I feel like Gura was really lightening in a bottle in so many ways. First, Vtubers have been slowly building as a trend for over a decade now but the past couple of years have really been the peak of western audiences really getting curious and interested in Vtubers as a concept. While there a huge number of Japanese viewers, it has to be said that the English speaking viewer is absolutely titanic and back then it was a virtually untapped market for Japanese virtual streaming companies. Hololive just happens to be one of the first. Second, Gura's "previous life" was already an incredibly talented streamer with years of experience. However she was suffering burnout due to a increasingly toxic fanbase and dealing with the struggles of being an independent streamer. Thus Hololive announcing the launch of its English branch right at that time was an absolute golden opportunity for her to start fresh. And boy did she come back swinging. Third, with Hololive English launching during the height of the Covid lockdowns, there were a lot of people cooped up in their homes looking for fun escapism. And unto the internet comes this group of "virtual idols," a concept that a lot of people hadn't heard before and all of a sudden you have thousands upon of thousands of people coming in to check out this new thing. And they discovered not only the novel concept of Vtubers first hand, but they also discovered that these people were really really fun. Frankly if you told me that the stars and the planets aligned at the moment of Gura's debut, I would believe it. Nothing can take away from the fact she's a extremely talented streamer but her debut was also a perfect storm of everything falling into place at the exactly the right time. Very important factor that gets overlooked. A lot of people just wave her success away by saying it's her previous persona's fanbase, but there's a lot more to it than just that. Tbh considering subscriber inactivity most youtubers deal with, the actual migration of old fans to Gura is probably just a fraction of what a lot of people think it is.

The best part about it that really showed just how humble she really is is when she hit 1 million. Having a celebration when you hit 1 million subs has become a tradition in hololive but Gura didn't have one since she knew that having a celebration for hitting 1 million like 1 month after debut would be a huge slap in the face to her senpai who have been working for much longer to hit that milestone. Classy move there.
It was legitimate race between Korone and Fubuki to a Mil subscribers. All the Hololive fans were debating who'd win. Korone was gaining on Fubuki quick, but Fubuki was (and still is) an absolute workaholic. Then just outta left field, Gura beat them in just 39 days after her debut. This just proves how HUGE the western market is for Hololive.
Honestly, I hope Japanese media and entertainment businesses take note of this. So many times things are released exclusively in Japan with those companies claiming it wouldn't be profitable to release worldwide because there isn't an audience for it like in Japan.
I was thinking "oh, wow, look at korone's growth" then suddenly gawr appeared & *fucking exploded* with the power of a million nukes and a thousand suns.
She finally came so far, she has subs equal to Hololive's #2 and #3 combined. Hard to say exactly when but I suspect she'll eventually exceed both of Kizuna's channels put together.
Not only does she take the top spot in a ludicrous amount of time with what has to be record breaking growth, she also manages to snipe 1mil before Fubuki and Korone can by 50k and then leave everyone in the dust. Apex predictor is a force of nature.
I remember back in the day, it was a question on who would win 1 million subs first. Korone or Fubuki. Then Gura steamrolled over to a million and now over 2 million. It almost feels like it came out of nowhere!
This honestly reminds me of that scene in the beginning of Cars 3 when Jackson Storm came out of nowhere and overtook literally everyone, except Gura is a cute shark and not a four-wheeled "a"-hole.

Isn't it part of japanese culture to adress someone who have been working in the company longer than you as "senpai"? *cmiiw
@@rikzak8431 yeah but it just kinda proves gura is still humble despite the sucess. There was an interview of gura where she said she likes watching her genmates reach milestones and such.
@@grassnutt_108 can I ask for the source of interview?
I like the stream where she called herself a professional weeb now, because she gets to use senpai unironically.
The “A” that started it all.

