Wow! I'm a fan. Today is March 18 2021, I just watched my first Iditarod, and now I'm following Dallas. A great musher and a man not afraid to share his secrets, his methods. I'm in Australia and know absolutely nothing about mushing, but a lot about working dogs, trained a lot of kelpies for sheep work. They all love what they do and hard to stop, but when the penny drops they're doing it for YOU, then you've got a great dog. I saw the leaders look back, coming in to camp, and he pointed, they swung into camp perfectly. Leaving after a rest, they're not baying and howling and straining to go, wasting energy, until he's been along every one with a pat, and asked each if he was ready to go, then onto the sled and they're off. I stand in awe!
I was a volunteer the first year that Dallas raced when he was just 18. So sorry that this has happened. We've been to the kennels in Seward and know how much they care for their dogs! Good luck Dallas! There are so many fans behind you.
You all prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know a method to log back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot my account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Ray Zander i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thank you for stepping up, Dallas. I can relate to everything you've said. I was appalled that the ITC put the onus of proof on the musher. That policy is undefendable. You have my support. Gordon Castanza, Iditarod '81 and '84.
Super cool video, Dallas! A lot of food for thought. Thank you for sharing alot of the reasons your thinking and strategies for people who want to win!
Im a huge fan... hope he wins his fifth this year... unfortunately Iditarod is not mainstream so i dont get to watch it... thank you reform for posting
Good presentation Dallas. A lot of points made. I have posted elsewhere the possibility that you administered an approved medication that, unknown to you, contained a prohibited substance. OR, an approved drug that gave the same results. Maybe time to question the lab that made the test. What was the chain of custody from the time the blood was drawn and the time it was tested???? The Seavey family is too far above the bar to resort to enhancing substances.
Id say start the dogs slow dont beet them up off the gun because just like when i go roffing and havent roofed in month i dont go in slow like i should and by last day im all beat up instead take your time save energy get your muchells all ready. I saw this mans race he did a good gob and his dad has awsome dogs
No clue, but a wolf would not have the same drive and motivation to please as a hybrid sled dog. Completive sled dogs are not built for heavy hauling or being hunters. They are bred for speed and competition. Again, just guessing.
Wolves have developed a loping speed f That conserves their energy as they travel looking for food. Their set speed , the one you'll get with them, is this slower lope.
The larger dogs always are slower over long distances like the Iditarod and aren’t even as fast in the short races really. People do it with other dogs but the bigger you get the slower you go.
I work in dog sled racing. Do ya'll realize the chick who has basically done the most to stop the iditarod over the past 20 years was one of the Seaveys handlers? There are alot of holes in the way this all works. They aren't bad people. But racing sled dogs is short sighted. www.reddit.com/r/dogs/comments/japt8w/discussion_so_i_work_in_sled_dog_racing/?context=3
Glickman, Please educate yourself on dog body language and mood signals. You'll then recognize how a dog looks and acts when it's being mistreated, abused, or forced to perform against their desire. You won't see that in modern sled dog body language or mood. Don't lie about abuse if its not present. A dog that isn't feeling like trotting is quickly removed, checked physically, and rested untill recovered or not used at all. Generally they absolutely LOVE to trot with their buddies and the pull they exert on their lines for a moving sled is only a few pounds- hardly grueling labor. Really, a dog being abused will show you. They don't lie.

Joshua Simons yeah, you should see those dogs cooking up their own meals, massaging each other, distributing their straw, taking off and putting on their booties.
@@calumarundale2814 I don't race my dogs but I do urban/rural mushing in hill country for longer trips - several hours to half a day trips (no comparison, granted, but going out in winter weather with rain and/or strong winds for hours gives a small taste of what racing in the arctic might feel like). Yes, when it's flat or downhill, you can rest. So can the dogs because the scooter, trike or bike is simply rolling under its own power. But make no mistake. As soon as you get even small inclination or start a climb, the HUMAN has to work as hard as the dogs. Look at how the mushers support the team by pedaling/using ski poles, running next to the sleds (have you tried jogging in heavy clothing through snow?). Do this for several hours, keep the sled on course or brake on downhill stretches, wrestle the sled over rocks and through bends, go without sleep for days in subzero temperatures and storms. Hell, just live in these temperatures without shelter for up to ten days. Then let's talk about the musher "taking it easy".
@@sanhestar My point exactly. You work going "up hills" that being run beside a sled while the dogs pull it. The rest of the time they pull you as well. Now do you mate but don't try and make out you mushers are athletes or that you do anything near what the dogs do.
@@calumarundale2814 no, you didn't read all. I also talked about working with the dogs to propel the sled: pedaling, ski staffs, jogging beside the sled. Also, a sled or bike/trike that is moving does so with minimal effort/friction. It's getting into motion that is the most effort.
this holy musher ... crap he,s like the rest of the abuser...... love thier dogs!!!! then dont run them to death , a thousand miles in a week this guy and all the rest will do anything to get the money . the only thing that goes a thousand miles in a week is the artic tern ..and thats a bird yeh. he didnt dope them up yeh. right and santa clus is coming to town. from chain to nome .from nome to chain this abuse should b stopped !

That was such an inspiring speech. I wish I could meet Dallas in person!
That was thebest presentation i have ever seen. Thanks Dallas!
Racing isn't the peak of dog sleds. Its an extreme offshoot. www.reddit.com/r/dogs/comments/japt8w/discussion_so_i_work_in_sled_dog_racing/?context=3

A great example to teams everywhere. Leading dogs & leading people. As a human on a team, I concede the dogs are smarter. 😊

Iditarod.com has a way for those not in Alaska to follow along! Well worth the subscription!
Thanks for sharing this. He is amazing.
Mackey fan for life
A working dog is a happy dog!

Can someone explain to me why they dont use wolf hybrids for superior physical capabilities of the dog.
They would be too skiddish, not able to handle crowds at the start or finish, or at check points

Burning Daylight...
Good information
Besides the fake doping he was accused of, does anyone knows why he stopped racing?
He raced in 2018 and 2019 in the Finnmarkslopet in Norway. He is signed up to race in the 2021 Iditarod

Dude just gave up all his secrets not really good if he is going to race every year
where's your hair? lice? hot? grow it back now. k thx
Probably lost it from the same drugs he gave his dogs.
I respect the grind mate but at the end of the day the dogs do the work no?
