We really need to reopen mental asylums. This would also cut down greatly on the homeless situation.
These institutions were closed for a reason. Historically, individuals were forced or coerced into treatment or involuntary commitment, where caregivers and "doctors" acted as both judges and jailers. The primary purposes of these institutions were to isolate individuals from society and provide so-called "treatment," often involving unethical and unscientific experiments, as well as mental, physical, and sexual abuse. These horrific experiences not only failed to alleviate mental illness but also exacerbated it, while exploiting and harming people of all ages. The conditions were so deplorable that many of these buildings were eventually abandoned or demolished. It is deeply saddening and disheartening to learn about the immense suffering endured by thousands of individuals during the era of asylums.
@@rtsreplays2458 So the whole must suffer? I cant let my kid walk to school because there is a group of fentanyl addicts who live on the bridge. They literally live on the bridge. I watched them shoot up while a cop watched from the opposing lane. The true mental illness is the liberal ideology that makes us all deal with the problem in perpetuity with no solution. Sanitariums are far more humane than making people live on the street and depend on the state for survival. Alcoholics in Alaska blame the warming centers being closed for them losing fingers to frost bite, and not the fact they are homeless and addicts.
See if there is an opening for an internet troll Tom-zs6bb. 🚪
Allow me to clarify my previous post. Use the amount of force in proportion to the threat.
A woman with a knife against two male cops in body armor with tazers do not have to use 9 mm hand guns to subdue her.
To Serve and "Protect" also includes someone having a bad day.
Exactly? Why does every situation cause our police to use deadly force? Why do they have to shoot to kill? There are many places one can shoot and take someone down without killing them. That's the only thing i'm not getting.......
Exactly
"To Serve and "Protect" also includes someone having a bad day."
That slogan has absolutely nothing to do with this shooting.
"A woman with a knife against two male cops in body armor with tazers do not have to use 9 mm hand guns to subdue her."
Our friends on the left would undoubtedly find that to be extremely sexist.
The fact of the matter is that anyone of any description can and has killed law enforcement officers. Historically, it's an equal opportunity activity.
And every time you post a comment, you're ignorance of the subject matter is on display for all.
Agree. This scenario is troublesome, and the shooting is questionable. The "21-foot rule", used in training for justified force against a knife attack, applies. This means that someone with a knife, "running" toward police, could cover about 21 feet before officers unholster their gun(s) and fire. The woman was 30' away (according to the news), walking slowly (not running) with the knife overhead, and the officer guns were already drawn. Please note the traffic on the roadway just behind the woman and directly in the line of fire also.
I have considerable respect for Law Enforcement. However, this incident needs closer scrutiny.
@@SniffaThumb "The "21-foot rule", used in training for justified force against a knife attack, applies."
Where can I go to look up the 'rule?'
"The woman was 30' away (according to the news), walking slowly (not running) with the knife overhead, and the officer guns were already drawn."
If the news account is correct, is there a problem with them having their weapons drawn?
I really think this could have been handled differently
So she calls 911 and asks for help because she was worried she was going to kill someone. She told them she was declared insane.
Rather than shoot her in the legs the police ALWAYS aim head and chest. So many times, just like this case, they could have used non lethal means or shot her in the legs.
The poor woman called 911 asking for help and instead gets killed.
Tasers, sandbag bullets, hand to hand with a woman?
Did not have to kill her never trust law enforcement ever they are not your friend they don't know their job or who they work for
OKI have no problem with the deputies defending themselves at all.And if she wouldn't have gun I could have seen it but why do they have to shoot to kill, She had a knife he didn't have to shoot to kill her.He could have wounded her in her knees. That's what I don't get!
Well you don't understand the strength or power of a mental patient. As a Paramedic, we had to deal with patient take downs all the time w/o a gun.
These big bad cops with body armor get to shoot first, ask questions later. A tazer may or may not affected this patient. But it would've been worth a try.
Com'on Sheriff, you're a Christian man, and you know better. Your people followed their training to the letter. Maybe the training is flawed?
She was calling for help. And they knew her circumstances before arriving.

@@Patrick-yh5yd "she stabbed them" being the whole point.
_"Doesn't make no sense."_ Yeah, those double negatives make your comment more true than you intended.
Why wasnt an stun gun used?
Thank you for your report.
The theory about using a taser is that it's not always effective, sometimes only one goes in, sometimes neither one goes in, and the distance she had on them made it so they'd have to wait until she got close enough and roll the dice that nothing would go wrong, I don't know about anybody else but I wouldn't take that chance, at the end of the day I'm sure we all feel the same way which is if it's going to be me or you, it's going to be you every time, right? "You" is the person attempting to hurt an innocent person for context.
The realities of mental illness especially in this side of town is quite sad 😢 God bless; this is an unfortunate loss for her family and for the deputies involved 🙏🏾
Doesn't matter what side of town. Pasco County is just all together a strange place to live. Holiday, jasmine lakes neighborhood infested with rats. Ughh rural Florida. Become a hostile shite place to live. Now the police will shoot ya dead too.

