Racing Made Easy helps sailors realize that it’s easy and fun to try recreational sailboat racing. In this video I explain the most basic rules applications so you can enjoy racing today and have fun with minimal rules knowledge. The majority of the racers that I introduce to sailboat racing didn’t envision themselves as competitive sailboat racers, but joined the fleet for a casual beer can race and immediately realized that recreational racing can be as simple as having fun with friends and getting a little better each time you go out.
Getting Started provides insight on how to approach sailboat racing and get the most from this video series. I also help you better navigate rules conversations on and off the water as a beginning to intermediate sailboat racer. Rules conversations should be constructive and looked at a great opportunity to build or reinforce your knowledge over a cold beverage on shore.
Next, we’ll review the common rules applications and discuss basic tactical considerations in each of the key areas of the course, including the starting line, windward mark, leeward mark, and finish line. As I mentioned in the Getting Started video, I don’t want to put you to sleep by reading rules to your verbatim. However, I do highlight which rules and definitions I’m referencing so you can pause the videos and dig into the rules and better follow along.
Finally, I’ll prepare you for the Protest Room should you ever find yourself in a rules disagreement that you can’t work out the water or on shore. Hopefully this never happens, but at least you will be prepared should that day come.
Hope to see you on the starting line! Please comment below if you have any questions or have opinions or thoughts you’d like to share.

Great video! Best walk through I have come across. Some of these were a little too fast for me though. Had me rewinding to watch again (and again) to figure out what was going on at times!
