He's always had a special relationship with DT. I think it's obvious, and the fact that so many players had returned to celebrate coach and CD tells what coach /CD have built there. More than just wins/championships, etc. they gave these young women the skills to go out in the world and get it done. Somone in chat here said, proud father and I think that is spot on. I am born and raised in the great state of Connecticut ( til I was 26 and split) and am proud to say I bleed blue. Cograts Coach Geno and Coach CD.
So good to see so many former players like Molly Bent, Azura Stevens. Taurasi's speech hit my heart. That mention of the talks in the driveway was so personal and heartfelt, Geno wept over it. Me too.
What has been given very little attention over the last 40-years, and even today, Geno's super power, the biggest achievement in his life, is not building championship women's basketball teams--it's building championship women. Whether in basketball after graduation or in the world at large, these women are prepared to take on anything that is thrown at them. Geno instills a sense of focus, team-first/me-last, and we MUST succeed. As Sue said, "Get better every day!" Congratulations, Geno and CD.
@motherofthreeb6337 lol hows kevin durrant, harden, kyrie did they win? How about paul, harden, Westbrook, kawhi Lenard did they win. Charles barkely, drelexer, akem the dream, did they win. Lol. Geno turned these kids to stars bro.
I didn't see Kara Wolters there but she was on TV talking about this event. She's the player I most identified with over the years - Big Girl #52 from the 1995 championship team. Outstanding player and brilliant analyst for the sport.
The Mt Rushmore of UConn Womens Basketball spoke (they probably would have had the five greatest but Stewie was not there). Disappointed that SNY did not have the studio guys at Gampel instead though. This was the one night to do it. Either that or they should have just given Wolters the night off. You can tell how much the big girl wanted to be at Gampel...
There is a bond that binds all the UConn alumni together and it should be celebrated but Geno Auriemma and all the WNBA players and sports commentators need to stop putting down players that did not come through UConn.
The amazing thing that is never talked about is how many more Championships UConn would have if not for all the injuries. Sue, Shea,Sveta, and some I’m forgetting, and more recently Katie Lou, Paige, Azzi and others. Conservatively, perhaps as many as 4 or 5. But, of course that is the nature of athletics and unfortunately women are prone to certain injuries.
A weak conference for forty years a weak schedule for thirty years - accounts for 90% of their wins … love it when he cry’s like a baby😢- if he don’t win natty this year / THE PAT SUMMITT CURSE IS REALITY 🏀
Having stacked teams made his job easy. How about going to a team that doesn’t get the best recruits? See if he can make a winner out of them. Hey how about the NBA?
Name me a team that won a national title without the best recruits. And UConn's first Final Four was achieved without "best recruits". You climb on the glass to not recognize the merits of a program that brought and maintained women's basketball at a national level. Not alone, but while the supporting teams have come and gone over time, UConn has always been present
Ha how about those orther coaches who had over thousands wins.geno wanted one hundred percent from his players he got way more than that.thats what made UConn so great
He got there in 1985. He literally built the program. It took him 10 years to win his first title. He went to a team that was only in its 5th year of existence and never won 10 games.
Proud father moment ❤❤❤

Absolutely love Maya Moore.❤️

Great coaching through the years. Many legends in the house.

maya more and dinana two of greatest goats of woman basketball of all time from the same school. I wonder why!
Stacked teams don't impress me!

5:10 Rebecca Lobo, the one who started it all.
I love you girls. I love you Geno. And I love you Huskies. I'm proud to be from your state and proud to have met you Coach❤❤
Just amazing!
Just looking at all the past greats paying tribute to the greatest coach in WCBB history is amazing. Btw, was Stewie there?
This is special.

Exactly. It takes away from their greatness by being such poor sports.
❤❤❤
Husky national for life!
The goat and his herd!
For all my Huskie's fans, who/what is Ted's?
Local campus bar
lol. All this time I thought they were talking about Ted Talks.
Greatness 🤩
Only UConn would make this a spectacle

He's been a extra great coach and had such great players and he taught them to play as a team just out standing

Sue Bird is kind of cute. Too bad she has no plans with a man.
Don’t like him since his put down of CC and her fans. Thought he had seen the light but then came out his big investment in Unrivalled.
Nobody gives a *** about CC. Not everything is about her. Yall act like the girl invented effing sliced bread. Get over yourselves.
How can someone so impactful say the most ridiculous comments regarding CC? He still hasn’t apologized.
Boo hiss except love myia
Don’t like him after what he said about CC, especially after his investment in Unrivaled came out.

It takes a special kind of coach to develop the already developed
@lexibrowning7447 yes but when the talent is already there, the work is easier.
Look at those who came to honor Geno. The greatest of the greats. THAT alone speaks volumes about Geno & CD 👏🏼👏🏼💙💙🥹🥹
