The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

There will never be another Tom Jones. Am I wrong to cry when I hear what passes for popular music these days?
No I'm right there with you, music is not like this anymore
The great Tom Jones
Never a single ounce of Falsetto, just full voice, full throttle from top to bottom, One of the best male vocalists there has ever been
hes up there!, but best?, maybe for you!, i myself like him very, very much. but for me!, my choice would be the great tenor mario lanza, who sang opera songs, and contemporary songs. even the three tenors, pavarotti, domingo, and carreras, said mario lanza was one of the best singers they ever heard. all the best, Louie Vaccaro, tenor, las vegas.
Nothing wrong with falsetto, as such.
Case in point: Jackie Wilson.
@@Johnnycdrums jackie wilson, was my mentor when i was a young boy going to school, after hearing him sing, he gave me so much feeling!, i started to sing, and to try and emulate him!. with great difficulty i might say!.just so you know, jackie wilson, was the first rock and roll singer ever to lend an operatic voice to rock and roll!. sadly, jackie was singing in new jersey, on stage, and had a heart attack. they rushed him to the hospital, where he then had a stroke, and lingered for some years. he came out of the coma for a short while, then passed away. i cried for him, like so many of you out there, that remembered him. god bless you jackie, may you rest in peace, and sing for the angels. jackie got his operatic voice, from his mentor the great mario lanza, who then became my mentor. all the best, Louie Vaccaro, tenor Las Vegas.
Awesome vocals and stage presençe !!
Марио Ланца где можно послушать???? 🥰 Напишите о нём пожалуйста!!! 🥰До этого лучше голоса Тома Джонс я не слышала!!! 🧚♂️🧚♂️🧚♂️🧚♂️🧚♂️
As an Irishman thank you for the tribute,we love you Welsh.God bless us all!
The consummate performer. The huge voice, impeccable technique and voice control, and soul to boot. He could sing anything. Tom, you're one of a kind.
From then, today and forever,no doubt that Tom Jones is the best ever!
When entertainment was REAL entertainment! Thank God Tom is still with us. So many of the great artists have departed too soon.
ok boomer
Amen
@@zhouyongkang5331 absolutely! I’m 78 yrs old & I see absolutely no reason to run down today’s artists!
Danny boy never sounded so good
they were under tremendous pressure to perform, they lived the fast life, and some used drugs. otherwise they might still be here, for all that passed, thank you for your artistry, and god bless.
There is no one with the passion and vocal prowess of Tom Jones.
So true and he wasn't created because he cried and the likes of Simon Cowell gave him a thumbs up.
more like the pipes the pipes are GOLDEN
Ooh, I always thought it said the pipes the pipes are calling, thinking it's referring to bag pipes! I learn something new everyday!!
@@Powerfulchange712 It is the pipes are calling. Taylor is referring to Tom's golden vocal pipes.
The song is usually sung very straightforward-often with an Irish tenor. But Tom pumps the soul and gospel into it and completely transforms the song, making it his own. Absolutely electric.
He's doing Jackie wilsons version..check it out
@@richardcray2919 Tom doesn’t do anyone’s version of any song ever, but his own.
@@Djm8520 not this time..its obviously u didn't listen to Jackie's version
@@richardcray2919 Never assume. As I said, Tom Jones makes every song he sings his own. We’re done.
Disagree! Much as I have always loved Jones and had the greatest respect for his remarkable talent, I don’t need him to “interpret” such standards as Danny Boy.
Best Pipes in the business , then and always !!
Really miss the Ed Sullivan Show.
The one and only... Ladies and Gentlemen Tom Jones.
The best version of this song I've ever heard... period.
Check Jacky Wilson version
Go Check Jackie Wilson ❤😂 same thing but much better
@@teagiagiteakarotu7027
Jackie Wilson was the start, even Elvis idolized him.
Now that is a “STAR”. No one today can even compete.
So we’ll said !
Huge voice and plenty of soul and technical skills in his way of singing
What a voice! I'm amazed.
The forever sexy Tom Jones! His vocals and style of dress, just melted the ladies hearts! 💕 Thank you for sharing! 💖
Yeah, including my wife when we used to see him on tv long ago !
@@snivelinj7612... Thank you, that made my night!! 😄😄👍
One of my favorite Irish ballads, by a most talented singer. So blessed to have attended one of his concerts.❤🎶❤
cept it is an English ballad written by Fredrick Weatherly, nothing Irish about it.
0:58 All time favorite singer
Ahhh.... What a voice what an icon
Tom Jones voice is just sooo goooo!!
Great singer one of the best
i love this song
When I was a kid I loved him
Wow. I am 61 and have been a huge soul fan all my life. My hero, Marvin Gaye and I was very fortunate to see him in concert in 1981. A memory I cherish. This though is an absolutely extraordinary performance. I never imagined Wales would give us one of our greatest soul singers.
Keep your Elvis Presleys and Beatles and whatnot... just give me this bloke on his own. Such a voice I never known.
Wow!!!
You look at how he controlled everything all the way through,,,,pure talent.
As apposed to the computer 🖥 controlling people's voices today
I can't help feeling we've lost something 😕
We won't get back.
He is still here
Love and strength FROM IRELAND 🙋🎻🎶🎶
Goosebumps. Damn!
Perfection then and now! ❤️
I've been a fan of Tom jones since 1966 and I still am a fan he has a fantastic voice and I love him ❤ xxxxx
Same, but now I can truly appreciate his amazing voice and performances as I could not back then.
I've been a fan since 1967. My dad listened to him in our car
I love his voice . Amazing
Åhhhh my god, this is fabuless Tom thank you for all the great songs you have given us . Thank you from Denmark
Best Sänger ever 😍🎼
My grandparents came from Ireland. That is an interesting rendition of Danny Boy
Sending you love and STRENGTH from IRELAND 🙋🎻🎶🎶
What has Ireland got to do with the song?
Best I’ve ever heard ! ..No voice will ever equal. Tom Jones !
@@pattynuzzello9035 Agreed Patty ! …. in that I believe no one could sing anything from rock roll to Gospel to ballads or even a lullaby with the versatility and amazing sound of Elvis !
@@fredvespi4268 Technically as a singer Tom is better..
@@sophiebergeron3051 Yes ,Tom Jones’s voice was unbelievable without a doubt , I’m a huge fan but he’s my second favourite because I believe Elvis’s vocal versatility was second to none . He could sing any type of music to perfection . IMO…
hey fred ever hear of mario lanza? gomba?, chow, Louie Vaccaro, tenor, las vegas.
@@louisvaccaro5865 Hi Louis , can’t argue with you . Mario Lanza was my dad’s favourite and he was sensational and what power ! I liked him more than Pavarotti who of course was also great….. and as you know Lanza was a very good actor too. …and of Italian heritage so he had it all ! …just so sad he passed away so young . I appreciate your mentioning him sir .
The voice ...Love Tom Jones been a fan forever
I love this song, and this is my favorite version of this great song! Great talent!!! 🎶

