Level Descriptions: The Hot Springs This is where I start to play around the rage mechanic. I'll go into it when we get to the next level since that's when I made the discovery but I did discover using the RC Car and Slingshot were vital for triggering it. Depending on your character pick, you'll enter the springs slightly different but, they converge to the same loading area. It is vital to enter both via the Sky Flyer or a well timed double jump from one of the shelves (Side info; Saru Sam is a monkey that is a fan of Yumi, you just have to reset his alert after you break the object they were hiding under). From here, I skip the RC section and start cleaning up and enter the boat section in reverse (for the surprise on the next two monkeys). then go back to get another on the boat route. I return to get the Super Monkey door to scoop then return to the main route. Few Slingshots here, a RC Car there, all done! Winterville This is where my third eye was opened. I am not sure if this is common knowledge, as shown earlier, this game has a rage mechanic. When monkey's take enough damage (I've noticed it varies on the gadget/morph), they will enter rage. If you are near, they will cause you to trip and this gives them a chance to attack you frame 1 (Like the catch fail animation sometimes). However, you can exploit this using longer ranged options like the slingshot and RC Car (Morph's can have the same effect). Once they enter this state, the action varies on the monkey and what weapon they are holding but in most common cases, they will try to lunge at you. This causes them to be in prone allowing for easy capture. If they do not have this lunge, you can time it out giving them a lil space to reset their awareness and get a free catch all the same. I hereby call this: "Rage Baiting". It's been wonderful utilizing this for the run which has made things much easier. Aside from this personal discovery, not much to add aside the tank section. I ain't big on vehicle like in AE2 so I opt to shoot the mini-boss with explosive rounds just as I did in WWT. I did a Miracle Ninja for fun then a bit of rage baiting to close it out. 😎 The Emperor's Castle This is an interesting level as this is when you get Miracle Ninja in the game. I try to not use the first wall run then move the set of ninja monkey's. I thought this would be difficult being they have insane RNG dodging but if you line an explosive round on the centre one, all 3 enter rage, allowing me to bait and get 3 free catches, I move onto the next area. From here, I had to set a hard gameplan. A lot of this level uses this morph and with the restrictions in place, I had to route my usage around Miracle Ninja to get morph energy as I progressed in the stage. I basically needed to get from the early part of the level all the way to the end, catching the monkey's that required me to walk on the tightrope. Every kill and capture mattered, and the speed I did things had to be sharp and concise. I could make some errors, too many and it would fall apart when I got to the last stretch. Once I did, it was a matter of nerves trying to route what was the best to go for (Since it's difficult for me to reach this part of the level). I had to recount my awareness (It's been 6+ min at this point) then go for what capture felt right. I decided for some tension, I'd end it at the Super Monkey door. Pulling a quick capture then reading Slingshot to rage bait. Finding a blind spot for the shurikens is the key to get some quick rages in so I could go in for the capture. Once that is done, Behind the curtain is the goal post. Monkey Yellow Monkey Yellow has a pretty easy pattern. After getting hit, he will jump around creating shockwaves. This can be risky for most melee approaches (Honestly I think you can use Fantasy Knight again because the shockwaves count as projectiles). I decided playing at range would be best since we got more tinker bots trying to throw sharp things at me. After pelting Yellow with some explosive rounds, he will go up to use Ninja Attack. Firing heavy shurikens, creating rope to run on with Miracle Ninja afterwards. You can sit back to fire but I go up so I can drop a weight on him for big damage. I then revert to pelt more rounds into him. I was wasteful with my explosives so I think I could have ended it earlier... regardless, I got it after the second cycle. Pretty easy fight.
Congrats on becoming a real youtuber! Finally posting rage bait, lol. For real though, nice find! And it’s also cool to see how the morph restriction pushes you to engage with the parts of the level you might otherwise skip over on a run like this, like beating the bots for refills.
I've waited my whole life for this moment... 😤 Thanks! It's an aspect I really wanted to push. I can't guarantee it will be as good as that (since you'll see later on how much they force morphs for a small section).
