When I was 4 (now 21) my best friend was my neighbor (a 94 year old woman). She was the grandmother I never had. She had so many older musicians on vinyl and Frank Sinatra was one of them. We'd always dance to him in her living room. I grew up with his music 💜 one of my favorite artists of all time.
A guy named Anderson, slightly drunk, came home to South Pasadena from a party on Bunker Hill with his wife in 1948, and this song was playing in their '48 Merc. She fiddles with the house keys, and they eventually make it inside. He whispers in her ear, "just the way you look tonight". 70 years later, 2018, I, Mr. Martinez, slightly drunk from a West LA get together, pulls into the same driveway, and after listening to the same exact song in our 2011 Dodge, whispers in my wife's ear, "just the way you look, tonight". Romance and Frankie Blue Eyes is sort of a timeless thing.
The purpose of these comments is NOT to ridicule the entertainer or make fun or spend countless months making fun of the lyrics. The idea of the comment page is to enjoy the music, thank the entertainer for providing it and the person for taking time to provide it for us. Great Video/music thanks
WOW Wonderful song sung by ( in my opinion ) the supreme male popular vocalist of all time,Frankie. The way he shapes the lyrics & his timing is incredible. Of course the brilliant backing helps also. From a 71yo Aussie fan. Don't let us forget his fabulous voice.
I dj'd dances in OK for about 3 years... weddings..particularly...there was NEVER a more romantic and swinging song than this song...with Francis Albert and The Count...just tap your foot and listen to these fantastic lyrics...they are..the best!
Just something about his songs (and any song from this era really) that just tugs on my heart and brings me to a happy place. Now if only “music” nowadays could be so effortlessly beautiful and timeless like this that’ll be wonderful 👍🏽💯
Jerome Kern, Dorothy Fields, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, and George Stevens brought me here! 1936-2016, 80 years and still going strong! Thanks for the memories Frank.
+JustMe astaire defines this song, as sung to ginger. swing time is their best and this song defines american popular music.even sinatra is taken by it.
I love these old songs. I remember so clearly my Mom listening and singing along very softly and she so enjoyed and that led me to liking them too. I do agree we need more of these now aday's.
Lembro que enviei essa musica para minha madrinha, que era minha segunda mãe, ela estava morrendo de cancer. Agora vejo como a letra é linda, ela tinha um sorriso que iluminava todos a volta. Essa música tocará em meu casamento.😢😢
Thank You for putting this on youtube. I hope you keep this on for a while. My Daughter used this song for her first dance with her husband at her wedding.....thanks again
C'mon, guys, cut this guy some slack. Sure, the posted lyrics leave a lot to be desired, both in spelling and in punctuation. But, what the heck, his heart was in the right place, he wants to share his enthusiasm for a truly great song..
Just to get back to musical essential: Great recording, great phrasing etc. 32 bar tune. 16 bars - 8 bars repeated, bridge (major scale) in a key a minor third above the first 16 bars. Final 8 bars back to initial key. The bridge and turnaround back to the A form are one of the best vocals and orchestrations I have heard. Also thanks to Nelson Riddle - since I think he orchestrated this. Besides this technical stuff - this is such a great tune and lyrics by the late, great Jerome Kern.
Just forget the small lyrics that are in the corner. They’re not correct sometimes but can we just admire this absolute wonder of a REAL song and not anything from this generation. It’s perfect for the holiday season
This song will always have a place in my heart...makes me feel like I'm in love for the first time all over again. Bittersweet memories, but forever a beautiful song ❤️
Thought I would be kicking back and listening to Ol" Blue Eyes! Boy was I wrong.......thanks for adding the lyrics.....apparently I've been singing it all wrong! Haha
lyrics Some day, when I'm awfully low When the world is cold I will feel a glow just thinking of you And the way you look tonight Yes, you're lovely, with your smile so warm And your cheeks so soft There is nothing for me but to love you And the way you look tonight With each word your tenderness grows Tearin' my fear apart And that laugh, wrinkles your nose Touches my foolish heart Lovely, never, never change Keep that breathless charm Won't you please arrange it? 'Cause I love you A-just the way you look tonight And that laugh that wrinkles your nose It touches my foolish heart Lovely, don't you ever change Keep that breathless charm Won't you please arrange it? 'Cause I love you A-just the way you look tonight Mm, mm, mm, mm, Just the way you look tonight
Mr. S, my favorite poem is IF by Rudyard Kipling. When you return, read it every chance you get and it will help you. I also like a poem that says, "So many religions, so many creeds that wind and wind; when all this sad world needs is the art of being kind.
regardless of my brace on modern society, i feel like i was born in the wrong time, what i would give to be in there glamor, the suits, the music, the making potential of america. thanks for posting good music killa haha
Higher cancer rates, higher poverty, higher infant mortality rate, segregation, racism, intense war, you keep on fantasizing about the glamor but just remember why we've come this way. History is absolutely atrocious; I'd recommend trying to transform the culture to have this in their daily intake of media verses the other shit they keep aspiring to. Totally agree that I'd love to be in a suit experiencing the great music forefathers in their primes, but I wouldn't like the baggage of the rest of the time period and I don't think you would either.
Jerome Kern/Dorothy Fields's wonderful romantic ballad "The Way You Look Tonight", earned the attention of the fabulous Frank Sinatra's incomparable jazzy performance, directed this beautiful ballad to supreme heights. The orchestra gave wonderful support & their performance was always on the radar with Sinatra's style & interpretation of this beautiful music. Peter Farrar.

How many of people that are 18 and younger still listening to the good old classics?
Hey Rick. I read recently that Frank Sinatra is huge among many of the young people today.
I Love Franks music and I am 53

'Frank Sinatra Immortal' with this Song. Whose not gonna fetch this up for listening in a few hundred years?
Good 'ol blue eyes! My grandad used to love his music before he passed away 1 week before Lockdown.

And not to mention possibly autocorrected. We've all been a victim of it.
Stacy Wood Hey, Stace, are we related?
Hey, Jim! Quite possibly.. Do you have family in Arizona?
Stacy Wood No, 'fraid not, Stacy. My folks were from the South. I love the Flagstaff area, though.
that's what caught my eye, when the word 'worm' instead of 'warm' but I'd overlooked it because--- Ol' Blue Eyes.....love his songs, no matter.
There will NEVER be another Frank Sinatra!
How are you doing dear ?
這是我聽過最棒的歌曲,來自一位傳奇歌手坲蘭克,可惜整個youtube找不到中文翻譯的版本,希望有作者可以翻譯成中文,讓東方人了解這位偉大的歌手❤
Amazing lovely rendition , a great singer, to the heart and for lovers only, immortal , forever tune, I fell in love just that moment

Dorothy Fields wrote the lyrics.
Yep that sure sounds like Nelson Riddle's orchestration!
Benjamin David totally agree!
Riddle was his best back up orchestra. Haven't heard anything even comparable in arrangements. Ever.
Haing no music education --- HUH? Just darn good music

maybe the greatest love song ever. I also love "can't take my eyes off of you" & "I've got you under my skin." All classics.
lyrics
Some day, when I'm awfully low

I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight
Yes, you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft
There is nothing for me but to love you

With each word your tenderness grows
Tearin' my fear apart
And that laugh, wrinkles your nose
Touches my foolish heart
Lovely, never, never change

And that laugh that wrinkles your nose
It touches my foolish heart
Lovely, don't you ever change
