- Spirits and Ghosts and the Seven Layers of Existence, by Paramahamsa Nithyananda Swami. Spirits and ghosts are the troubled souls who committed suicide. They can never harm us, because they are a lower level species: to human existence there are seven layers, a ghost or spirit only has three. The only harm they can do is to frighten you, but they cannot enter, touch, hurt or harm you. The only thing we can do to relieve a spirit or ghost, is to offer shradda for their completion. With that help, they move to the peaceful waiting lounge before moving on to the next body.

He meant to say spirits can serve us but not harm us. It means it can help, not do the work as in a literal sense. It is up to one's interpretation of what he said - to move objects vs help us in life and not harm us
What I understood in this sutsung in ghosts are a lower level species they can't harm you they can only appear to and ask for a help

Dear Nithyanda, I enjoy your wisdom and instructions very much, I think you are a great being coming to help humanity, at least in my opinion that is. You are so young and so powerful in what you are doing, I really envy you, as this has been my lifelong dream to have that kind of presence with people. However there is one thing that I don't understand, how it is that many of the awakened Ones all become overweight, and my question is why are they doing this to themselves? With all my love and respect I still want to see you reach a very high age and lead many more of our young children to awakening, hence my concern for you. Lovely explaination. I was botherthered by ghosts for some time and realised that all they wanted is help with liberation. I told one to reveal themself to me when I was having a nap and I saw who she was and I thanked her and said ok you can go on now and she floated away.

Great clarity given by Swamiji on Spirits .. Ghosts can not harm humans because they only have 3 layers of existence compare to humans who have 7 layers of existence. Ghosts can only appear in front of you and make you frightened.. Because of fear, if someone is harmed, it is totally his stupidity. What a clarity Swamiji gives to lead a fearless life.. Gratitude.

More clarity on who we are
This answers so many questions about ghosts and possessions by demons. The truth as revealed in Hinduism is that they can never possess, harm or disturb you in anyway unless you decide to become frightened. Wow!
Wow, I had an experience once where it felt like a ghost was entering into me and I got so frightened, but good to know now that that can never ever happen! Really interesting to know why ghosts exist. "Ghosts are a lower level species". Right from an enlightened master, good to know the real truth about ghosts!

My pranaam to Swami-ji. Swami-ji stated that ghosts can appear or "move things" but other than that cannot harm you. So this is where my question arises. If a ghost can move things then that means they can touch you or move things in your way. Would that not be termed as "harm"? My apologies if I have misunderstood Swami-ji 's explanation. I have experienced an incident which also makes me curious. I also believe that when Swami-ji states ghosts can do no harm then that is the eternal truth. I seek clarification.