The moment she appeared the battle was already decided.
Suddenly Apex Predator.
The way the beat perfectly lines up with Gura overtaking Korone and Fubuki, and with Korone overtaking Fubuki is just perfect
I genuinely choked on my water from laughing, I was NOT expecting her to go THAT fast
There’s a parallel world out there where Gura arrive on time for the stream and had 0 technical difficulties. I don’t want to live in that reality.
What were JP fans opinions on Gura's meteoric rise?
Gonna reply here to wait for an answer
I too would like to know.
Oooh boy they were mad at the moment
But they calm down fast
If you look at the timing Gura hit 1 mill right as those two were hitting 950k and that explosion is just kind of mind blowing.
After being a fan this long is amazing to see how this shark just blew up and shot to the top. Gura still is a joy to watch
The fact that she just sped through everyone (who have been with hololive for a year) is really amazing and shows the power of Western weebs.
Eyo who said we Asian weebs aren't here, we may be Asian but most of us don't speak japanese so hololive en it is

Honestly, I hope Japanese media and entertainment businesses take note of this. So many times things are released exclusively in Japan with those companies claiming it wouldn't be profitable to release worldwide because there isn't an audience for it like in Japan.
@@TheMrVengeance Na, it's fine like it is. If they start investing to go into the western market then woke twitter will change what we all love.
I am honored that my work was used to produce something so great.
You are a treasure. Thank you for everything you have brought us.
it's funny that this video was dated before it was even released.
2M was hit the day before upload.

She moves so quickly because she's hydrodynamic.
Fubuki in fiction "I lost the race! Noooo"
Fubuki actually "Oh good someone else gets to deal with that"
Dis why she doesn’t need “boing boing” IT GIVES HER SPEEEEEEED
Hydrodynamics go brr
HAHAHAHAHA
And yeah keep complaining about it when someone brought this topic. Lmao she wanted some boing boing as well.
Literally she is the Paddle boar-
A wise man once said _"a shark can be a slow starter when finding prey, but it can sound like a V8 engine once it found it's prey"_
I salute whoever said that
I feel like that’s something someone would say ngl
Fubuki: **far ahead**
Gura's fans be like: *Oh no! Anyway~*
hey fubuki watch out there's a shark behind you swimming fast! OH MY GOD SHE'S WEARING AIR PODS SHE CAN'T HEAR ME! OH GOD FUBUKIIIII!!!
Gura : *a*
Everyone : At your service my queen
I was thinking "oh, wow, look at korone's growth" then suddenly gawr appeared & *fucking exploded* with the power of a million nukes and a thousand suns.
a literal shark that jumped out of the water and snatched the 1mil goal outta nowhere.
Our little uwu rapping gremlin: _reaches 1 million subs_
Also our little uwu rapping gremlin: *wanna see me do it again*
I legit hear this in her voice.
Just like the video...
3.21 mill baby!
SASUGA APEX PREDATOR
3.49 M baby
This Reminds me of MHA when todoroki and bakugo was fighting for top place and deku just bursting past them with a mine boost . Haha
Gura: gets picked on for being hydrodynamic
Also Gura: 2million shrimps
It's that hydrodynamism allowing her to zoom so quickly.
Korone and Fubuki: Yay we're gonna be the first ones on hitting 1million subs
Gura: Hold my a
Gura goes shaaaaakkk
This honestly reminds me of that scene in the beginning of Cars 3 when Jackson Storm came out of nowhere and overtook literally everyone, except Gura is a cute shark and not a four-wheeled "a"-hole.
Well I see Storm as the Lighting McQueen in the first movie same over inflated pride, ego and everything
Can remake this video when Gura surpasses Kizuna AI in a few months.
Months? 👀
She will maybe at July or August also june 20 is her birthday that was a huge boost for her
Almost there
But what about MafuMafu?
He has like 2.99m
Kizuna Ai has 2.95m
Gura 2.74m
@@iwuvchu264 except Mafu doesn't exactly belong in the VTuber category, since he's exclusively an utaite.
Plus the fact that Ai has two channels, totaling at around 4m.
Gura goes so fast she makes both the Flash and the Red Comet look like paraplegic grandmas.
This whole thing is like an anime.
Korone = Anime protagonist who always does her best
Fubuki = Protagonists rival who is always just one step ahead
Gura = The American exchange student who Aces everything she does
Fubuki: I’ll get to 1 million first
Korone: No I will

Well that time I was reincarnated as a shark is a talented VTuber
Baby shark has returned, chosen of the algorithm.
She went "A" cause that's all you could hear as she zoomed by.
i got recommended this after watching gura play skyrim for 4 hours
When you combine the hydro dynamism of a plank and the speed of a shark, that's what happens.
Japan is the 12th most populous county. That's no slouch. Yet one EN Hololive member completely overtook everyone instantly.
