i think what op was trying to say is that the lyrics imply that it's more of a romantic love, making it difficult to understand that the video fits more in with the BFU (bangtan fictional universe) and the lack of self-love for the characters without knowing the full fictional universe before hand.

I didn't realize most of them were in right now! I haven't really listened to Kpop in years. I was OBSESSED from 14 to 21 years old, and slowly stopped listening to Kpop. DBSK was my fave and SUJU and SNSD, KARA, and older groups like Fly to the Sky, H.O.T and NRG etc. So we are very happy to be listening to the new generation Kpop! So far we have not been let down :)

I really enjoyed your reaction to this MV. There are seven stories, one for each member. All of their albums are connected with the same theme of truly loving yourself. If you watch the highlight reels it will give you a large part of the back story to help you understand better.
These guys are amazing...they are telling a series of stories over 4 albums (the newest one releasing on the 24th) so there is tons of symbolism and stories being told through their videos. Go back and start at the beginning. It's really genius. Each album has a theme revolving about love...this album is about if you can't love yourself you can't love someone else and there are different stages of love this one being about the sad part of love. It's actually musical genius. And these guys write and produce their own music. They are different from most KPOP because they address controversial topics like social acceptance, anxiety, depression, mental illness, suicide, acceptance. Their motto is Love Myself Love Yourself.

I've been doing research on them for over a year, so if y'all have any questions, let me know. I know just about everything there is to know about these boys. They write their own music, lyrics, and J-Hope (the boy laying on the Snicker Bars) does a lot of their choreography. There are two who rap, three who sing, and two that sing AND rap. One plays a guitar, one plays the sax and guitar, two who play the piano and yet they remain very humble and consider the ARMY (their fandom - which has hundreds of millions of members) the eighth member of the band. All their videos are epic and contain innuendo. For example, in Fake Love where V is standing in what looks like a domed hallway with flashing rectangle lights, you'll see a door where it says "Save me." Yes, BTS's music videos are interconnected with a larger story that bind them all together. I recommend starting with 'I NEED U 19+ version' - this MV started off their storyline first, after that there's a very specific order you have to watch the MV's in.

Fun fact, the effects you saw here were not done in post-production. The fire was real, but for Suga's safety, the fire and him were shot separately. Jimin was filmed while the water flooded in and the floor really was falling when Jungkook was running. As for BTS' videos, most of them (all, imho, but some more than others) are connected to a storyline that's been progressing for years. This video is full of symbolism connected to the storyline, each member and their room representing their fears or trauma. For example, Jhope was in the room full of carnival stuff and Snickers bc in the storyline his mom used to give him the chocolate when he was sad or was a good child but then she abandoned him in a Carnival, leaving him there with a Snickers bar.

By the way, the one you reacted Fake Love was the title song of their newest album Love Yourself-Tear w/c reflect a lot of symbolism like fire, water, snicker bars, the flower at the beginning, etc. w/c is a part of a long storyline. BTS started a music narratives that connects all of their albums since 2015. They play 7 characters of themselves in their music narrative universe and it tells the story of these boys going from childhood to adulthood and all the pain and struggles they have to face. It covers a lot of sensitive topics that young people have to face that society especially their country rarely talks about like depression, drug abuse, mental illness, domestic violence and even suicide. Member Jimin said that “To put it simply, if ‘Blood Sweat & Tears’ (previous song on Wings album) was an expression of pitiful sorrow, then ‘Fake Love’ puts an even more heartbreaking twist on that emotion". Also, the song is basically about not being honest to oneself and others, putting on a front of strength to cover your weaknesses and how this dishonesty can make the love you have for another person inherently dishonest as well, therefore “Fake Love". As RM (BTS leader) said that if your not true to yourself, your love won't last. Sorry for a long explanation but that explained a bit of what the song/mv is all about. I didn't realize most of them were in right now! I haven't really listened to Kpop in years. I was OBSESSED from 14 to 21 years old, and slowly stopped listening to Kpop. DBSK was my fave and SUJU and SNSD, KARA, and older groups like Fly to the Sky, H.O.T and NRG etc. So we are very happy to be listening to the new generation Kpop! So far we have not been let down :)

These guys are amazing...they are telling a series of stories over 4 albums (the newest one releasing on the 24th) so there is tons of symbolism and stories being told through their videos. Go back and start at the beginning. It's really genius. Each album has a theme revolving about love...this album is about if you can't love yourself you can't love someone else and there are different stages of love this one being about the sad part of love. It's actually musical genius. And these guys write and produce their own music. They are different from most KPOP because they address controversial topics like social acceptance, anxiety, depression, mental illness, suicide, acceptance. Their motto is Love Myself Love Yourself.

