    Thanks for the explanation, now I can clearly see how an capacitor works as an "obstacle" for some frequencies. But I'm not sure how to connect the output of this tone control to the input of a fuzz pedal (like your 7-min one). Thank you, keep up the good work!

      @@ThePiotrwoy97 a little late to the party here, but it doesn´t really matter. Capacitors in series add up. Meaning if you have for example a 1nF capcaitor and add another 100nF in front or behind it yoiu basically have a 101nF capacitor. if you switch them out you have 100nF(obviouosly)

    I love your videos!
    Im was looking exactly this, to someone to tell how to apply electronics to sound.
    It's great to being able to make pedals but I always wanted to know what I'm doing and how can I start designing my own pedals!
    Maybe you know another videos on this subject? Like "why a transistor can make a distortion" or something like that

    This isn't much of a tone control but more of a bass-cut control. A tone control is usually just a low pass filter, passive RC configuration (where the R is a pot for varying the cutoff frequency) or an active one.

    Wouldn't this only serve to cut bass? I don't see how you could "remove" trebble. All I understand is that you either let pass or block low frequencies since the wiper of the potentiometer is shorted to the 5nF cap. Correct me if I am wrong pls.

    Where to solder the other loose terminals of the 100nf capacitor and the 5nf capacitor that come from the tone potentiometer?
    In the 7-minute fuzz, the input comes from a positive wire from the female input jack to a 2.2uf cap, which in turn connects to the negative of the transistor, the base. Does anyone know how to answer the input and output when you already have the basic fuzz circuit assembled?

    This design is sensible to the output impedance of the guitar / pedal before it. To overcome this problem you could add a buffer before the tone control.
    It is sensible in the way that the filter will behave differently depending on the impedance of the signal source.

    The only thing I don't understand is... Your logs one and two are connected, so 5nf is always on. You are editing base but treble is always 5nf 100%, right? Potentiometer is not controlling treble, base only. Please confirm.

      Boris Fogelson that is correct. Basically, it has 5 nF always on, and adds in the 100nF in parallel at different amounts based on the position of the pot.

    I'm getting great tone from using either 47uf or 17uf on the output. Instead of the 100uf and it gives very good Mid and Treble tones to the pedal. Fuzz/dirt control on the emitter gives overdrive to fuzz sounds.
    Really enjoying making them and changing the circuit.

    can i use "tone pot" with only one capacitor? without blending with second one.
    if i use 2uF and 200K Pot, i solder Pot's lugs 1+2 and solder them to the Input and lug 3 to the 2uF cap - will it filter the Tone from bass to treble with increasing Pot's resistance?

      Yaroslav Ra technically it can work with one capacitor, but the reason for the second capacitor is to block DC voltage. If you remove that capacitor, and there is DC voltage on either side (i.e. if it comes immediately before/after a transistor, op amp, etc) then using only one capacitor would allow that voltage through. Also, fwiw, a 2uF capacitor is probably overkill, unless maybe you are designing a bass pedal, and even then it would only work as the second capacitor, with a much smaller one connected to 1 and 2.

    So what’s your opinion on using the box film capacitors I always see you using to using the regular green polyester film cap you see on Amazon?

      Hey Dave, both work just fine. I used to use "greenies" all the time however their physical dimensions tend to explode at the >100nf mark. Also most layouts are designed for box type. Either will work as intended though. Cheers

      Solomon Oh basically, the range would go from 5nF-105nF to 100nF-5nF. This is because the way the potentiometer is wired, which keeps the top capacitor always on and slowly adds in the bottom one.

    how would I go about adding a mids control to a plexitone circuit any advice is appreciated

      Jesse Belanger if you go to this website ( chasingtone.com/yourguitaramp/guide-to-single-knob-tone-controls/ ) they show a bunch of tone controls, at the bottom are mids. As to where you should put it, I'd recommend experimenting. A mids control before gain reduces the amount available (especially when cutting mids), but it has a different effect than putting one after the gain.

    Thanks, Paul! I am wondering, you suggest a 100K tone pot (I assume linear?)... what difference does it make to use a 250K/500K/1M etc?

      Hey, yep Linear. Not totally sure to be honest I haven't messed around with other values. It could have an effect on the input impedance, I usually see 100k used for this type of control.
