Great song guys! I'm a Grayson county native and grew up in Galax, VA. Also, I am the artist who painted the backdrop on the stage of the Rex Theatre. It's great to see that it's still in use. Keep up the great work. Craig Bond.
Keep coming back... Great song
This is soooo dope ......wish more my generation was into real music like this
Back in 1990 I bailed out of my apartment, took my rent money and bought a Greyhound ticket from Tucson to DC to see my gal... we had our 22nd weddin anniversary this summer... I can relate...
Belated congratulations!!
Bluegrass music....what is it about this genre?? It could be a song about crops getting flooded away, your woman getting pissed at you and leaving you for another man, your dog dying, wheels falling off your horse-drawn wagon, then your horse dying, lastly the bank coming to take your farm,....and it still puts me in a good mood.
Give me a song that rips my heart out, and I'm a happy man!
One of the best Bluegrass songs ever...and a fantastic video, too. Such a pretty girl.
I RECENTLY JUST HEARD THIS GROUP ON PBS AND I KEEP PLAYING IT SO TODAY I LOOKED THEM UP ON GOOGLE AND AND HEARD SO MUCH MORE. I JUST LOVE THEM. CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO THEM. I NEVER HEARD OF THEM BEFORE.

One of the most 'American' towns I saw on my trip around that country. Sadly I hit it kind of late on in the evening and most of the stores were shut. Had some tasty ribs though in a place on the corner. Bluegrass Unlimited magazine brought me here. I'll get back to Galax VA some day and do the entire Blueridge Parkway.
Great video my friends...really enjoyed it! You all are Stars to me!
Yeah, one of my favorite tunes, sung by my favorite band....Thanks Russell!

I'm from Buchanan Co. Virginia, gotta love some good bluegrass.
Great Song i grow up in Galax Va
soooooo good, i´ve got a Southern' soul!
I found the song´s lyrics, for all the bluegrass lovers!
Well I’ve been saving nickels and lookin’ for dimes
Cleanin’ out my pockets for all the money I can find
‘Cause my days are filled with sadness and every night I pine
For my sweetheart’s in Virginia and I’m in ‘Caroline
Hey mister won’t you take me farther on down the tracks
I’ve got to find a way can’t wait another day
To see my pretty little girl from Galax
I jumped an open freight car thought that would be alright
‘Till the brakeman caught me sleepin’ in the middle of the night
So I’ve been out here walkin’ with my thumb up in the air
Checkin’ passin’ cars for someone to get me there
Hey mister won’t you take me farther on down the tracks
I’ve got to find a way can’t wait another day
To see my pretty little girl from Galax
Now she can play the fiddle best you’ve ever heard
And when she sings a sad song I hang on every word
Been so long since I’ve seen her in that little mountain town
I just need someone to pick me up and lay that hammer down
Hey mister won’t you take me farther on down the tracks
I’ve got to find a way can’t wait another day
To see my pretty little girl from Galax
Mister won’t you take me farther on down the tracks
I’ve got to find a way can’t wait another day
To see my pretty little girl from Galax
Great singing and music

The Loose Strings Band thought that was y'all
Cool video, good song!
I love ALL Bluegrass But this one has that old time string sound.. signed , Bass playing gal, not too far from from Galax
Feel good
My ex-wife is from galaxy va. when I was on my way home from a California run I always played it for her
Sweet video. Very well done! Enjoyed that very much!
The most surprising thing about this video... is the Citgo.
I haven't seen one of those in years! lol
Its TYME to head to Galax this week to check out the worlds greatest Fiddlers Convention, and hear some Loose Strings !!
some of the vido was shot in my home town
@IBLILT I use to live there.
Although Steve Filling (banjo) no longer with the group (health issues for atime) now in another group. 3rd Tyme still one of the top bands in the genre.Russell is from my state, Texas. He's from Pasadena Tx
That's Steve "Dilling" not Filling. Guess that ol' "Auto-Spell/Correct" got ya! ☺️
I just found this I love it I live in Galax and wondering if that is Ray Kohl in the car?
It is, and I was told that's his Hudson Hornet he's driving.
Thanks for the last name
I know that girl they're singing about.
Love the old fashioned bluegrass sound on this video. Is the banjo picker playing a pre war Gibson? My dream instrument is a pre war, 1030, Gison fdouble flange arch top five string banjo. Keep up the great sound. God bless, Ron the banjo picker from Indianapolis.
HURRA!!
Loved the song, I am sure theres a lot of pretty Girls in Galax, I just have one question...Where were the Dulcimers? Dulcimer Players will know what I am talking about.
tune is lot like the Cherokee Shuffle (qv)
Wish someone would look at me like she looks at him when he gets off the bus..
Who is the older guy driving the old car he looks awfully familiar. Great tune and video
What is the car? It's gorgeous.
I asked around some, it looks like a '52 Hudson Hornet.
Love the song. But it's just the opposite from me as I'm the guy in East Virginia Blues.
0:24 jeb bush?
Two videos of friends today added www.countryway.cz/index.php/videa-mates
Filling. Not Filling..Darn Auto Correct
CMT would never show this because it is actually good music, not this junk they call country music or a stupid reality show.