Omg! Y'all's reaction was AWESOME!!! I'm sure y'all have listened to other songs by them. If not, you're in for a treat because they've been around for five years. I've been doing research on them for over a year, so if y'all have any questions, let me know. I know just about everything there is to know about these boys. They write their own music, lyrics, and J-Hope (the boy laying on the Snicker Bars) does a lot of their choreography. There are two who rap, three who sing, and two that sing AND rap. One plays a guitar, one plays the sax and guitar, two who play the piano and yet they remain very humble and consider the ARMY (their fandom - which has hundreds of millions of members) the eighth member of the band. All their videos are epic and contain innuendo. For example, in Fake Love where V is standing in what looks like a domed hallway with flashing rectangle lights, you'll see a door where it says "Save me." If you turn it upside down, it says "I'm Fine". The cute boy with the sparkly red jacket is Jungkook who is the youngest member and he just turned 20. So, he was only 15 when BTS debuted their first song. The eldest one at debut was 20. There's Jungkook -20, V and Jimin are 23, RM is 23, J-Hope is 24, and Suga and Jin are 25. They have overcome soooo many obstacles and have worked so hard and it's now paying off. Their concert tickets in America are going for $1000 a piece for crappy seats and upwards of $8000 a ticket for stage front. Just two years ago, they're were virtually unheard of and were with a little known record label. But their label, Big Hit, gave them artistic freedom and since they are so talented, it only makes since that they would be successful. They credit stans (ARMY) for their success. They wrote a song dissing their haters and it's awesome! It's called Mic Drop. Watch the Steve Aoki remix video, tho. And turn on your captions because it's in English. Although the song is more of a love/sentimental song, but it the music video each members are portraying their own fears and traumas and because of those fears they couldn't love themselves. They couldn't accept that the scars created by their past are a part of them so they wanted to hide it behind the mask and they created their wall of temporary happiness which they thought would save them. But that wall only made everything more complicated to the point that it's crashing them. In order to give and receive REAL LOVE from someone they should learn to love themselves first. Fake Love is referring to an inability to love yourself. What I love about BTS is that they rarely sing about romance - they tend to talk about different parts of the human condition. Yes, BTS's music videos are interconnected with a larger story that bind them all together. I recommend starting with 'I NEED U 19+ version' - this MV started off their storyline first, after that there's a very specific order you have to watch the MV's in.

Fun fact, the effects you saw here were not done in post-production. The fire was real, but for Suga's safety, the fire and him were shot separately. Jimin was filmed while the water flooded in and the floor really was falling when Jungkook was running.
As for BTS' videos, most of them (all, imho, but some more than others) are connected to a storyline that's been progressing for years. This video is full of symbolism connected to the storyline, each member and their room representing their fears or trauma. For example, Jhope was in the room full of carnival stuff and Snickers bc in the storyline his mom used to give him the chocolate when he was sad or was a good child but then she abandoned him in a Carnival, leaving him there with a Snickers bar.

What I'm guessing is the lyrics are about them hiding their true self to e with someone and the MV is like They're trapped with Fake Love because they're trapped with their fears. J-Hope and the snickers, snickers are his fear because when his mother left him at an amusement park as a child and left him a snickers. Also as older army (BTS' fandom name), it's debatable how much earlier groups like Big Bang, Super Junior, etc really impacted or spurred BTS' global success. Just as you both know of older groups, many army were introduced to kpop through BTS and found out about the second and first generation groups later. Also many army are not fans of other groups or artists within the kpop genre for a variety of reasons.
To answer your question, Big Bang did have a big impact in multiple countries and for the genre as a whole however the bulk of their success is more Eastern whereas BTS' is more Western. Speaking strictly as a US army, BTS has made the bigger impact here as their albums have been steadily climbing the charts since 2015.
