- I went to check out Basingstoke Country Hotel part of the Britannia hotel chain that’s been voted for the 11th time In the row as the worst hotel chains.
But was this hotel really as bad a Trip Advisor say? I went to check out this worst-rated hotel.

For first 6 or 7 minutes I kept waiting for the “but” ? Everything looked ace, must be a but any minute. Great video 😊 Oh and yes ginger biscuits all the way!
Hey Charlie, yeah honestly, I thought the hotel wasn't too bad. I've stayed in worse. And this was quite cosy other than a few marks here and there. But I guess with so many rooms, you're bound to get some bad ones for sure! Ginger biscuits indeed! 🍪
I have some worse hotels lined up, genuinely afraid of a few of them lol 😆
@@Journeywithmatt look forward to the really bad ones Matt! I’ll watch with one eye open!!
I never realized how much I took a hairdryer for granted until there wasn't one (looking at you travelodge windsor). Any biscuits at all are a bit of a bonus tbh
Biscuits for the win! Ha
When you first walked into the room it looked ok till you had a good look around needs a repaint and new carpet which looks its been replaced in the public areas biscuits in a Britannia that is a surprise 😮. 🍻
Biscuits were a goof surprise for sure! Yeah, I agree John :)
You like saying 'happy days'! 🤣
Hope you enjoyed your stay 🖖
It’s my catchphrase most of the time lol, or lovely 😂🙈
@@Journeywithmattthese days are yours and my happy days.
@@andrewt836 goodbye grey skies - hello blue! 🤣
Double bed bases are in 2 sections because you’d never get them in a room. The toilet flush handle is missing a wood surround and the metal nut that goes on the end. As for the lights….. great video though and a nice hotel. The Britannia group have some amazingly beautiful hotels but they’re tired and worn out. They’re obviously making an effort to sort the hundreds of rooms out but it’s going to take a very long time and cost a fortune.
Ah makes sense! Thank you :) appreciate it. They have a lot of them, planning to see them all. Large hotels, can imagine it's a lot to maintain.
Definitely better than some other Britannia hotels I've seen on video. Older buildings like this are hard to keep maintained, but the flaws are minor, and I wouldn't be afraid to spend the night there. From what we've seen here it doesn't deserve bad reviews.
Hey, I agree with you. I found this hotel quite homely compared to others I've stayed in. I think it's all depended on the room you're given. But the staff were really friendly.
This place is about a mile away from where mother lives! Ive always fancied a look when i visit her as i live in Coventry!
It's not too bad looking i think, maybe a bit dated!
I've always wanted to stay in a Britannia hotel but the booking website says I'd need photo ID, but I don't drive nor go abroad lol
Yeah, you need an Id. I'm not sure if you can use a passport though.
@@Journeywithmatt I'd probably have to try my back card and a letter with my name and national insurance number on, I don't have a passport or driving licence lol
UK hotels should stop using the carpeted floors in rooms. I prefer the European style wood or imitated wood. Its easier to clean. The carpet is dirty and disgusting.
100% agree with you. I love the laminated flooring in Italy.
Hi mate seen lots and lots worse hotels than this do u ever come up north for a hotel reviews please
yeah, this one wasn't too bad! Yup, planning Manchester for the two Britanias, London as some awful ones, and Blackpool/Liverpool :)
Hope having a good week Andy
Not bad for a Britannia hotel at all
Other than the carpet, it was ok! :)
Hope having a good weekend John 💪
