@Mikko - taking a phrase from the tune is such a solid approach to creating your own solo over any tune. All the greats have used this approach. Thanks for emphasizing this approach.

I was one of the many people that asked for a video about playing over Infant Eyes.😉 Great suggestions which are very helpful. Good idea playing stacked 4ths (& their inversions) and other intervalic structures over the root and 5ths. I find this type of tune to be very impressionistic sounding... like a tone painting...(?) Thank you for persisting, Miko. The thing I like about your jazz playing is that everything you do is logical and precise. What I mean by this is that there are players who go very fast through changes, as in a solo chord melody piece such as your "Skylark," but they seem to be sloppier. Even Tal Farlow can sound "sloppy" to me, but I forgive him because I get the sense that he is "chasing" his musical ideas, and his technique has a hard time keeping up with those ideas. With you, I sense that you do not let your ideas overshadow what you are doing with technique. The ideas you have are always expressed clearly, and I like that. Also, guessing from what you are saying in this video and others, is that you have an extremely "good ear," in other words, an "ear/brain" which is able to instantly distinguish and interpret harmonic phenomena: roots, thirds, fifths and sevenths of chords, roots, root movement, chord progression, chord color. This results in a very pleasing effect for me; which is a harmonic, sensual jazz style, by ear not theory, an approach I aspire to as well. Jazz is weird, in that there are so many approaches to it. Your approach appeals very much to me. Your intelligence is also why you are such a great teacher; I first got turned on to you by your discussion of Nicholas Slonimsky's Thesaurus of Scales, and how these could be turned into real musical ideas to be played with. I hope you feel good when you read this, because you really are doing something very valuable for us guitar players.

as im going though the video for some reason a G# diminished scale is sounding best to me over the Ab9, kind of interesting as its kind of like a Barry Harris thing moving to the F# maj that comes after it in the tune. weird that the scale im using doesn't have in A in it though but its not very hard on the ears
I kind of think of this as being in the key of Bb, G is the relative minor, F is like a I b7 that leads to the Eb but I make the Eb lydian to get that color shift back to regular Bb

yo mikko! great video, noticed you are using the attack cutoff sound here. I have been trying to replicate that, using the POG 2. How do you compensate the latency? I tried multiple Compressors and it just wouldn't work. do you already have a video on this? if not, would be interesting if you made one or could give me a quick tip. greetings from germany! :)

I've been snooping around for it and I can only find physical copies going for insane prices (several hundreds of dollars last I checked) Also this is Bob Jones from the Spain video i think, (burner account, who would name their kid that lamo.) Anyways, after a year of waiting on med waivers and the pandemic, and switching branches twice (passed 3 different auditions), I am now a professional guitarist in the US Army. With the funds and benefits this allows me I will be able to pursue alot of personal music projects. Maybe I'll reach out when I have the time with my non gaming related actual RUclips account lol. I don't always comment, but I always appreciate what you do. thanks

ive also heard people sub the G for a d minor sound, kind of makes that Ab in the melody stick out a bit more w that minor 3rd move in the bass

Natural 13, flat 9 is SCREAMING diminished. But altered should work too just not as well (b/c of the 13th)
