@sterlingash3870 game they're new to but familiar with the engine and/or control scheme. Some of their skills carry over, but they don't know exactly how much. I feel that would make for a more interesting watch
i think maybe they shouldn't know the specific game, or if they do then it should be an older/day one version (since these likely have the most glitches) where they wouldn't know the exact technique

To be fair it gets a lot harder when the player is really really trying for it and reloading is hardly the biggest consequence in the world. Esp neighborhood, its a well made game, but still 30 seconds since... well player actively trying and they only have to reload to fix it
@zomtron I suppose one upside of the fact that the softlock is so early on is that you don't lose much progress when you need to reload. Softlocking in, say, the Afton fight in Security Breach, on the patch before they added the Atrium save, on the other hand... Well, I know I'd rage quit.
If you get a group of people who know the game inside and out and are going out of their way you can probably soft lock damn near any game no matter how well made it is
My favorite thing about Backseat and Secret of the Mimic is that he goes through so many different A-names that I have no idea what the player character is actually called anymore
That 4 second soft lock is a hilarious twist I did not see coming. Had me laughing for the entirety of the segment after that reveal, which isn't long cuz it's just a 4 second soft lock, but it still counts.

Then you calculate the average of each team iteratively after each round. This gives even a math savvy viewer the ability to have an idea of how fast a team would have to go in the next round to be competitive, which adds a little tension
No My Friendly Neighbour is actually a completely different game from different devs. Tbh kinda a strange choice to include it but I guess it also has neighbour in the name so it counts

Before watching the video I expected SB to take the longest because it's so broken it's almost a sandbox game. Which can be tough to create a softlock in.

Oddly satisfying how Team Freddy has 3 perfect choices for games to go through. Hello Neighbor has technically a lot but not a proper "3 games" and had to find a perfect 3rd choice. And Poppy Playtime had more than enough perfect choices to go through that some had to be cut.
Sotm actually has a sub minute softlock if you combine telekinesis and full screen clipping at the very start in the van, letting you deload the game and jump into the void

I'd pointed out the save station one in Freddy's room (requires saving and quitting and reloading, but you'll respawn there for the guaranteed soft lock once you get out of bounds by first aid if that's in current patch). Edit: I watched another 5 minutes and, yes, I was right, but added another step that wasn't needed lol
I wasn't upset but I was shocked considering out of all three groups (With the exception of my friendly neighborhood which I'd consider a pretty good game and better than poppy's playtime) I would consider the poppy's playtime games to be the most well made. All of the other games have basically become notorious for being half assed and/or buggy products while the poppy's playtime chapters seem to overall be pretty okay and decent quality.

If you plan for other competitive game-breaking events like this, maybe you could do a glitch-marathon next? Each game is given a set time that they need to be completed in, maybe based on the specific game’s length or the same for each game, and within that time, the goal is to cause or witness as many glitches as possible. If the player does not complete the game in time, all glitches they achieved are null, and they instantly lose. It would be event about achieving as many glitches as possible, while also pacing yourself optimally to ensure you actually finish the game. You might even be able to get speed runners from the discords involved to play the games separately, since this event puts greater importance on the individual knowledge and skill in each game.
I would like to say, in Hello Neighbor 2 (most recent patch) you CAN jump through the Van's roof, which makes this not a softlock. Most speedrunners use it to get out of the tutorial so they don't have to do it. Cheers!

...man, I'd be kinda mad about Secret of the Mimic straight up stealing My Friendly Neighborhood's premise if it weren't for the fact that one of those games is way more interesting.
Another hardware dependent way to softlock yourself in SOTM is that while the formal gates between the areas will hold you in place while the new area loads in, there are side doors where you can run so fast you can outpace loading all fall into the void. But even without the hardware aspect, I think you have to get relatively far into a run to gain access to any such doors
i would’ve loved to see a few of the Bendy games on this roster, but i think the participants you chose were the perfect picks for a pilot run of this series idea! if you end up doing more of these (which i REALLY hope you do cuz this was fun and hilarious) please oh PLEASE include Bendy and The Ink Machine, as well as its successors Dark Revival and Lone Wolf (or Secrets of The Machine)!!
There was originally a Bendy team when I was coming up with the concept but I ran out of time and so had to cut the teams to 3. The exact games you mentioned were on the team too!

i really want more of this (im def biased here) but the original BATIM as you know is pretty glitchy though the sequel BATDR is more hard to find soft locks and glitches, oh and obviously garten of banban
I REALLY hope this sort of Broken Games competition becomes a recurring series. I’m not normally keen on mascot horror games, or horror games in general, but I LOVE glitch hunting and you present these softlocks in an astoundingly entertaining way. If you’re willing to step outside of horror, I suspect you could do a TON of really fun tournaments like these for a bunch of different genres

fnaf being the 3rd one is so cool ngl, that means that fnaf is the least buggy game, even if that's less fun
Another hardware dependent way to softlock yourself in SOTM is that while the formal gates between the areas will hold you in place while the new area loads in, there are side doors where you can run so fast you can outpace loading all fall into the void. But even without the hardware aspect, I think you have to get relatively far into a run to gain access to any such doors

i would’ve loved to see a few of the Bendy games on this roster, but i think the participants you chose were the perfect picks for a pilot run of this series idea! if you end up doing more of these (which i REALLY hope you do cuz this was fun and hilarious) please oh PLEASE include Bendy and The Ink Machine, as well as its successors Dark Revival and Lone Wolf (or Secrets of The Machine)!!
There was originally a Bendy team when I was coming up with the concept but I ran out of time and so had to cut the teams to 3. The exact games you mentioned were on the team too!

I would have liked to see Hello Guest fill in the third slot for that series. Actually fun concept and way better than what hello neighbor games became
Dying light would be a fun game and maybe more challenging to softlock
i really want more of this (im def biased here) but the original BATIM as you know is pretty glitchy though the sequel BATDR is more hard to find soft locks and glitches, oh and obviously garten of banban
I REALLY hope this sort of Broken Games competition becomes a recurring series. I’m not normally keen on mascot horror games, or horror games in general, but I LOVE glitch hunting and you present these softlocks in an astoundingly entertaining way. If you’re willing to step outside of horror, I suspect you could do a TON of really fun tournaments like these for a bunch of different genres
