I've owned a 2nd hand 2020 CB500X for about a year and a half now. It's my daily commute to work and I've also taken it on a 3,500 KM road trip and a ton of gravel roads. Have always been very pleased how in handles just about any situation. As far as the slipper clutch is concerned, I hardly ever use it and much more prefer to use the clutch handle for engine control.
One of the great things about it, (as it's an adventure bike) , is the instrument mounting bar behind the wind screen. It's a perfect mount for either a Quad Lock or in my case, a Garmin ZumoXT2. My CB500X came fitted with Rally Raid lv2 suspension kit, which really helps to smooth out the big bumps and keep the rear wheel planted just right.
So far I've ridden it 12,000Kms and hopefully with regular oil and filter changes it should be good for another 100,000Ks.
I'm averaging about 4.1 liters per 100KM, (52 fill ups) but I do like to twist the throttle pretty hard sometimes. 😁

well i might go that way too. notice in the clip how the video was nice view to start and near the end it was just more tank.
well i was battling very strong winds and that wind was hitting me right in the eyes /sunglasses from the open face helmet with external mic
so i had to lay over the tank to avoid as much wind hitting the mic asi could and wiping out the clip.
once back home i lost maybe 2/3rds of the footage so it was more a salvage job but i think i crawled in with it in the end

Excellent review of an all around really good bike. For the price, this one is hard to beat, I would think. I am thinking of either this or the CRF 300 Rally, as I am coming back to riding after decades away, and I'll probably go the Rally just because it is lighter and probably an easier bike on which to develop riding skills, but boy the 500x is sure tempting!

Totally agree about this bike. I had a 2019 CB500X and the only negative was the buffeting to the head from the windshield, which i guess can be fixed with a deflector. I’m getting a Tiger 900 for two up gentle touring, but other than that one of these do it. Great fuel economy too. Cheers and happy new year from a chilly, wet and windy UK.

hard choice but i've had 3 of these and i think they are a pretty good bikes. you could ride it anywhere within reason and it will do all you ask of it trouble free and on the cheap too.

gearshifter is a little off set but no more than a 650 interceptor and you can get aftermarket for that.

Hello Warro, good review. I'm seriously thinking of trading in my 650Versys for a new CB500X. I'm getting long in the tooth (70+) and i like the fact that the CB500X is relativley light (440 lbs) compared to my Versys and my previous Vstroms, makes it much easier to wheel around in the garage. From your video I think you mentioned you were 5' 9" and you were geeting some wind into your face. I'm just about 6 feet and it's a peeve of mind that almost any bike you buy needs to have a bigger after market windshield fitted. Thanks for the information, lovely day on Christmas eve, take care.

@@ridewithwarro Now that is insane! ALL THAT BIKE for only 2k more?!? Now I see why so many folks raised issue about the CT pricing down there. Its $3,100 dollars more here. Which still isn't too terribly bad considering what you get. Speaking of what you get, Honda-Claus let me down 🥺👎 no CT125 under my tree. So much for my dealership saying "Hopefully December". I even called another larger dealership in the next town and inquired and heck, they weren't even taking pre-orders and had zero clue of when they would be getting one. I'm disappointed but expected as much. Im just going to keep socking the money away so I will just pay it off in full upon arrival. Grateful I have my Monkey and XT250 to keep me company. CB500X. It is 471cc parallel twin vs 373cc thumper. The price is very similar. I've seen both with under $7k on the road. Weights are also very similar. I was looking into maybe trading my 2017 cbx for it because it is lil taller and I thought little lighter but, cbx is so much more bike for the price. Not to mention bad ktm rep for quality and reliability.

The best I've seen ktm 390 adv was for $6000+tax+fin fee. I didn't get exact quote but, that would round up to $6700 since that dealer lists destination and prep in sticker price. I've also seen some very good deals on v-strom 650, tracer 900 and few other. It is all matter of timing (rebates) and looking around. Its not actually heavy as it is quite big (for a 470cc bike). It fits my 197cm (6'6") body quite OK with no extras. And is really well balanced. When it starts rolling, even with 5km/h, you feel like you're on a lighter bike. Its one of the bikes I can keep my feet on the pegs up to the last moment when stopped, and some times I just do a track stand without any foot down.
