MY dad introduced me to Shawn Mullins by popping his Souls core cd in his old Ram on the way up to Huntsville Ontario when I was just a boy of 9 or 10 years old. He's almost 80 now as i'm turning 30. I hold this song and Shawn Mullins in general in a very special place in my heart and soul. As soon as I hear the opening chords I feel a tear rolling down my cheek. I love you so much dad.
Two decades later, and it still has the same effect. The story was amazing then, and it is better now. The vibe feels a bit different, but it seems the song has aged with him, and I think it improves everything about it. It still hit home just like it did the first time I heard it. Amazing singer, superior storyteller, and everything comes from the heart, how could you not enjoy any of his work.
Everytime time I hear a song from Souls Core, I think of my high school Chemistry teacher Mr. Smiley. He introduce my class to Shawn Mullins back when this album came out in 1998 or 1999 and we got to hear it just about every day. Nobody got tired hearing that album, one of the few good memories of my childhood.
Instead of listening to all-known rock'n roll and pop music.... If you want to be a singer songwriter, I suggest you get your inspiration from music like this, live played, only guitar and voice. Believe me, if you're stuck in your songs, this can help you to find joy in your own music at any level. It worked for me. Shawn Mullins is a great artist. Sorry for bad English. Keep on playing and singing people!
I agree 100 %, and that is saying something. Not many artists from the 90's could tell a story the way that Shawn Mullins could. I also feel that when it came out, Shawn had an admiration for this person. Now it feels as if he has an understanding of what the man was actually saying. This just goes to show what kind of storyteller he is, and it ages like a fine wine, getting better and changing just right as it ages.
This song is such a masterpiece. It aged timelessly as Shawn has and with a story that ages with it. His voice is as soulful as ever and deep from the heart with time and experience. It's truly a favorite to listen on RPT.
Clearly remember the night at Eddie's when he'd come back from this trip and played a couple of new songs he'd written while gone (the other was Lullaby). It's been my favorite Shawn Mullins song ever since. Great performance of it, too.
Yeah, when I heard him make some changes in the second verse, I thought, well, OK, I can't sing that song like I could twenty years ago either, but then, he wailed on it for the whole back half of the song. Good for him.
ive been a huge fan of Shawn Mullins since i first heard his souls core album, right when it came out..and learned every song on it. LOVE LOVE LOVE...excellent everything Mr. Mullins..
That’s beautiful.. ✨💛✨ I love how Shawn tells a great story in his songs & his voice is still the same after all these years. Thanks for the music Shawn & thanks to The Print Shop for sharing this! 🙏
I totally agree! He is also has had so many great albums since Souls Core. I hope you will check those out if you never have before. I'm a huge Shawn fan ❤
@@rickwelch8464 Thank you....wonder where it came from lol Beautiful Wreck is my favorite song....even though it is hard to pick just one favorite song. I love so many of his songs. I have seen him too many times to count, but I am lucky to live in Atlanta where he performs around town regularly. On a side note, I went to school with Shawn in the 7th grade. Even back then he had his unique voice. He is a very cool, sweet and very talented man!
@@rickwelch8464 I turned 55 in November Shawn will be 56 I believe.. He always does a show here in Atlanta on or near his birthday in March. They always sell out. He will be at the Red Clay Theater in Duluth GA in March. I don't know the date but if you are interested check out their site for the dates. He is currently touring....not sure where. What state do you live in?
Even after 25+ years I always come back to this song when I get to missing home and the younger years thank you....I was living in vancouver and bremerton washington when I found you and this album

One of my absolute favorite songs for over 20 yrs. Every time I hear it, it heals.
Song just feels even more powerful coming from a more mature, older version of the songwriter.

How is it possible that he sounds exactly the same after over 20 years

I listen to Shawn quite often, his style of music is what I love, storytelling. Hoping he comes up to Alaska to play sometime, would love it.
