This reminds me of the thermarest compressible pillow, which I own and love. It folds up in a similar way but also has a cord to secure it and also only ways 7 ounces. It's a good middle-of-the-road choice for someone like me, who hates inflatable pillows.
I just bought the trekology version of that thermarest pillow, same weight 7oz. And I love it! Me and the fam even use it at home for naps on the couch and stuff and backpacking cuz it’s so much better that sleeping on a balloon! I’m curious what the difference is between the thermarest and trekology though. If anyone knows and would like to share I’d appreciate it!
@@fluxngutz4667 When did you get that Trekology pillow? I don't see it on their website.
+1 for the Thermarest compressible pillow. It's amazing and I always get a good night's sleep on it but I don't bring it on backpacking trips anymore because it just takes up too much space in my pack. I use an inflatable very similar to the trekology and it's fine if you slip a over tshirt or something to use as a pillowcase over it. Also the Thermarest pillow has been around for like 20 years I'm surprised more people haven't heard of it.
I've been using my thermarest pillow almost every night since I've been sleeping in my hammock at home. It's great!
Surprised I haven’t seen the MyPillow on Dan Becker’s channel. He’s not shy to talk about his beauty sleep and brings 2 pillows.
After seeing this video I got the My Pillow. Dude, this is the one. I sleep in a hammock and after 10+ years I've never loved any pillow solution before this. The weight is worth it to me. Its seriously perfect for me. Also thanks to this guy I'm self conscious of garish colors in my kit and have eliminated all orange and zombie green. I'm classy.
I’m actually buying two! Glad to see someone else thought the same thing
Great video, pillows can really make or break a nights sleep. I use the Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow (small), similar design and it's a little lighter at 7 oz. It was a total game changer for me (switched from the trekology ultralight).
I got a travel pillow from Walmart only $3.72.love it best sleep ever. Tried a bunch of blowup pillows and didn't like them. The extra weight for the travel pillow is worth it for better sleep
I do the same thing. I bought my first one a few years ago. They don't wash well so I'm on my third one at this point. I've thought about cutting it in half, adding a little stuffing to it and sewing it up to save both space and weight.
I have all the pillows for camping. I now only use my travel My Pillow. I even have the Nemo Fillo and the My Pillow is just better. I don't think it takes up that much space in my pack at all but I'm also not doing 10 miles a day. Sleep is so important to me that even if I did long distances I would probably still pack my My Pillow. Thanks for the video!
I bought a second because one was not enough (side sleeper). I ended up cutting them open and stuffing 75% of one into the other and I love it. I can still roll it up too.
Love my Outdoor Vital "free" pillow. A smaller air pillow. I let air out to suit and my head doesn't sink in because of it's smaller size then I put it in a Thermarest pillow case. Replaced my home bed pillow with it.
I bought a few Thermarest roll up pillows a couple of years ago for family camping. Before Christmas, I saw some MyPillow travel pillows that were similar in size and design, and decided to pick a couple up at $15 apiece at the local Menards hardware store. I've had the full-sized MyPillows for at least 5 years for regular use and the travel version is just as comfortable. Granted, it's not as small or light as a Trekology pillow but it's a heck of a lot more comfortable.
Looks comfy!
I love the print of it
Interesting video.
This is an interesting topic to me. After my thru hike of the PCT in 2018 I came away thinking that I should have added the extra 8-10oz and gone with a real pillow.
So now I....
Spend more money to drop the base weight and add the luxury item.
I’ve always used an old throw pillow that came with a bedding set like 8 years ago. It’s maybe 10”x16” but it compresses pretty small and it’s always done it’s job. I’ve just never been a fan of sleeping on a blow up pool toy.
My fav pillow is the empty bag from a box of wine, tucked inside my fleece jacket. Also works as a water container.
I used to just stick my shoes under the head end of my pad. I've got a Sea to Summit pillow and luckily for me I like a firm pillow. I use a memory foam pillow at home so the sts works great for me. My Trekology pillow failed miserably. After a few uses it developed leaks all over the place. A pillow as a side sleeper is a must.
The Klymit Drift is the most comfortable pillow I’ve ever used and I toss and turn when I sleep. I drop a little weight just to take that pillow but you can take some foam out if you want to lighten it as well. I use it at home it’s so good!
I have one & love it!
Hi for me i have a normal baseweight from 3,4 kg for an UL hiker so i bring a therma rest mushroom pillow..i love it really cause with 210 gramms is not that much con for me but the difference that a cozy sleep has ...its worth it
I always use two pillows! i use a sts aeros or and aeros premium pillow attached to my nemo 2022 tensor with the velco tabs, and then i put a thermarest foam pillow in my sleeping bag! It makes the loft very controllable, and the foamcore adds the at home pillow feeling. It comes out to about 260 grams in total, but still a bit less than a my pillow!
