- Today I'm giving you 5 of my favourite khao soi in the whole of Bangkok.
While khao soi is definitely much more famous and widely available in Chiang Mai, Bangkok does now boast some excellent versions of Northern Thailand's famous curry noodles.
A lot of people have told me that Ongtong Khao Soi has the best Northern Thai food in Bangkok but that's a bold statement! I know it's my wife's favourite though.

Khao soi is a popular dish from Northern Thailand, particularly in the Chiang Mai region. It is a type of curry noodle soup that is made with a combination of fresh and dried spices, coconut milk, and egg noodles. The dish typically includes a protein such as chicken or beef, although vegetarian and seafood versions are also available.
The broth for khao soi is made from a combination of ingredients such as curry paste, coconut milk, chicken or beef broth, fish sauce, and palm sugar. The spices used in the curry paste can vary but often include cumin, coriander, turmeric, and ginger.
The egg noodles used in khao soi are typically made fresh, and the dish is often served with various toppings such as pickled mustard greens, shallots, lime wedges, and crispy fried noodles. The final dish is a balance of spicy, sweet, and savory flavors, making it a delicious and satisfying meal.
Khao soi has become increasingly popular in recent years and is now available in many Thai restaurants around the world. However, for the most authentic experience, it is best to try khao soi in Northern Thailand, where it is a beloved local specialty.

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this RUclips channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

Going to need to make a bowl of khao soi for myself now aren't I. Craving has gone into overdrive after watching that.
Love how your sensitive palette can detect all the separate ingredients in the paste. Sometimes easy-to-chew beef is great even if it's not melt in your mouth.
I've never had Khao Soi, I will definitely seek it out at the next opportunity mate. Always good to see you post👍
You need to! It’s a Thai masterpiece! Very yummy!
I’m sure we’ll go for one together one day mate!
Of course we will Gary, it's inevitable 🙏@@theroamingcook

Learning Thai more than I ever have from your videos. Legend as always Gary thanks. Try Hoong (Khao Man Gai in Silom) if you’ve not already, bit more expensive than some but it’s Singapore style, really delicious Sous Vide Chicken. The Mixed Wonton is incredible aswell
Yes my kind of food Gary! Looks delicious 😊
Coming to Thailand mid Dec for 6 weeks. Soooo looking forward to a food adventure
Those back alley Soi restaurants are usually a great find, nice to just randomly come upon one and discover fantastic food. Nice vid 😊
Khao soi is my favorite. Love it!
Thank you for your VDO.
I missed my hometown when I see this VDO.
One of my favourite Northern Thai dishes 💖
Mine too!
My fave ❤
Missed the live, catching up now. I'm still yet to try khao soi after like 10 trips to Thailand. 😮🤷 Back in October and I will do my best to try one.

Feel like I just had 5 bowls of Khao Soi, so full! 😂 arroy mak
I have never had Khao soi either Mr Butler! 😉
It looks so yummy.I haven't eaten for a while.
Good zing about the one in ekkamai! I checked it out because of RW4Y and was -highly - disappointed.
You mean Hom Duan?
That might be the one..its behind the ekimai beer house.. can’t recall the name.
I could never work out why everybody rates it so much
Luckily I also hunted down one of your picks that turned out very good.. the little khao soi place just over Thaksin bridge to Thonburri side down the left side of the road. Thanks it was yummy!
Need more soup in your noodles. Ur eating dry noodles. Soups is what gives it flavor.
Be there on Tuesday night for a month. You still doing food tours or too busy with videos?
I’m in the UK otherwise I’d have loved to take you out mate
@@theroamingcook Dang man your video that far behind LOL When you get back to Thailand? We will be in Bangkok til 13 SEP, jump over to Cambodia, then Southern Thailand for a month, then Laos, Be back in Bangkok for last 2 weeks of November
I first had khao soi in Chiangmai in 1982 and it was one of those "where have you been all my life!" moments. For decades after I just could not find good khao soi in Bangkok and I kind of stopped looking. It's only been the last 5 years or so that suddenly good khao soi appeared in Bangkok and now luckily you can find excellent khao soi here.
Love these compilations.
Ultimate food guides. Thank you.
As usual I think this video is like many you have done before. Entertaining and informative on every level regarding good food and good locations. Gary Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Thank you Gary mate 🙏
Nice one ill defo try one of these places love khao soi !
I get it but I'd rather have beef or pork in a dish. I like khao soi, but there are other dishes I probably would rather try. I'm glad you're posting videos from Thailand, even though I suspect you're still in the "old country". Loved the Da Nang suite and saved what I could. Hope all is going well up there in the northern hemisphere, best wishes and waiting for your return to a more vibrant quadrant of the planet. 👍🙏😉
I just saw number 4 khao soi with the pork blood and knew it will be my favorite. I am going there to eat.
Gary plan 🇹🇭🙏🙏✨
Wow one of my favourite Thai food and that beef stood out for me 😊
😍😍
I've had this dish once at Ponn in Terminal 21 on Sukhumvit... it was great.
You git I have been back in U.K. 2 days gorging on local food & now I want to get back. My misses used to work in Arai so have ate there & when I come back will be staying near soi 24 a few nights so might have a look there before going back up deep issan
Gary, where can I find khao soi no pork no lard?
Added these for the trip to Bangkok
ah that thai guy here again😁
Super content Gary 👌🏼 everything looks so tasty
Cheers fella, thanks for watching 😀
Bro!! You just earned my respect. I’m subscribng now. Ong Tong is way overrated!!! I’ve had better khao soi in the US. I don’t think they use prick gaeng khao soi. I’m pretty sure they use yellow curry paste and curry powder. Ong Tong is for foreigners and wealthy bangkokians. Anyone from Chiang Mai wouldn’t touch it.
Khao soi lovers used to be in Ari in a small alley near the bts station. I ate there very often. They had good nahm yiaoh as well. Was sad to see them leave a few years back and was disappointed when I tried Ong Tong.
Thanks mate, much appreciated! Couldn’t agree more! I used to love the original shop by the BTS it was one of the first I had in Bangkok
Not sure if you'd be interested next time you're here in Saigon, but I found a lady from Chiang Rai who does a pretty good khao soi in district 2 near where you stay. One of those proper type places like you show. Many other offerings too, of course.
Yeah I’d love that! Could you send me a location please?
@@theroamingcook Yes, ok. I'll email it.
สวัสดี
