To be fair, that wasn't your typical mono red player. Seems to me like they had quite an off the beaten path deck and they actually played perfectly, maximizing every point of damage and killing the Seraph on the spot before it snowballed. If anything else, that's the mono red player I'd like to encounter on ladder, instead of the ones with the copy pasted Swiftspear decks. GG to FancyFX, their ranking in top 1000 seems well deserved to me by watching that game.
Any non-aggro deck will lose to aggro, that's just how the shuffler goes. A deck to beat aggro nowdays has to include anti-aggro specific removal like those "kill attacking thing, gain 2 life" removals or anti-aggro boardwipes like Divine Purge and Temporary Lockdown.
@@MetalHev No, that's just the way the current meta is. Monored currently has multiple cards in standard that can efficiently generate card advantage while doing damage to face. Which is what happened to CGB, and what I've experience many times both playing and defending against monored.

The reason for mono red popularity could be this is usually the cheapest deck that wins fast or loses fast so it’s the best to grind daily achievements fast.
What I do is build Historic Decks to "PLAY 40 land" "CAST 40 creatures" "Play 40 Green Creatures" You get the idea, that way you have more access to cards that specially do that. These decks don't care to Win, it's just to get those long grinds out of the way. To grind the Wins Mono Red could be the answer to that too, it's all preference at that point. This suggestion is just for those annoying longer dailies.
For fast wins, just queue with Rusko and 99 basics in Historic Brawl. Half of your opponents concede before you even played your first land, and if they don't, you can just requeue... (I usually queue with an actual Rusko deck, so even if they don't concede I have a chance to win, but that's not as cheap in wildcards).
The wildcards don't matter as much as people make it out to be. Mono red is just the best deck in bo1 till diamond. Plat and below is just bad players for the most part and mono red just punishes misplays the hardest. Mono white is a better deck and super close to wildcard cost.
Mono-Blue Tempo would like a word... but I take your point. The deck is easy to learn, easy to pilot, fast-paced and quite fun. Tempo is a difficult archetype to learn, and even harder to play correctly, when you get good at it you feel like a god but most people don't have the energy to learn it.
@@itsthekid9815 True. I don't enjoy playing Mono-Red, it's just too linear, so my semi-budget deck of choice is Mono-Blue in Standard and Boros Heroic in Explorer. Heroic in particular is a beast on ladder, it is so fast that it gets under aggro decks sometimes, but the sequencing of 3-5 cantrips a turn keeps it complex and interesting to play.
It made sense for the first one, since at that point the board wasn't wide enough to incentivize an attack with squee, not sure what made him hold the ossification though that seemed very straightforward
Thank you CGB for all the vids :) really appreciate the different decks you play. I may be wrong, but after playing with obliterator in mono black and seeing vindicator in the vid, they feel like “win more” type of cards. Quite simply, there are many farming the dailies to establish a great f2p collection, myself included. It's simply the fastest deck so WotC implicitly makes me run monored until I have the 15 wins after ~1h. I'd love to play any cool decks as I have barely any wildcards but I can't without progressing, so to enter the stage where I can actually have fun I have to put myself and others into misery for around 8 months. I can't believe you didn't play the Ossification on Squee and just passed the turn. Going wide is the one way red can beat Vindicator, just don't give them the option.
I feel like the bigger mistake was not playing Seraph on 3 against the 2 1/1s. If they kill the Seraph, fine they get 2 damage in and then you play Vindicator and stop the attacks at a higher lifetotal (17 vs 15) and have an additional removal spell in hand for Squee/Hordemaster which you can more comfortably play in your scenario.

Vindicator is very good in control decks. Specifically a monowhite control super friends deck focusing around planeswalkers and "The Eternal Wanderer" as a whole. Lots of sweepers, lots of card draw from Wedding Announcement, Tosicas Welcome and some welcoming vampires. (Naturally all Chump blockers) Then removal such as Valorus Stance that can be used to protect Vindicator (Your now unkillable wall) Since it completely counters Red, Green and even is hard for blue to deal with in a control setting. With Valorus Stance it can't be removed by black and that just leaves other white decks as a problem.
I only play best of 3 and my sideboard has 4 x Parasitic Grasp and 3x Circuit Mender, purely to hate on Mono Red. The only way I win the first game is if I'm on the play and get a bit lucky, the only way they wins games 2 and 3 is if they get lucky. Mythic rank best of 3 doesn't have much mono red.

