him in every way, and ruin his life. Narcissistic tendencies if you ask me. Can’t stand this woman. At all.

She actually pre-emptively did what she knew he could legitimately do, but he's so kind he was really trying to take the peaceful out and not make her even look bad. he was still willing to take care of her.

One that's had this planned for a very long time. If you listen to their recordings, she used a lot of "buzz phrases" that many times don't even fit within the current conversation. "You're hitting me when I'm down" "I'm hitting the wall" "You're hurting me" "You keep kicking me and kicking me" and none of these instances have anything to do with physical violence. It's JD trying to leave and get space or JD not agreeing with her or not behaving how she wants him to. Those phrases were put in those recordings on purpose to use again later without context.
And if you're telling the truth, you don't have to call your victim and beg them to say the "fight was mutual."

This lawyer is so frustrating. He might as well just take the stand and testify himself. He doesn’t wait for JD to answer before going on to another question. And when he does get an answer in, the lawyer goes on as if he answered in a different way. Which clearly shows he isn’t listening to the witness, just wanting to get in his own “testimony” of things that Amber says happened. He talks over objections multiple times, talks over the witness multiple times. It’s so rude and unprofessional. Half the time he’s not even asking JD questions. Just reading from an exhibit and asking “did i read that right?” Is this case to determine the lawyers literacy…or? If I was a juror this would not sit well with me.

Yes, I noticed that. Like he wrote his own speech thinking he knew what Depp would answer. Many of the follow-up questions didn't make sense, based on Depp's actual answer. I also hated that any time Johnny elaborated he stopped him and condescendingly told him to respect the court's time. Oh, PUHLEESE. The judge seemed annoyed with the lawyer at times lol

Is this trial about only his addiction? He’s admitted to it. What sticks out to me is he never went after her character or their private misgivings. He spoke about specific situations where she struck him. They are going on and on about his drug use but not once has it been shown that he has been violent towards her. You can’t sue someone for 100 mil bc they destroyed their own body. The constant digging at him over addiction is not landing like they think. God I hope the jury sees through all of this. She has literally ruined him. No reason whatsoever that a 2 year marriage over a 35 yr career should end in 100 million. Ever.
What gets me is Heard making so much out of his drug use - what about HER? Obviously she had to be using it also - today it's part of the entire social get-together scenario for celebrities/musicians etc! She broke her own restraining order to come see him, armed with a phone set to record so that she can try and get more fodder for her ridiculous false allegations, records him actually hurting himself and doesn't try and get help for him, doesn't call his security team who are always close by, doesn't call 911 with the phone, she uses it to RECORD his agony and her fake "that KNIFE is dirty and blunt, it could really hurt... ME" BS to the microphone when he isn't even aware of what she's saying anymore, he's in too much pain, and is definitely not trying to cut her, only himself.

I’ve been yelling at my phone saying the same thing. But Johnny handled himself so well when the lawyer would do that. Her lawyer continued to show just how Ms Heard treated him…. Never letting him speak or letting him finish his thoughts. He apparently is a very artistic man… his answers took a while but he also was able to paint a pic of what his time w her was like. He has owned EVERYTHING he’s done. Why on earth would he choose to sue her, allow their whole relationship to be laid bare and allow for it be recorded live to the world (knowing the kinds of things that would be coming out about him at his very lowest) if he isn’t 1- innocent or 2- crazy. He is a little crazy clearly…. But he’s not a person that jams a bottle inside a woman…. Team Johnny!!
Once they get the answer, they move on. That's what court is all about. The days where his lawyer allowed him to give his life story, that was a show. It's not typical of courtroom etiquette. They aren't up there to elaborate on every question. They're up there to ask and answer. This *TIME* is her lawyer's. Depp had his moment to speak. He chose to tell his life story. That's what Depp felt was most needed to build his case.
He is not a good Rep. He is cutting his answers off. A good Attorney wants you to speak as much as possible so they can get more information. Something sketchy about the cut off. He isn't wanting him to talk more, but why? Sounds to me he isn't prepared for how clever JD is and afraid of going into AH information. I haven't heard a word other than texts about the defamation situation. IDK when the texts took place, but sound like as soon as they got married it was a mess. This a is weird court case. Someone’s texts to their close friends, especially during tough times, are extremely private and often include words and phrases that we would never share or act on in the real world. I think that’s obvious, and I hope the jury feels the same. I stand with JD and I tip my hat to his demeanor and behavior while all of this extremely private info is being shared with the world. However the words that you say to friends may just be venting and might be extremely exaggerated and blatantly false on the face of it due to the nature of what venting is, which is to get emotions under control. The picture of cocaine was from Mar 2013 - a year after the relationship started. The picture doesn't even prove he was doing drugs at that point so why take it? Ugh! That made me so angry. There's no way Jerry Judge would have said that, and the recording isn't very clear. Her attorney said that solely to hurt him and rattle him. You can tell by the testimony of multiple witnesses that Jerry and Johnny had a very close, loving dynamic.
It’s so hard to sit and watch this so called
“cross examination”. Her team seems to be so unprepared, it’s infuriating.
And all of their evidence is his drug and alcohol issues and her recording them secretly. I think she was setting him up after she decided she didn't want to be with him anymore. She wanted money, period. And she didn't care if she destroyed him in the process.