@user-pw4kw3ro6i- It would have been nice if that were reality. That was a deadly force situation. In simplistic terms, rock paper scissors. Yes they did. She would have stabbed them. Should they have waited to see?
Someone said you reap what you sow explain that with this situation.
What happened with the taser and why when the police have a knife, when people have a knife, they don't start shooting at the feet, they always have to kill the person.
Several years ago, my ex boyfriend was in his home in North Miami, waving a knife around in his home.. unfortunately, the police shot & killed him too .. I didn’t any officers in danger. If she stab’s herself, then what? I’ll never understand what we just seen
She started to run at the officers, so the 21 foot rule was implemented on the lady. It's a bad deal, but people need to remember that if you try and attack another person, you will face problems.
@@Randyphx There is no such thing as a 21 foot rule. Years ago a Sergeant with the Salt Lake City Police Department, Dennis Tueller, demonstrated that from 21 feet, human response time prevented most people from effectively defending themselves from a close quarter attacks.
@@Tom-zs6bb Isnt that what the 21 foot rule is? That anyone in 21 feet or less from you makes it lethal? Your disagreeing but saying the same thing it seems. She closed the 21 feet so he had to shoot because he would not be able to react to her actions from that point on, thus the lethal shots. Am I wrong or missing something?
@@boulderingbadger6179 "Isnt that what the 21 foot rule is?"
It is not a rule. It's not codified into law, nor is that distance an absolute.
@@Tom-zs6bb The rule or training is that a person within 21 ft is dangerous to a person with a gun. What in the world is going on. People are crazy.
God is GREAT, Beer is good, and people are crazy"
FINALLY, SOMEONE RECOGNIZING THAT THEY ARE INSANE.
We used to have people like this in mental institutions. Then in the 80's Geraldo ran a series called Willowbrook and everyone decided all these people belonged on the street and no one should be made to take meds if they didn't want to. Now our streets look like they do and people are dying all the time. There is also a huge rise in crime and drug use, and I think much of it is because people are self-medicating, and it is easy because the borders are being held open by both parties no matter what they say. We have what we voted for and we have it because people have accepted it as society. In the 50's and 60's we had safe streets and no one accepted this.
So uneccessary
Yes
The deputies could have used less lethal alternatives at the distance they were in. I disagree that she had to have been killed. Where was the taser? Oh that's right left on their gun belt knowing the distance away and the knife in hand.
Just saying the tasers
They probably did a mag dump too
Not LE's job to make it home safe at night, it is to "protect" and serve. There was no immediate threat to justify unaliving an insane woman.
"There was no immediate threat to justify unaliving an insane woman."
Would it have been justified had the attacker been a man? Or a woman who was not 'insane?'
"Protect and serves" what a joke, maybe property,or buildings, people are for target practice.
@@jeffsemon1774 That's interesting. Tell me, how would you defend yourself from such an attack?
@@Tom-zs6bb First...don't run in (in 30 seconds) and kill someone. Make better decisions. Bring in someone who knows how to deal with a person like this. And don't kill the person! Disable them. Train people to better handle situations like this!
@@romanz3423 Okay, let's unpack this bonanza of idiocy.
"First...don't run in (in 30 seconds) and kill someone."
No one 'ran' in and killed anyone. Deputied responded to the scene and the bodycam video depicts the situation they encountered. The woman was the person who controlled the timing. All the deputies could do is respond to the threat, or do you think the public would have been better served had they got back in their cars and drove away?
" Make better decisions."
What of his decisions needed to be 'better,' and what alternatives would suggest? How would you defend yourself against a similar attack?
"Bring in someone who knows how to deal with a person like this."
Of all the nonsense you posted, I think this is my second favorite. To what 'someone' do you refer? From where would that person respond? How would you have got the woman to wait for that 'someone?' What do you suggest that 'someone' do to prevent the woman from attacking the deputy?
"And don't kill the person! Disable them." And of all your comments, this is my favorite.
I would again ask you what you would do in the deputy's place? The woman was most certainly within 21 feet of the deputy or closing to that distance when he fired so your 'rule' would have applied, right? It's a rule, right?
How do you propose they could have disabled her? What means as reliable as a firearm would have enabled the deputies to disable her? Are we closing in on the part where you say they should have shot her in the leg or deployed a TASER? Have you ever heard the term Continuum of Force?
"Train people to better handle situations like this!"
To what training do you refer? What knowledge, what skill did the deputies lack?
This is the point where I usually recommend to someone who doesn't understand what he criticizes to suit up, take the oath, and show us the right way to do the job. In your case, that wouldn't be a good thing. No amount of education, training, and experience would be enough to overcome your level of voluntary ignorance.

They had 30 seconds to de-escalate? how long does it take to pull a taser? how long does it take to fire a warning shot into the ground? Police have always had the motto 'to protect and serve' not in pasco, the motto there is 'We Fight As One' and I think that says it all...
TASERs and other less lethal responses are inappropriate to counter deadly force.
I agree completely. Pasco motto is stupid. Most police departments the motto is "to protect and serve". In Pasco county they prefer to fight.
@@romanz3423 It's not stupid, as if that metric would even apply. "To serve and to protect" was originally an exclusive motto displayed on LAPD marked cars. A few other agencies adopted it, or a version thereof, but in no way do "most" police departments use it.

Another result of the Community Mental Health Act of 1963, passed as part of John F. Kennedy's New Frontier, established a system of community-based care, instead of institutional care, across the U.S. for people with mental illness.
the act was not able to sustain itself because funding was cut both on a state and federal level. Today, the three largest mental health providers in the United States are jails.
Blame Reagan. I always do.
Wrong blame democrats, they didn't want to fund. @johnwick1883
It appears that there is a concerning pattern of behavior among certain police officers, who frequently resort to using lethal force, particularly affecting young women and girls. These officers often fail to deploy non-lethal alternatives such as tasers even when circumstances permit. Moreover, there is an observable trend of these individuals shielding one another from accountability in instances where their actions may constitute misconduct.