Could someone explain to me how in the first game at 7:04 his opponent was allowed to have 2 Kaito planeswalkers out at a time? I know the card names are different but the planeswalker uniqueness rule should still apply because in their subtype they are both, "Kaito."
That rule has been obsolete since Ixalan. From the Comprehensive Rules (February 3, 2023-Phyrexia: All Will Be One) 306.4. Previously, planeswalkers were subject to a “planeswalker uniqueness rule” that stopped a player from controlling two planeswalkers of the same planeswalker type. This rule has been removed and planeswalker cards printed before this change have received errata in the Oracle card reference to have the legendary supertype. Like other legendary permanents, they are subject to the “legend rule” (see rule 704.5j).
Reds the most popular deck because you can pretty much just play your cards without much thinking. I play it when I want my daily wins but I'm doing something else.
It’s also the first deck (that actually wins) that most people have access to, esp if f2p. I think that’s a large part of the reason we see so many of them, it seems to be the most popular suggestion for new players who don’t want to waste wildcards until they know for sure which deck they want to invest them in. Mono blue is also a cheap one, but for new players mono red is much easier to pilot (it requires literally zero thought or strategy lol). Not that mono blue is hard to navigate or anything, but by comparison mono red requires even less forethought/strategizing.
Wait, I'm confused, I've been watching this channel for years, and he waits till NOW, of all times, to finally tell us he hates Mono Red?! Seriously?!?!
I feel the same way about Blue but more especially, Blue players. I really hate the way they sit wasting my time while they closely examine their ar**holes, as though playing Blue takes great intelligence and skill. They are not master players, they are really just playing a number of unfair cards that should never have been printed. A good example of this stupidity would be Haughty Djinn + any number of assorted counters and instant speed, card advantage. Have you ever played a game of Magic where you actually didn't get to play any card except land and then get smacked a couple of times by a 10/4 Djinn over a period of half an hour? This type of Magic is antisocial and does not provide the opponent with the ability to do anything meaningful during the game. I understand that playing Blue provides these snivelling little wimps with those feelings of success and achievement the rest of us experience every day in the real world. I get we now live in a world of political correctness where even these losers should get a trophy but why should they be allowed to waste my time?
Silly cgb. Don’t you know arena by now. You make a deck to take down the 95% of meta decks in standard and then arena laughs at you and makes you play decks that are only good against your deck

Could someone explain to me how in the first game at 7:04 his opponent was allowed to have 2 Kaito planeswalkers out at a time? I know the card names are different but the planeswalker uniqueness rule should still apply because in their subtype they are both, "Kaito."
That rule got changed years ago, planeswalkers just have the normal legendary rule now.
That rule has been obsolete since Ixalan.
From the Comprehensive Rules (February 3, 2023-Phyrexia: All Will Be One)

We all know you hate mono-red
Match maker is fine
I hate mono red. My father hated them too, even before they made him lose 600 Rank points.
whenever I build an "anti-meta" deck I never get the chance to actually be matched against such deck XD. It's like they know ...🤔
Gobbos Strong
bring back meathook!!!
You hate mono red? This is a shocking revelation, having never seen a single one of your videos ever these last x number of years
I came here for some Dashboard Confessional and all I got was this guy talking about colors and calling himself the best of one. 😂. JK. Your awesome 👏
It's the best deck for beginners, just some people stay as beginners which is fine. They are cool 😎
SO the one deck it can't beat . . .
CGB please cut the in video advertisement.

Day 31.... (shhh don't tell them) of asking for a heart ❤️
Except who cares about beating mono red when 80% of the decks you play against are Black or Black + Another color.
Second
I HATE mono red too. IMO such brainless decks. Sorry for offending those who run/main it but that’s just my thoughts and opinion. 🤷♂️
Silly cgb. Don’t you know arena by now. You make a deck to take down the 95% of meta decks in standard and then arena laughs at you and makes you play decks that are only good against your deck