My husband & I use these on short trips. They are worth it if you're just out for a few nights. I'm a side sleeper & fold mine in half. It does feel like a luxury compared to other backpacking pillows.
I love the color too
I got the XL Therm-a-Rest Compressible. So I don't mind the size or weight. (I am a giant) lol I will look into these!
Been using the my pillow for backpacking as my go to for years. It's so damn comfortable for me, it's worth the weight.
I have a myog pillow that I made with scraps from my quilt project. It's small, not even half of the mypillow, but it does it's job and is lightweight, I haven't actually weighed it but I'm guessing maybe 100g.
You had me at the Flamingos. Hilarious. Maybe for a tent but not my Hammock. That requires the Dutchwear pillow for my neck.
Love your vids! Useful info, down to earth, and they make me laugh. Thanks!
Nemo fillo pillow elite FTW. Combines foam and air for a better cushion.
A few years ago, my local Walmart had these marked down on clearance for $9 each...I got 4 of them so my kids and I each could have one. A little heavy, a little bulky, but it goes with me on every camping and backpacking trip.
It's similar to the Thermarest Compressible Pillow. I have the Cinch version, which firms up the pillow when you pull the cinch cord. It stops it being too flat if you want it more plump. I got the regular size and it is incredible 👌🏼 I think I paid £26 for it ($32).
If you can find it, the Thermarest stuff-sack pillow it my favorite. I store close in it and then at night I put my puffy jacket in there and it is the best.
close
Yeah, my thumbs and my brain don't connect good for typie on this phoone. Lol
That looks like the Thermarest one but way more reasonably priced. Id do a short hike with it, not a longer one. The print is great 👍🏻
I have 4 travel pillows by my pillow and have been backpacking with one for over a year now.
The Nemo Fillo is heavy because they use memory foam. (Like MyPillow) Memory foam is some of the heaviest foam on the market. I used to have a Fillo and I replaced the memory foam with a piece of 1.5” thick standard upholstery foam that I cut out. It didn’t compress as much but it was way lighter. But overall I didn’t like the way that pillow had no baffles or structure to the blowup.
Never be afraid to modify existing gear
Thermarest compressible pillow alittle expensive but good Nemo inflatable has a pad also pretty comfy 😄
I have a travel down pillow from all about down I put inside a goosefeet gear down pillow case never lose any sleep 6 ozs
I use a similar pillow from Therm-a-rest... the compressible pillow... Same type...roll etc... weight 255g (medium size)
I’ve used the wise owl little snoozy for the last year. Haven’t weighed it don’t care. I’ve found my pillow after years of different pillows. I’ll cut weight on anything except good sleep.
I have started using a very small “pillow” that was £2.50 with a blow up. Really does feel like best of both worlds. Yes that is two pillows but it is worth it for me.
I didn't want to like the Nemo Fillo because I didn't want to carry the weight over my Trekology pillow, but man. Try one. Nemo knows how to make great stuff and the fillo is no exception. I never sleep through the entire night because of past events but the fillo cut down on my wakeups substantially and I fall asleep much faster.
How do you wash ur 🫏?
I could not find a pillow that worked for me so i had a cottage company make one for me to my specs. It is also 10oz but there is no way i would do any length of trip without it. A good nights sleep is to important to me.
wait a minute! how much are you getting from Mike?
About a year ago, I took a My Pillow and removed some of the stuffing. I placed the stuffing in a lighter handmade pillow case. I sleep with it on top of my inflatable pillow. It gives just a bit of extra height, which I need as a side sleeper and provides some softer padding. It weighs about 2 oz and packs down fairly small. My daughter in laws family owns one of the places that makes the pillow cases for My Pillow. I've often thought someone should reach out to Mike who owns MyPillow and ask him to create something for us bsckpackers. Maybe you could do some field testing on a prototype? I can just see you and Mike in a MyPillow backpacking commercial. Lol
I love my Nemo Philo Elite Luxury pillow. This thing does look super comfortable, I'd actually consider getting one of these for shorter mileage trips. Or when I take my ULA ohm pack and go "heavy" for fishing trips deep inside GSMNP or Linville Gorge, where I'll make a base camp and venture up/down stream then return and sleep at camp. For shorter trips why not bring all the luxuries? No reason not to. Now if I am doing 12+miles a day at Linville, they yeah pack light as possible and stay under 25lbs "wet weight."
