remember guys, if you plan on using a rubber roof paint or sealer or you plan on using eternabond after using silicone on your seams and vents the epdm and eternabond will NOT adhere to the silicone, this means you will have a gap right along the line of your seam under the eternabond or rubber roof coating. you are best to clean the seam and or vent really well and use the eternabond or epdm ON TOP of the roof and then use the silicone and another other sealant on the INSIDE to prevent "osmosis" of the moisture, if you allow that gap under the tape or rubber it will look good and seem intact but underneath the substrate there will be zero adhesion and water will penetrate and pool UNDER your rubber roof, this will eventually spread right across your roof and the heat will try and evaporate it but it will do nothing but lift the substrate from your roof
Some of the major concerns I have with RUclips is that most folks use it as a resource or learning place. The problem with that folks take the videos from so called professional shops as good quality information. I find that almost zero so-called professionals have ever really taken the time to discern the products they use and they use them in the wrong application. I know this guy did not read the Tech Data sheet on any of the products because he was twirling them to read something to tell you. Comment 1. Butyl. Butyl will dry out from the sun's UV light and become brittle. That is why you would want to "Cap" caulk as he says...to minimize UV light damage. We don't use the butyl because it makes a mess and there are far better products out there that will last longer. Butyl will ooze out for a long time and will push caulking out of place. 2. Silicone will not stick to silicone....and also there are specific steps to follow to properly apply any caulk. One so-called pro on RUclips was showing folks to use mineral spirits because that's the way the RV manufacturers do things...He is right. RV manufacturers deliberately assemble coaches to fail. There are industrial and commercial silicones out there...but this stuff id junk. Silicone leaves and oily residue on the substrate so nothing else will stick to it 3. 311 sealant. Where are you to apply this sealant? On the roof because it is a self leveling. Well before you do understand this product is not designed for ANY membrane roof. That means rubber or TPO Maybe fiberglass but the fiberglass should be very clean and not oxidized. 4. Sealant vs Adhesives. Ubderstand what you are doing and understand that sealants seal...meaning they have no general strength to keep things together. You would seal something like the tops of a counter top that isn't going to move. An adhesive bonds items together. Will you need a primer?? on what? where? ....you need to do research on everything you use to make sure you are using it properly and within its design. So you may be wondering how I know all this...easy...I read the limitations to the products on the Tech data sheet. All products undergo testing ASTM...which means American Standard for Testing Materials. The products have limitation on their strength and weaknesses listed and where these products were designed to be used. Too many so-called pros just do and don't really know why or compatibility on products, installation techniques they just do because they have done if for a long time...a long time the wrong way. Here is the best tip I can give...if it says RV on it....DON'T BUY IT!

@@buggzo Try Big Stretch by Sashco...but if the gap is large you need to use a foam backer rod to fill in the big gap. Don't expect the caulk to cover a half inch gap. They have videos on it on their site and RUclips. Thanks for watching.

The current window unit has a custom metal support made out of sheet metal to fill the window and then another custom sheet metal support that is screwed into the AC. The newer AC is smaller and I'll likely just be filling in the difference in the metal framing with plywood or 2x2 wood, custom fit for the new smaller unit

Agreed. That stuff does not belong anywhere on the RV. There are excellent industrial roofing silicone products but you will never find them in a retail store.
You have to use outdoor speakers. They are water resistant. Most of the time ones rated for Marine/RV will be fine on the exterior unless they state interior speakers. Most of the time you can find a wider selection when looking for marine speakers. The most important thing to look for is the exact same size so it fits in the opening properly. They all connect the same and you don't need anything high wattage. Jensen and Furrion are great choices to look into.
This y winabooger gives you this chart the know the sellers dont work silicon? Have yet to find a place to use that junk. Boat life or life caulk if that's compatibal with rubber roofs on aluminum that's the way to go. Dont cob it on the outside do it right remove clean and put sealer were it belongs between flange and roof not gibed up with a big booger on the outside. All The roofs have this sealer smeared all over look at the bottom of a inboard boat at the marina you bent see sealer gibed all over the place on any through hull fittings. And that sits in the water? Hellos

b.s used silicone on popups/rv's in the past and its held up in the extremes of mn weather . purchase outdoor multipurpose clean the surface good and will last year's . forget that 10 bucks a tube b.s . the silicone in the vid works fine 2 bucks at home depot . unless you plan on sending your rv to space just use the cheap shit .
Do not listen to this^^^^ person, people. No clue what he's talking about. REPEAT: DO NOT USE SILICONE ON AN RV...EVER. It is not UV stable and it creates a coating that nothing will adhere to, not even silicone. You've been warned. Use only a quality urethane sealant like Sikaflex or Proflex. Proflex costs more because it has the word "RV" in it. That's the only reason it's more expensive.
@@JShmoe the reason you dont use silcone is because it eventually loses it's bond on one side of the material. Then you can NOT get it off of the other side to repair it. Nothing sticks to silicone so you can't even put more on top. If you use silicone you'll make a huge mess and have a lot of leaks.

Hi Angelica. There isn't any sealant you should be using on the back of the toilet. The connections on the back use gaskets to seal on the piping to prevent leaks, adding tephlon tape or pipe sealant won't work to seal a leak on those types of connections. Most of the time the gasket is bad and can be replaced, they sell them at RV parts stores and some hardware stores a lot of times too. You also want to make sure the connection on the water valve is not cracked, this can cause a leaking issue too. Thanks.
You can use many of the same sealants on the exterior as well as the interior. It just depends on what you want and need. If you need something to hold pieces together better make sure it has an adhesive quality but other than that most sealants with say for interior and exterior use. Anything around the tub, sink and counter just needs to be waterproof. Most sealants would be fine for many applications in RV's including the bathroom.

I have spent days getting every spec of caulk out of my RV bathroom and have decided to go with GE5010 Silicone 2 even though it does not specifically say for "bathroom" on it. But it is suppose to have good adhesive qualities ("for my pieces") which is something you also mentioned. But i do worry about having to remove it it the future because of this "adhesive" quality, lol. Very confusing trying to find a good caulk. Everyone of them has a lot of positives and negatives on their Amazon reviews or other reasons not to use them (such as you can never get it off later). I was going to go with DAP Latex & Silicone but it also did not mention that it was for a bathroom and i had already purchase the GE caulk.
Hello. All of these can be purchased at local hardware stores with the exception of roof LAP sealants, these are RV specific and typically have to be purchased at RV parts suppliers. The name brands aren't too important as many hardware stores carry different brands and some only ship to certain areas so you want to pay more attention to what the contents are of the sealants when purchasing. Pro-Flex is the way too go it's made for rv's extra flexable....

Our slide out has a rubber seal that is sagging. Would this be an adequate fix?
