My God .. brings back memories from the 70's. We were students and we bought every jazz funk/fusion LP we found and went to club concerts every weekend with local and international bands in this genre. And there was a lot of them. Allthough they still exist, today its harder to find bands playing music demanding something from the audience. Not everything evolve for the better..
& before the corporate takeover of radio,, Urban black radio stations in the 70's would play grooves like this in the evenings, late at nite & on the weekends
I read comments all the time on RUclips how such good music as this is gone forever. No it's not! Here it is in all it's glory right on the pages of RUclips for all to share! This is the greatest music preservation site in the world, fed by uploaders like yourself. Never take it for granted.
N - I - C - E Track (Jam) 🎸 🎵 🎷 🎵 🎹 🎵 🎺Enjoyin' it Lovin' it most of all "FEEL' IN" it ...Smooooth. Cool Jaz-z-z to listen on a lazzzy eazzzy breezzzy Sunday. Like I'm right now 😜 ... THANKS A BUNCH ✌☺ 🌈 ...
this album was must listening in my nieghborhood...this was how we learned.....years later I met Steve Gutierrez hanging out at a salsa gig at that German place in Torrence....what a nice cat. we used to call that style of bass playing spank-a-lee. as in "SPANK iT!!!!!" (from Headhunters)
Bobby Lyle.....and the others back in the 1970's when Capitol Records signed Jazz Musicians, produced some high quality music. Raul DeSouza, et al......great music.
I love Bobby Lyle - loads more I could say i.e Norman Connors connection, Wayne Henderson, Starship Orchestra..etc. All big love to them..just enjoy..!
So true You are my starship one of da best Phyllis hyman and Michael Henderson... Loved Bubbles, always makes me smile... Wayne Henderson and Crusaders- da best RIP Joe Samples- never to be replicated
Finally found The Genie on CDJapan. It sounds so clean takes me back to da dayz of vinyl. Just turned off da lights and absorbed the grooves while watching da turntable strobe lol. Found my vinyl while movin stuff, these were da LPs I wouldn't throw out
This song was also performed by Ronnie Laws. Small wonder since Bobby Lyle and Laws were both produced by Wayne Hederson during this period. Excellen post.
#SmoothJazz
This version is just as breezy cool as Ronnie Laws'. The featured difference is the trumpet solo instead of the sax...the musicians are the same on both albums along with the same producer (Wayne Henderson).
Nice, and different from his best, "Poinciana." I thought he might be same-same and was pleasantly surprised to find he has variety of style and sound.
I think this is the second version, The first is with George Benson, Ronnie something and I think Washington Grover and Bobby too. Might be other versions.

Composer?
@@Mr300millz Probably Lyle himself.
Donnie Beck was my dad. He was a true musical genius.
Wow! Absolutely Amazing Instrumental JAZZ R&B SOUL Masterpiece of Incredible Sound. One of 1977 very best 🎹 🎸🎶

Love both Ronnie and Bobby's versions but this version is sicker with the bass and keyboards/electric piano.

Who originally wrote this? Bobby Lyle, or Ronnie Laws?
m
John Smith Bobby Lyle was the writer of this. Ronnie is most famous for it because of sale's of his "Fever" LP. (1976)
Ronnie got it from Bobby.