He apologizes to Amber for taking drugs- the lawyer is doing all he can to twist that, to manipulate the jury into confusing that apology for his drug addiction with a hypothetical apology to physically harming her. It’s painful to observe this. It’s not about truth- the trial is all about who is the better lawyer. I hope the jury sees through this!

He asks a long, compound question, only asking "correct?" at the end, which is the only thing that makes it a question at all, because the remainder of what he says is a statement. Johnny's attorney objects to the compound question, the objection is sustained, and Rottenborn says he'll move on. So all that just to get the statement said in front of the jury, with no confirmation from Johnny at all.

Being a victim of domestic violence - this made me cry for Johnny. You can tell that Amber was not genuine and was acting because she was recording. It gave me flashbacks of my situation. I feel bad for Johnny because society has a stigma that men can't be victims of domestic violence.

What made me want to laugh... and scream... is that ridiculous lawyer harping on about the “two bottles of champagne” but ignoring the 1000 cans of Red Bull!! 🤣. Has he never ever heard of exaggeration? I hate lawyers like that. They are not interested in the truth. Only their pay Cheque and to be “right” regardless of whether they are or not. Quite happy to ruin a person’s reputation and life as long as it helps them win!

Imagine having your so-called wife recording you at your lowest and using your despair against you. It is sickening. I don't know in what way AH's team thought this recording would help them but it only shows how evil they are to make Johnny relive that moment and expose his vulnerabilities in front of the whole world. And Amber acting trying to cry so badly even thought she perfectly knew what she was doing when she recorded him. He said "cut me, you HATE me'. If she wasn't recording selfishly, she would have cut him.

Your being biased, she takes her eyes off him plenty, but he’s the one on the stand and being questioned so even if she did stare at him it makes sense. What else would she be looking at?

Poor Johnny... the last thing they played at the end was heartbreaking. Afterward you could see him look at Amber with a look of betrayal and hurt, like, "How could you?"
That was a vulnerable moment at one of his lowest points in life, wanting to cut himself, and she chose to record and is now using it against him.
On top of that, this comes right before the weekend so that's what's left on his mind for 3 days... my heart breaks for him
How often did Johnny ask about the date of one of the pieces of evidence because they almost never establish a timeline and the defense lawyer just ignores him and asks for the next piece of evidence to be shown? How is this in any way acceptable behavior?
If I was part of the jury I’d be absolutely disgusted by Amber. Literally proved nothing about Johnny. Only tried to humiliate him publicly.

This chapter in his life reminded me of “Edward Scissorhands” How everything was misunderstood. Can’t believe how she recorded Johnny at his most vulnerable times.
That's what you get for being ' in touch with your emotions' or showing your ' feminine side' as a lot of modern chicks like heard say these days. They'll use it against you and throw it in your face to try and emasculate you, demean you.
She had obviously pre planned everything knowing the relationship won't last, further that was her ambition for the prenuptial

After every horrific thing Amber has done, can anyone blame Johnny for calling her names? I think most of us watching have much worse names for her than he ever used. And this is what her lawyer thinks will discredit him? They are grasping at every straw to make him look bad, but not one person that knew him well thinks he's capable of hurting anyone. One doesn't suddenly become an abuser after fifty some years. There's always a pattern with abusers. I hope justice will be served. It's very clear who was the abuser here. Justice for Johnny, and healing, and much love, and support from all of us who love you dearly.