After coming back from a mostly crappy 2 night trip, I realized my pillow situation was much worse after getting a new sleeping pad to address other problems lol. I had 2 fancy, nemo and klymit, pillows in my cart but frankly I have a perfectly good pillow at home that actually weighs .1 oz more than either one lol. I wondered if anyone has ever brought out a full size pillow from home 😅 I’ll try it once, as long as I can keep it dry lol.
I’ve actually always wanted to try a down pillow from Goosefeet Gear or someone similar because it’s super light and small, but still much softer than an inflatable. I don’t ever see anyone share RUclips videos about down backpacking pillows though, so I’ve been hesitant to shell out that much money on just a pillow just yet.
How's this been for you, Bryce? I need a pillow in 2 weeks for a trip... Thinking about this or a Nemo Fillo...
Here's the pillow trick. Combine the trekology pillow with the MyPillow in a buff. Only blow up the trekology pillow partially. Perfect combo. You can still strap it to your sleeping pad. Best pillow combo ever. Sleep is ESSENTIAL!
Walmart travel pillow. It's cheap and you can throw it in the washer and dryer. Just fold it in half for side sleeping.
I love my Trekology, for the versatility combined with how surprisingly comfy it is*; I have actually even turned down the StS Aeros it was originally made to ape, in favour of it. When I'm feeling luxe, I bring my StS Foamcore Pillow (in L) for the perfect support all night long; it's nowhere near as compact, obvs, but it does roll up small _enough_ that I can justify it - it's not like I ever personally hike _far_ , given that I'm rehabbing from a nasty spinal (both column & cord) injury.
Because the Trekology's pad-strap has spoiled me for all other pillows & their tendency to "wander" in the night, I have rigged up a custom system for my Foamcore by taking a toddler pillowcase (which fits its wee dimensions perfectly) + a length of 1/2inch elastic, & sewing it in at either end. I cut to fit firmly around my thickest, 4inch pad, & when I am using my much-thinner UL pad I just gather the extra to one side + tie it off in a simple loop.
It adds like an ounce to my pack, & it makes all the difference to my quality of sleep.
*But I always put a tiny little 6inch square kapok/poly-wadding pad - that came as a "pillow"(ha) insert in the hood of an old, brandless sleeping bag - underneath it, just to give it that last extra .75 or so inch of height that my broad shoulders & long neck demand (I'm a side-sleeper). Funnily enough, it's actually comfier with that pad _underneath_ than on top, which may sound counterintuitive to some, but I really do find that that little valley in the centre of the Trekology just cradles my head so nicely.
Great video my man, the nemo filo does suck, I will be happy to send you mine
What don't you like about it?
@@dustyoldhat for me I like loft and the filo has none, sorry bro forgot gave it to a friend.
@@matthewfurst1577 loft - what do you mean by loft?
I felt like the Fillo was high in the middle and tapered off towards the edges so I always felt like I was rolling off of it. I like pillows that have more of a bulge around the edges like the trekology
Hmmm, the world needs a better hiking pillow…this one seems a bit thin, but not bad. Nice overview. 🤓

My camping pillow is that one.
It's just like my thermarest.
Hello Bryce, the pillow has been the most difficult piece of gear to find for me. Still searching for the perfect pillow.
I want to start an UL backpacking pillow company. We’ll be looking for picky sleepers like you for beta testing.
I’m only kidding but maybe I’m not?
@@dustyoldhat I have 5 camp pillows and still searching for the perfect pillow.
drilling holes in your toothbrush to stay UL and then carrying a crazy heavy pillow…… you’re killing me smalls
My pillow is 310g so slightly heavier but it is a luxury item.
and the bonus is, its made by someone who doesn't give a shit about the U.S.
What is the name of your sunglasses ?
Funny you ask. Everyone always does and I talk about that in today's video. I don't know what they are haha
@@BryceNewbold lol. I like the mirror look. Like aviator sunglasses.
Last time I slept outside while we were glamping I used my regular pillow and a decision was made.
I also use the my pillow and it is amazing! My other pillow which is a little pricier is the zpacks pillow stuff sack.$45 I usually stuff it with a down Cosco blanket So I have a pillow, stuff sack and emergency blanket for colder nights. Walmart also sells a small travel pillow that is same size as the my pillow. Thanks for the awesome video!
I actually bought a free pillow (just pay shipping!) from Outdoor Vitals. (I'm a sucker for advertisements) Its comfy and lightweight. You should check it out and give your thoughts! Great channel/vids! Keep it up! 👍
If they made it slightly smaller
When I need a comfy puffy pillow I just use the puffy eyes of Bryce
I like your style sometimes flamingos are more important than grams So many people would do a short overnight hike carrying your pack for a couple of hours and spend the evening around the campfire arguing about camp chairs and pillows and how many grams in a beer can. To all you doubters out there just remember flamingos are people too. maybe?
