I've controlled the entire big map in single player before. Just maintain control of what you have and slowly expand into unclaimed areas. When someone invades you take em out and take their land that's now vacant.

This is the hardest game mode for me, you have to use a fast and aggressive playstyle or you quickly loose huge areas.
but it is also the most fun if you're playing as a team cuz it feels like a warzone