Spectacular voice. Love Tom.❤
I have had Covid this Christmas season so that means no family no gifts and celebrating with food. But, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching old videos of Tom Jones, the man! Mr. Jones you sing every word with soul and passion. You had so much rhythm in you that I could almost hear it screaming to get out. You gave your all every single time you opened your mouth. Bravo, Mr. Jones, bravo!!!
Wow Tommy you killed it 😘💕 You Dear are the Best 😂
So handsome and lovely voice 🥰
This man right here...could sing a whole telephone book and make it sound oh so good!
The Greatest.......simply the best!!
He's singing this based on the Jackie Wilson version- great job, can't miss with Danny Boy.
Tom you the best 👌 I had the privilege to see him in person at the Grandwest ( SA)years back .my late husband was huge fan of him.brings back beautiful memories of my late husband.
Magic voice !
So, I'm 42, and I'm born and raised in Oklahoma, smack dab in the middle of the United States. Both my parents loved Tom Jones when they were teenagers, so I was exposed to his music from a young age, even here in the Great Plains of the United States. Lol. One of the all-time greatest pleasures I've ever had was to see Tom Jones, on-stage and live in Tulsa, Oklahoma alongside Tower of Power. Ugh. Are you kidding me? Amazing. I cherish that memory to this day.
Saw him, for the first Time live, in 2022 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was 82, and it was my 69th birthday. This was a birthday present from my wife as I was on a trip to West Virginia to take care of the grandkids while my daughter was out of town and I found out he was going to be in Indianapolis the day I was driving home. So I just stopped in Indianapolis on my way back from West Virginia to Wisconsin, saw him live, 23 rows from the stage, spent the night in a motel, and drove the last hours of my journey back to Wisconsin. Got home by 1:00 in the afternoon. Logged in for work from home at 2:00 in the afternoon and worked until 10:30 before I can finally go to bed and dream about seeing him again someday .
Oh my as if am back of my teenage days. It's nice remembering
Wow! Have heard a hundred different versions of this song, and this has to be one of the best ❤
WOW !!! What a Awesome and a Mighty Voice of Sir Tom Jones . Beautiful and Classic Sound. Thanks for Sending my friend .