Just wrap your trekology inside a nice fleece shirt for extra comfort.
Throw a link in the description for that and I'll use it!
Will do!
Done!
@@BryceNewbold Bought! Now if you would just buy a titanium spork. ;)
Sea to Summit Aeros Down Pillow- stupid expensive but 2.5 oz packs small and is very comfy 😴
That said I also have thermarest compression travel pillow similar to yours and is like a pillow from home
10 - 4 = 8? Hahaha, I have the Nemo lux and love it! It's in my bed right now..... What, did you stop drinking? No Yuengling beer in this video.
Yea I caught that one too.. lol! Maybe no one will notice 😆. And yea I dropped the ball on the beer in this one
Those are some puffy eyes!!! You need a higher pillow! LOL. 🌟💫
What's pillow height have to do with puffy eyes?
@@jopeters Higher pillows angle your head in a way that allows the fluid to drain back down into your body, if your head is tilted backwards because of a low pillow, it causes liquid to pool, which can cause minor swelling in soft tissues such as your eye lids. I'm just kidding I have no idea, it sounded good though didn't it 😂
@@SalmondOutdoors I was reading that like “this person is insane” and then it was a relief to know you were just taking the piss

I totally believed you... 😆😆.. I was like... that explains everything!
I love my outdoor vitals inflatable , check it out it’s awesome!!! Best on the market…
the difference of a real pillow vs stuff sack pillow is night and day. I didn't think I could sleep so well in a tent!
$25?! A Wal-Mart Mainstay travel pillow is under $4 and is great. (14"x20") I don't roll it, but lay it flat in my pack between my hammock quilts and the rest of the stuff in my pack.
Happen to know the weight?
@@rockyracoonanddogman1720 Just went and weighed it. 9 oz by itself or 10.8 oz with the optional pillowcase that Walmart sells for it.
Thanks, I will pick one up tomorrow
😂
I can’t do it simply because of how psycho the owner is.
I don't see the point of hauling 10 ounces around when the NEMO Fillo Elite Luxury weighs about three and is really comfortable.
Maybe because it's fifty bucks and the size of a postage stamp lol did you even listen to Bryce at all?
Haha. I’m RUclips famous now. Super cool you got it and tried it out. I have a few of the original travel pillows. My kids use them as their everyday pillows. The originals are a little smaller size but a bit loftier. Also, wash and dry it and will regain its loft.
if MyPillow would reduce the size by 1/3rd that might be just right size
ive been thinking that since i got mine. i think im going to cut into mine and tear out some fluff
The MyPillow guy is a complete fool. I'm willing to compromise my morals for quality products on occasion but this company is built on insanity. Cmon Bryce! 🤣

Just back from two nights away and my Trekology pillow has a slow leak. I was inflating it every twenty minutes, this does not make for a good sleep! I’ve bought some twelve or thirteen, maybe more, pillows over the years but I’ve never found one I like. Perhaps it’s because I sleep on my side.
The search continues…
LOL I love My Pillow pillows! In fact I have that exact same pillow! Well, not the Flamingo case... Cheers Bryce ! Oh BTW I stuff Clothing or my Termarest pillow under my Pad to elevate my head and then use a pillow.
I’d rather sleep on a rock than give that man a single penny.
Good sleep is not a luxury .
If you cannot carry a pillow then maybe you should invest in hiring a sherpa
👍👍👍
Seriously, you would actually buy a product from this company??
Several reasons i would not consider this pillow, but among them are the weight and too flat being mostly a side sleeper.
Sigh. The pillow challenge! First off, I would not care if a MyPillow was stupendous; I cannot support that traitorous fraud, Mike Lindell. Second: I have 5 pillows and might still be searching. The Thermarest compressible is like your pillow-that-won’t-be-named, with bits of memory foam in it. It is too flat for this side sleeper. The Nemo fillo is good, especially if you modify with additional memory foam to mitigate that ballon syndrome, but it now weighs 10.35oz, Yikes. I currently use a S2S Aeros down covered pillow WITH (inside) a Goosefeet Gear medium sized down pillow. Very nice combo and 6.35oz. Not UL but I don’t care. :)
You can try out "our pillow: its the rival communist version of "my pillow"

I'd rather use a rock for a pillow over giving money to mypillow owner Mike Lindell.
Amen. Screw that traitorous shiller of autocratic conspiracy and propaganda
i think Mike might need the money.
The My Pillow could be the absolute greatest pillow ever made (which it isn't), but I draw the line at doing business with traitors.
