I worked in a plating shop for about six months, back in 1976. This took me back to that short period when I got to see how something that would impact the last forty years working in the motorcycle industry. It was just like being 18 again. Thanks!
Wow!What a fantastic looking Frame to begin with, then after it's nickel plated it looks incredible, like you said, it's definitely artistic beauty I would LOVE to see the finished motor!bike that this frame is destined to be!
I own a 67 BSA Lighning that when I got it, it had a 1973 British Columbia(Canada)government safety inspection decal on the neck of the already chromed frame. I combined that with a true candy apple red paint job, it gets tons of attention!
What a fantastic job on a beautifully made frame and cycle parts! That metal polisher is worth his weight in gold, that was a laborious task-how long did the polishing take? Brilliant informative video, I bet the owner of that frame was chuffed to bits…. Wow!😳
Great point! the weather protection is from the nickel layer. Think of copper as doing the same thing in plating that a high build primer does in paint. Not needed on this job.
I wonder how much it could help to have the frame shop give you the raw tubing before they cut it into sections so you can do the preliminary steps in advance. Then return the built frame to you for the job proper. I’m just thinking you wouldn’t have to wrestle the whole frame about as much. Practical?
@allareasindex7984 You are spot on. Pre polishing components before assembly is the best possible way of doing this. Unfortunately it rarely happens as people do not usually think about metal finishing until after it is made.
What happens if you leave a part in the nickel plating tank for a way longer time? I am curious about that will it continue to get thicker? Will it get ugly? I like cause and effect type videos. You know "what if" type stuff. Its interesting to see experiment type stuff even if its a failure. Dont know if you would ever be interested in do some videos of experiment type but i would enjoy learning and seeing that type. RUclips is a place where people do try and test things out that dont make sense to typically do. And those videos do tend to do well. Throw on a white lab coat make a fun video!
Great Question. No need on this job as the brazing was superb with no chance of pin holes. If it was not perfectly sealed you would have to drill holes
Another great video, the process is always so interesting! P.s. Are you guys still doing golf clubs as have tried to contact you about replating some putters but without any luck.
That takes some polishing skill (HA - and stamina) to polish a frame like that. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
Thanks

Glad you enjoyed it. The polishing took about 4 hours. Old ones take much longer!
Good job! Why didn't you put a layer of copper as you usually do?

Very nice 👍🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
Excellent video that was very informative, thank you.
Really enjoying these videos. What are the floating balls for though?
Insulation
How did you protest the fork insert?

Hi, love the no nonsense vid just wondering do you need to drill small holes in cross members to let any chemical drain out 🤔🏁
Great Question. No need on this job as the brazing was superb with no chance of pin holes. If it was not perfectly sealed you would have to drill holes
That is some of the SWEETEST ,Filthiest Rockin Bluzey Ass Stuff I've Heard in Years! Good Music -Great Video- Fantastic Bike Frame
Thanks
Another great video, the process is always so interesting!

Yes we do golf clubs all the time. Email me on sales@marquerestore.co.uk or call 02476 622 677.
Having polished a bull bar with a big air-driven buff, I can only imagine how your arms feel like spaghetti after this!
Oh noo you went all American on the video. No need for any music, it’s about the process so drop the music.
Agree
The music really takes away from the video
I don’t know what you pay that man doing the polishing, but GIVE HIM A RAISE! Wow, what a job it must be to polish a MOTORCYCLE FRAME! 😲🥵
What about hydrogen embrittlement?
There was absolutely no risk of hydrogen embrittlement on this job. It’s brand new steel and was not left in an acid bath for a long period of time.
Correct. No appreciable risk.
Great video apart from the music!!
Thanks 👍
I almost nickel plated my ex. I stopped at the acid stage. Oh well!
Before or after the acid stage?
@@ChromeandCarRestoration After. Nothing left to plate? Who knew?
