imo if you have shown windows 7 and 8/10 to someone who's never seen any Windows UIs in their entire lives, they would think that Windows 7 is never since it just looks so modern and good and stuff... I'm way more nostalgic to Windows 7 even tho I've even used Windows 98 for a while and XP for years, but just the memories of being in class in the computer room and everyone opening a ton of windows just to scroll through with win+tab or finding out features like shake to hide other windows and showing it to the teacher... aaah priceless. I really hate how Microsoft started destroying windows after 7... Oh yeah not to mention that 7 promotional video that Linus showed in 2019 I believe in the "what happens when Windows 7 dies" video, that promo looks way more modern than newer ones, the only thing that made me think that its actually old was when they zoomed out of the picture and showed those extremely old laptops it was running on...
10:59 Hey Michael, speaking of Windows Live Writer, a few years ago Microsoft open sourced it and it's now maintained as Open Live Writer. It's updated to be able to connect to blog systems that may not work with Windows Live Writer anymore.
Both Windows Live Writer and Open Live Writer can still connect to WordPress. In terms of UI, they’re both identical, but you can get Open Live Writer in the Microsoft Store.
@@melonademan5639 They can connect to WordPress, but I'm pretty sure WLW doesn't work with Blogger anymore. It's probably better to use OLW either way since it's still maintained.
14:08 is because since Windows 8, the new additional shells (like start menu, charms bar/action center etc) have their respective "windows". Microsoft developed these horribly, so any legacy app (even the legacy Alt-Tab menu of Windows itself) has this problem.

@BluePhoenix I think he may be talking about a Fall 2020 Update because there IS one already on this channel, but it's from 2019 and it was Windows 10 Build 1903 which was the May 2019 Update. So technically you're right, but we may need a remastered version because last year, we didn't have to sign up for Deviantart to download the custom XP stuff, but apparently in 2020, we need a remastered version for those who are new to this channel or those who are MJD Veterans who have been subbed for quite some time. But yeah, technically you're right, but there's also the "Make XP Look Like Windows 10" video too, so don't forget about that one.

Great video as always. Gotta love Microshaft for break compatibility just so they can keep the ugly flat look of Windows. By the way, I know you mentioned that due to an audio clip at the end RUclips has kept in an extra 2 minutes of black screen, but as of me writing this, the edit hasn't been done and the black screen is still there.
Thanks, I was doing this yesterday on my Dell Precision M4500 laptop which I have Windows 10 on it 20H2. The laptop is actually slightly newer than Windows Vista, it's from 2010 so it actually originally came with Windows 7. I was able to do the modifications to get it to look and feel like Windows Vista. Only thing is I wasn't able to change the title bar to how it looked in Windows Vista, but for the most part, it looks like Windows Vista.
I made a few recommendations for some extra tweaks you can make on the other video, some of those were covered in this one but I thought I'd repost the ones that weren't covered here: - If you enable colored title bars from within Winaero Tweaker, you can change the system color to the light blue color that looks more like the Aero Basic theme in Vista. - You can copy some programs from a Vista ISO or VM such as MS Paint and they'll work under Windows 10. - With some older 32-bit programs, if you go into properties and change the compatibility settings to Windows 98/Me, it will actually run with the old Aero Basic theming, which is pretty neat.
The problem with Glass 8 is that they have to update it everytime a new version of Windows 10 is released. It is not completely free - you have to donate
this looks really cool thanks MJD this was a big help sense i don't like the look of windows 10 making it look like my child hood the best that i can makes me feel better about my self
Good job on the video :) Yeah even after disabling edge on Windows 10 its still in the background and eating resources without actually being open I tend to find this a lot across my computer and freinds and familys. I use take ownership (registry key) and take over the edge folder and just delete it off the system completely that stops that
One other thing to do to make it even more convincing is to change the C:\ Drive icon. I do not have an Icon for you, but if you have one, these are the directions to change the icon: 1. Open "regedit" 2. Browse to "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons" 3. Create a "New Key" named "C" 4. Inside of the Key named "C", create another New Key called "DefaultIcon" 5. Click the Key "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\C\DefaultIcon", and change the "(Default)" data string to the icon you want to display, make sure it's in a place you'll never move. Mine's in the root of the C drive. It should be there, if not, retrace your steps all the way back through, and make sure you named everything without the quotation marks, and had everything case sensitive. Then it should work. (This works on any drive you have)
I might be wrong since this was so long ago, but I think pinning items to the Taskbar was under a different name. It was adding a shortcut to the Taskbar through drag and drop, I think.
To make the Start Menu's button wide, go to windows vista start menu skin folder, and right click StartMenuL10N,and copy it to C:\Program Files\Classic Shell and switch the copied and the other StartMenuL10N files.
So, I used a free trial of WindowBlinds Theme Manager on my Windows 10 22H2 to use the Aero theme from Vista, and yeah, I think it looks better. The theme I found was from a video where you turn Windows 10 into Windows 7.
You could use WindowBlinds 10 there is a great Windows Vista theme (AeroVistaX Reset) for it made this year that is fully compatible with Windows 10 and also Start 10 is a great start menu replacement :)
There is one more thing to get the true experience.. Make a task in task scheduler to crash the PC when solitaire is opened. Jokes aside, this is a good tutorial and it actually looks a lot like vista.
Has anybody ever noticed that using certain programs in compatibility mode , such as office 2003 in XP or 98 mode under Windows 10 , brings up some of the window borders in a vista/7 basic theme ? I’ve tried everything to get all windows explorer borders looking like that but to no avail

Hey, Michael! I know of a few things that can make Windows 10 look EVEN MORE like Vista. First, in the Classic/Open Shell settings, you can change the transparency of the taskbar. Second, you can port the backgrounds from Vista to 10, by just putting them all in the C:\WINDOWS\WEB\WALLPAPER directory. Third, you can just get Windows 10 LTSC 2019. It eliminates most UWP apps (including Edge, for that nice Vista aesthetic :)), and is based on Windows 10 version 1809, so AeroGlass will work. Fourth, WinAero has a utility that allows you to bring back the 7 personalization menu. Not exactly Vista's, but close enough. Those are all of the other things I could think of.
Yeah, I'm pretty young, so I only experienced XP, Vista(school PCs), 7 and now 10 (didn't bother with 8, it's just not for me). Out of what I tried, I'd put 7 on the first place, then 10, then Vista, then XP.
You can use Start10 and WindowBlinds. The results is great, not the same, but amazingly similar. I've tried with newer windows 10 builds and still works like a charm.
