    Wonderful tips as always! I decided to set up additional macros for ally tokens (showing health bar to players) and enemy tokens (hiding health bar). Also having individual macros for generic or unique characters. Never again will I be manually linking and unlinking HP to the token bar to set HP for generic monsters! Amazing.

    Encounter Helper is great for any game system. (I use 2E AD&D, so I'm lucky enough to be able to use the RPGMaster API/Mod series...)
    I've got an expanded version that also allows lights to be moved to and fro between GM and Walls/Light layer, so (as I did last night when the players allowed a beam of moon light to hit a crsytal cluster) it allows me to really quickly switch out the lighting using the same system. (numerous lights can be grouped as per monsters and turned on and off with one click). I use it in conjunction with Keith's Dynamic Lighting to great effect.
    It also allows me to move scenery tokens to the map layer from any other layer. So I can transpose debris, rubble, or a broken bridge for example with a few simple clicks through the same control panel. Or perhaps turn a Map Layer Statue into a living monster with one click.
    You can do that with EH, but it drops them onto the Token layer, so scenery can get in the way of controling active characters.
    Unfortunately the guy who amended the EH Mod to do this for me is kind of shy about publishing his work.

    • @NickOlivo

      Thanks for the kind words! I don't have a video on that specific topic, but the code for the GM Utils macro is in the video description. It's a Chat Menu, as described here - wiki.roll20.net/Chat_Menus

    I need to check out Encounter Helper.

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  Год назад +1

      It's a great mod, and saves a ton of time.

    • @andrewtomlinson5237
      @andrewtomlinson5237 Год назад +1

      It's great, but has way more potential. If ALL the layers were opened up, it would allow lights and scenery to be manipulated as well. A chap made that amended version and I've been using it pretty much constantly to manipulate lighting, monsters, effects and scenery from one control panel, because I can move anything from any layer to any other.
      I use it in conjunction with your Dynamic Lighting mod, but the fellow seems reluctant to publish this brilliant update.

    • @kurtjaegers265
      @kurtjaegers265 Год назад +3

      Hmmm... It's been a while since I did anything with EncounterHelper. Maybe I should look into implementing the other layers.

    • @andrewtomlinson5237
      @andrewtomlinson5237 Год назад

      @@kurtjaegers265 Kurt, it's one of the most useful API/Mods in the system.
      It's one of the first that I recommend to anyone using any game. Because not only is it so useful, its very easy for code-illiterates like me to just pick up and run with!
      It's simple to use and set up, and allows such easy placement of encounters.
      I went on the forums looking for something that could do something similar for lights and objects on the map layer. (I had a couple of maps and one needed a switch between a fixed bridge and - following an explosion, a ruined version of the bridge plus a load of rubble. and another map where I wanted to quickly change between three very different lighting set ups) I asked if anyone knew if there was anything like The Encounter Helper that did similar things for Map Items and Lights, that would take them from the GM layer to their respective "In Game" layers.
      I was contacted by a chap who told me that he had adapted the Encounter Helper code to include the Map and Wall layers and offered to share it with me. He didn't seem very keen on presenting it to the forum, I don't know why... because it is awesome.
      Encounter Helper saved me so much time during games... this addition of the option to drop things onto and remove them from the Map and Wall/Light layers has taken it a step further.

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  Год назад

      Great, I'm glad it was helpful! Two things - first, please don't post the same question on multiple videos. It makes it hard for me to track what I've answered. Also, it's best to direct questions about general Roll20 functionality to the user forums or support, for example, you can find the answer to your question here - app.roll20.net/forum/post/103089/meters/?pageforid=103115#post-103115 Thanks for watching, and happy gaming!

    Thank you for your videos plural :) They are really eye opening!
    Question: I see that a lot of these API Mods only relate to specific game systems. Would there be an easy way to convert them to Call of Cthulhu 7th edition for instance?

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  Год назад

      Glad the vids have been helpful! Many of the mods are dependent upon the D&D 5e character sheet, so there isn't a way to convert them to use a different system's sheet, unfortunately. You can always contact the scripts author to see if that's something they'd be willing to do. Happy gaming!

      Make sure the ability name in the menu needs to exactly match the name of the ability in the character sheet (it's case-sensitive). Double-check that and let me know how it goes.

    Thank you for another helpful video. Can you use the Action Token Mod on the Token page that is usually created for pre made campaigns (token art page)? Lets say there are 50 NPC's/Monsters on that page, can you highlight them all and run the Mod which will update the action token mod for all of the default tokens so when you use them during the campaign, they will always have this running?

    Nick do all these work with CoC and Delta Green and is there anything out there that explains differences in setup for those games?

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  Год назад

      Hi Mary! Encounter Helper, the Dynamic Lighting tool, Path to Windows or Doors, and Token Mod are all system-agnostic and should work with CoC or Delta Green. Note though, that the default setup for Encounter Helper is 5e (described here - wiki.roll20.net/Script:EncounterHelper) and the token mod macro I showed is specific to 5e, so you'd need to change the attributes on the character sheet that the bars are connected to. Token Action Maker only works with 5e and Pathfinder.

      Understood, thanks very much Nick for the reply. Focused on an antique shop that the investigators will be visiting in the near future as they follow up on something but also may find other interesting tidbits inside. Looked at the Checkitout Mod but saw it does not work for CoC So will probably do it old fashion way or with pop ups or a combination of the two. @@NickOlivo

    Hello, I love the videos. I just upgraded today to Pro level. I am running into an issue with the GM Utility list. I copied the macro from comments and when I run it, the menu pops up just like yours but when I select "Create Encounter", it doesn't work. Instead, it says "TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'substring')". Any idea what I am doing wrong? I should say, that when I run the Create Encounter macro itself, it works no problem.

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  11 месяцев назад

      Just to confirm, you've placed all the individual commands into a character sheet as abilities, and the individual ability's names match exactly with what's in the GM Utility macro (e.g., you have a createEncounter ability, a pageList ability, an npcSetup ability, etc)? And then you're running GM Utility from that character sheet, rather than entering it directly in chat?

      I used this same method to create room descriptions on my map. I made attributes for Room 1, Room 2, etc. Put a description in them. Had the main menu show in macro bar. So i can click it, whispers menu to me of the rooms. I select the room and i get the description for the room. Thanks for your help!