Wow the legend
How good is this I love it.
Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen and down the mountain side
The summer's gone and all the roses dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
And I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy I love you so
But if ye come and all the roses dying
And I'm dead, as dead I well may be
He'll come and find the place where I'm dying
And kneel and say an Ave Mary there for me
And I shall feel, tho soft you tread above me
And then my grave will richer, sweeter be
For you will bend and tell me that you love me
And I shall rest in peace until you come to me ...
Gosto muito dessa programacao doyutube obrigado
I agree! I have loved Sinatra all of my life and all of the rest of the great singers, but l do have to say Tom Jones is there best singer l have heard Ever!!!!!!!😊

No one to touch him!! The GREATEST 🏴
Una letra hermosa , hermoso el hermosa vos siempre y hasta siempre .. Único!!
Great singer with no AUTOTUNE.
He could sing anything!
This interpretation of Danny Boy (or Londonderry Air) is just fantastic, so much emotion and such a great voice. Thank you Tom.
This is not the Londonderry Air, totally different lyrics.
@@george-ev1dq I know that the lyrics are different, but the melody is the same (Londonderry Air, that is).
@@peramundsson2006 the lyrics are also different, the lyrics of Danny Boy are another take on the lyrics of Eliy Dear both written by Weatherly, the lyrics to the Londonderry Air are totally different as follows Londonderry Air Lyrics
Would God I were the tender apple blossom
That floats and falls from off the twisted bough
To lie and faint within you silken bosom
Within your silken bosom as that does now!
Or would I were a little burnish'd apple
For you to pluck me, gliding by so cold
While sun and shade you robe of lawn will dapple
Your robe of lawn, and you hair's spun gold
Yea, would to God I were among the roses
That lean to kiss you as you float between
While on the lowest branch a bud uncloses
A bud uncloses, to touch you, queen
Nay, since you will not love, would I were growing
A happy daisy, in the garden path;
That so your silver foot might press me going
Might press me going even unto death
I love the traditional Danny Boy
Absolutely beautiful and fantastic 😍😍
means so much now...when i rememberf yesterdAY
So he’s riffing on Jackie Wilson’s version of Danny Boy here, really cool to see the similarities
Love Tom fab singer. Love from Ireland
Oh my god, the voice !!!
There are two other singers who also have a excellent version of this song and that is Judith Durham and the Roy Orbison version .
In the same league as Elvis powerfull talented entertainers
I'm the world's biggest Elvis fan, and - nonetheless - have to concede that Tom topped him on the bellowing ballads. Elvis beat Tom on the soft ballads like "Anything That's Part Of You."
Soul Brother of The World Tom Jones 🙂👍
Fabulous Tom Jones
The song is in English Tom because the Lyrics were written in England by an Englishman. In fact the guy who wrote them was from Somerset less than 30 miles from your birthplace. You're neighbours! :)
So wonderful!
I love Jackie Wilson's version but I decides to see what Tom Jones did with it. Slightly different but still soulful. Would listen amd dance to both of these versions and not be disappointed at any point. Cheers to all the great singers
🧚♂️🧚♂️🧚♂️🧚♂️🧚♂️

Tom Jones is GREAT!!!! Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden to me does that for Heavy Metal. I been listening to Tom Jones since i was a little boy in the 60s. My grandfather was so into music. CHET ATKINS! Anyway I know he had to influence some of those great british singers.
