magazine.reallusion.com/2024/... Cartoonist and animator Garry Pye achieved a remarkable feat with Cartoon Animator, producing a full 2D animated film in just 14 days!
Without the need for a large budget or a team of artists and animators, Garry needed the right animation software that would allow him to complete the entire project himself, from art to animation. Showing along the way his tips and tricks on how to level up your 2D animations like a professional.
"I wanted to challenge myself to bring my story to life, from concept to finished animation," says Garry. His primary goal was not merely to use the tools of Cartoon Animator but to leverage them to craft professional-level animation.

It can't be emphasized enough how quickly, quality animated shorts can be made in Cartoon Animator. More importantly it's just fun to tinker around in, mixing and matching things from your content library, whether its art you've created or art you've purchased from Reallusion's stores. Great work Garry. This video really showcases the software incredibly well.
Again... Garry Pye goes above and beyond the boundaries of what us novice CA5 users could ever imagine, and he does it in a way that encourages us to broaden our expectations of what WE can do on our own.
He reveals the potential of CA5, revealing its advanced features in a "you can do this too", non threatening way.
Bravo Garry... I'm pumped!
Garry Pye and CA5 are a winning combination for all animators.
Garry's passion for quality animation inspires all of us to improve our CA5 animations.
Wow this is amazing work, Garry! I'm a 3D guy, but this seriously makes me want to get back into 2D.
As always, brilliant. I love this animation and thanks so much Garry for showing us this behind the scenes. I always learn so much from your videos, Thanks Garry!
Disney quality ❤ well done Garry, always impressive. Cartoon animator will soon be the best 2D software.🎉
Garry always shares the best tips with Cartoon Animator!

Love Garry's energy and the sharing of he made this video with Cartoon Animator!
A perfect video to show how can we use some tricks to make the 2D animation look like 3D animation!! It’s really inspired me a lot!
Thanks Garry for sharing so much with us. This is a great overview on your workflow in producing animations, while also showing off the features of Cartoon Animator 5 and the special capabilities with your creations. You do creative work with appealing characters and storytelling!
Thanks Garry forgiving us a look at moving the body around in a 360° map. I always like to learn something from your videos
Amazing work as always. Gary Pye is a master of his craft with CTA 5.
Thank you! I’m so excited to try these tips in my own work!
This is an excellent tutorial. So many great tips and techniques. I would love to see more like this. Thanks Garry!
Gary is an extremely talented artist with a uniquely distinct cartoonist style. I've always admired the abilities and characters of some of the illustrators from the old Mad Magazine issues, especially Don Martin. Gary's characters have that unique style and watching him animate and explain his process is amazing!
Thanks for making my day with these videos showing your process!
Brilliant information. Looking forward to putting it into practice!
A comprehensive overview of the many possibilities in CTA5. Once again very informative.
Great video Garry! Informative and definitely inspirational !
Thanks Garry, he has helped me improve my project, wine next time not beer, lol
This is inspirational! 🎉
Quite a bit of info taught in such a short time- would be awesome to take some chapters of this and make some more comprehensive tutorials for a more in depth dive to the power of CA. Garry's one on one classes tackles this so brilliantly for the artist and well worth the money and time to invest in these.
YES! I agree, I would love to have more in-depth tutorials on how to do this. Where can I get those 1-on-1 classes with Garry? Have you taken some?
Animation brings life to ideas and emotions, and no one can bring that life better than a combination reallusion Cartoon Animator and Garry Pye. Great great informative video !!!
How was the background made?
Wonderful work! Newbie question: You mention that it is better to break a longer animation into smaller files. How many files was your video? What is the advantage? Wouldn’t it be better to keep the entire animation in one file? Especially one like yours that is about 90 seconds. That way, wouldn’t it be easier to ensure all the characters and props remain in alignment and the correct position.
This video ended up about 4 project files only from memory. The advantage is, the file size for your overal project is in smaller, more manageable chunks, meaning you dont have to load the whole project to work on it, and in the event of a computer crash, you dont lose as much of your work. I never have probelsm with setting up my characters in the right position for each shot.

Hello
More a text book than a video. I can see I'll be making a dozen views for continued reference before all Garry's info infiltrates my thick skull.
Add Ai into the software
No doubt artificial intelligence will be used to enhance and speed up the animation process with Cartoon Animator eventually. As it is, the computer already does all the in between frames for you, so we're kind of already on the path.
