    I believe Sparky Lyle also mentioned the "demolition derby " story in his book "The Bronx Zoo". Sparky also said that Mickey would upstage Reggie Jackson when they got into verbal battles in the clubhouse.

    Trading Rivers in 1979 and letting Jackson walk after 81 were devastating 😔 to me as a young boy, but not as devastating as it was for the Yankees. Had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with Mick and Roy White a few years ago, 2 of the nicest guys I’ve ever met.

      I hated when they let Roy go. Chambliss and Tidrow too.

    • @natch27
      @natch27 Год назад +2

      1979 was such a lost year with Rivers and Chambliss leaving and losing Thurman.
      Surprisingly the 1980 Yanks won 103 games with Bob Watson and Rick Cerone having solid years. Mickey had a good year at the plate for Texas and was much better than Rupert Jones who wilted playing in NY.
      However Mick’s legs were betraying him by this time and his 18 stolen bases was the last time he would surpass double digits.
