Eastern State Penitentiary is known to be one of the most haunted and oldest prisions to date. Opened in 1829, this was known as the most expensive prison every built in America at that time. It even housed the famous american gangster, Al Capone. It closed in 1971 and is now owned by eastern state preservation group. Besides punishing the criminals inside it walls, it also was created to move the criminal toward spiritual reflection and change. The method was a Quaker-inspired system of isolation from other prisoners, with labor. The early system was strict. To prevent distraction, knowledge of the building, and even mild interaction with guards, inmates were hooded whenever they were outside their cells. But the proponents of the system believed strongly that the criminals, exposed, in silence, to thoughts of their behavior and the ugliness of their crimes, would become genuinely penitent. Thus the new word, penitentiary. Source: www.easternstat...
I love the Eastern State Penintentiary. :) I live just like 10 minutes from there.
Al Capone was a prisoner here! This is on my bucket list! I have seen so many programs on this penitentiary. I would love to be scared out of my wits! Thanks for sharing this with the world! This is so interesting!
if you in the philly area or will be visiting, go check it out. Open all year round I believe but see it in the spring. Good price as well for the tour.
U ever make it here? Capone did 8 months for a gun charge
I've been there before. It was so cool. I don't regret the visit one bit.
I had an awesome time there. I drove 6 hrs to get there for this. Wish there was more stuff left in the buildings but it was still cool to walk history
One of my favorite places. Been on multiple lengthy tours. Thanks for posting
This is one creepy scary place! My hairs were standing on edge as i went through it. Yes, I'd say it is definitely haunted
Creepy old places are rad dude
I loved how they put some stuff in a blunt box. That's Philly for you. lol.
ghost adventures were investigating here
i live in philly and have never been here. always wanted to go but never did..
worth a visit and not that bad of a price
Did I hear that correctly?
For $50 a year, you get all-access to the penitentiary, and can roam around after hours even? If that's the case - I'm down. I'll sleep in a cell and record E.V.P.'s all night.
***** from what I was told, you get access to some areas the public can not go to. It comes admission for the year and also there are special after hour nights for photographers
Sweet; thanks!
They do a great haunted house here during Halloween.
they made a video game based on that prison The Suffering Trailer ....i loved that game
Yes it def is. Worth a visit
That was soooo cool, Steve! We don't have such old places like this reallyout here in Minnesota - cept for like Fort Snelling. Anyway, can't wait to watch part two!
This place is very much haunted. Been featured in many shows and they do offer times where you can go there during the night. Many ppl were put to death in this place and many died from conditions. Its very active from what I hear
Thank You, yea i had a blast at this place and anyone in the philly area should really check this one out. Part two and three are uploaded
I was going to go a few days ago but plans had changed. I am going up in early August for a photo night. I can't wait!
Thank You for watching. I enjoyed every min of this place
The suffering brought me here.
Those cells, No windows, it must have been stuffy.i had never heard that before about how the name penitentiary came about! Learn something new everyday! Thanks for posting this video!
Every cell was designed to be solitary confinement. Hooded when moved place to place to avoid talking amongst prisoners. Worse conditions bc every cell was solitary.
Thank you so much. It an awesome place and heard going at night is scary
Probably Is wouldn’t b surprised If u were2c a ghost👻
I understand this video was made before COVID; however, the fact they don't have these rooms & objects, now now considered exhibits in some sort of enclosure, not only for historical preservation, but also for the visitors and employees health--the amount of asbestos and lead paint in that place must be astronomical.
This video shows open rooms or rooms that are minimally partitioned off. At the end, the guy who was talking about an "unlimited pass". If he did purchase that pass; hopefully, he wears a mask on future visits.
Of course! Please look the good side! Make a masterpiece!Dream!
Thanks, yea the cells especially the ones that were dual level had minimal light and no hair flow. Just image what a hot day felt like in one of them
I read about these guys from the Smithsonian magazine and was interested to see their haunted big house that they set up every halloween. My girlfriend likes scary stuff, so I wanna take her there.

Abandoned Steve Yea It was so cool to hear about the castle during Halloween.
Cool Place
I've been there before it took me 2 days to get there but it was weart it it was pretty cool and scary cause I'm just 11
how long ago was this? You can easily go here now for a small fee
Cell doors with an upside down Y are doors from a pittsburgh prison brought over to help w repairs. Old cell doors that are original have a cross not the upside down Y
