The velociraptor size issue in Jurassic Park was less movie magic and more an issue of writing choice. Michael Crichton worked with paleontologist John Ostrom who was basically the world's foremost expert on deinonychus. After some time working with it, Crichton apologetically swiped the name "velociraptor" and applied it to his otherwise accurate (for the time of writing) deinonychus. The movie was based on deinonychus, but producers decided not to update its appearance with the new consensus that it was likely feathered.
Thank you for all of the nice comments! The claws all sold within 12 hours! I truly appreciate the support. Because I want more people to have the opportunity to purchase, I’ll be working on casting some more this week for those who missed them. Be sure to check the link again in a few days.
Nice work. Charge more for your work. You put a lot of time and effort into production. There is an old quote that goes something like, "The artisan is worthy of his hire."
I bought a claw as a birthday gift for my son. You might consider setting up a Patreon to help offset the cost of the videos. I don't think you would have too much trouble getting some patrons
Great idea. I am casting Deinonychus killing claws to sell to the tourists that come to Big Bend National Park in SW Texas. Interesting fact about these dinosaurs - Velociraptor remains have only been found in China and Mongolia while Deinonychus remains were found in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Oklahoma.
Awesome job! I had planned on doing velociraptor claws after I saw your trilobite video, but now I'll have to think of something else. XD Nice video, keep 'em coming!
@@precisionhaze6594 hey now, no need to be rude. And I care. I don't want a reputation as the guy who rips off bigger channels for views. I try to be as original as I can.
How does that epoxy 3-D printer work? How is it just able to 'pull' printed parts out of no where? Usually when I see 3-D printers they involve an extruder and print the parts from the bottom up on a solid platform. But this printer seems to 'pull' the part out of the liquid epoxy. I can't visualize how something like that would work??
The velociraptors were the size of a larger dromeosaur called deinonychus (spelling). Velociraptors are actually the size of a medium sized turkey or dog.
Bro I really love your videos, I have seen them lately and I am completely hypnotized, normally I don't comment much and less in English, but I just wanted to say that I like them a lot and that curiously I was just thinking about the size of the claws of Jurassic Park when you explained it, at that moment my mind exploded because I felt like you answered me hahaha Greetings from Mexico ❤️🦖🇲🇽
I had an idea to make fossil casts a few years back but only came to building a forge recently, great minds, really like your attention to detail, not many people know that raptor claw size fun fact, true jurrasic park fan, well done and all the best.
Ich hab vor dreissig Jahren solche Klauen aus Gips gegossen und kunstvoll bemalt . Die Dinger wirkten, auch wegen ihres realen Gewichts, wie echt:) Aber aus Metall sind sie natürlich haltbarer :) I cast claws like this out of plaster thirty years ago and artistically painted. Things were, also because of her real weight, like real:) But made of metal, of course, they are more durable :)
What you need to do next is find a dig site and toss one of these in there so that way some poor archaeologist will start wondering how some velociraptors had metal claw’s
Utah raptor was used in Jurassic park movies but the name velociraptor sounded cooler so they went with that despite it being smaller. I work at a steel foundry and this is fun to watch. Thanks for the vids
I know Utah likes to claim that, but the books and movies use deinonychus. Utahraptor wasn't described scientifically until literally the same month the film hit theaters, long after it had been shot and even longer after the book was written.
Are the tools you use for removing and pouring the crucible home made or bought? If bought could you provide a link, but if home made would you consider maybe doing a video on how you made them?
@@robinson-foundry I really hope you do, i think they will be helpful to a lot of people. I have seen many metal melting/casting videos, and you can always find questions about the tongs used. It's hard to find a good practical pair online and for a affordable price for just the hobby caster. One of the best i saw was by a guy called Brian Oltrogge. He did say he was planning on putting his into production, but then never did.
These are absolutely beautiful, you've done an amazing job on these. If you're interested, innoculating your bronze with a small amount of PhosCopper will increase fluidity for much finer/thinner castings.
Love the content I am just starting out doing casting so I can use the metals in my pen and ring making any tips. Also what is the 3D printer you use. Keep making informative content. Ray from NY
such a shame to come here 4 months to late to see them already gone :( will subscripe and hope you will make more or another awesome casting later :) good job and looking forward to more :)
The short answer is yes, casting sand can be reused. However, rejuvenation is often required to ensure the best result possible on castings incorporating previously used sand.
You are selling those for way to little. I was expecting $50 at least. Keep in mind, under valuing your own work also hurts other artist because you undercut everyone's actual value.

That was brilliant! So many ideas watching the inspiring textures, colors and shapes. You did a great job! Thank you!

Dude, your castings are top-shelf. Congratulations on the sales!
I got the last of the original batch. Just came in today. Outstanding work!
I’m surprised they took that long...
Excellent work.
Now if only these where based on a real velociraptor and not jurrasic park. They do look great though.

Why don t you use Nordic gold alloy for make these castings
I can, I just prefer tin bronze.
Think you could do some sort of skull using bronze?
Working on some now!
@@robinson-foundry hopefully it's human head sized haha

and the second project, silicon casting that annoying kid's face from the jurassic park...
Those claws really did look good, very nice work on them.
Thank you!
Imagine: if rl velociraptor claws were made of bronze and they spawned with bronze plated armour.
The bigger claws belonged to Utah raptors, velociraptor sounds cooler though. ;)
Ill buy one form you, however I want it to be made of 24k gold. Is that something you can do if I pay the extra money?
Put a handle on one, Sharpen it up; Would make for an absolutely sick pocket knife.

You should print all bones for a whole velociraptor. That could be such a cool project to watch, but also in the end very cool for you to have.
Are you able to pour the unused photosensitive resin back in the container and use it again?
What is the cost factor as opposed to filament media?
whole skeleton of velociraptor / other dinosaur (on some reasonable scale) xD

I have a forge.
I have the wood and materials to do this.

it be cool if you would make a Spinosaurus tooth out of sliver, cause i would so buy one if it's made of metal
I want to buy this... Plz share the Amazon link
You should've made one razor sharp. That would be cool
If you just leave it the way they came out of the mold they look like drones XD
Try to make a mini "Digital Grotesque"🙏
sell on ebay...lol Get a metal 3-D printer problem solved

With your foundry furnace, doesn't the flame damage your graphite crucible? I've seen videos where it cracks it (NileRed's gold video iirc).

Shouldn't you cover the printer to stop the resin reacting to the UV in the room/sky?
