@Brandon, I remember that wait, it was terrible! I am currently reading Patrick Stewart’s Memoir (Making It So, highly recommend) and he has a bit about how he was shocked by how much the show was effecting people. He had someone pull up to him in Los Angeles and shout out “you’ve ruined our summer!” because of the cliffhanger.
I had the pleasure of working on the episode Conspiracy. Did the stop motion for a couple of those shots. Only had one day to setup and animate the shots because of the tight schedule. Thanks for watching this episode. I hadn't seen it for decades.
I heard Roddenberry got "notes" on the climax and sent it back gorier and gorier until they understood that they should shut up! And the is why the end is so over the top. Do you know if that is true?
Fun fact, they were worried that the exploding head scene was too graphic so they had one of the kids of one of the production team watch it. Not only did the kid love it, he suggested they should introduce an 'Exploding Head Remmick' action figure!
its so over the top and unexpected that it actually makes it less disturbing, in my opinion anyway. I only wish that TNG had done more risky stuff like this more often but I'm happy we have this legendary moment.
Star ships like the Enterprise usually have "sonic showers" for getting clean. Worf clearly hates getting wet, so he would hate old-school bathing and showering.

“The Worf Effect” is when a work of fiction presents a character as a strong, competent warrior, usually far moreso than the other characters, and then shows them being soundly defeated by another character, usually a villain, to demonstrate the immense power of said character. 😅🤣😂 But without spoilers and over multiple seasons and even multiple shows, we do get to see Worf kick some butt, too.😁
Worf does do well against *REDACTED* and later gets to kill *EYES ONLY* and also ends up commanding the *RESTRICTED* like a champ. Also can't wait to see Jen watch the sword scene in *TOP SECRET* when he *CLASSIFIED* and then makes tea.
@@LightBluePhoenix Haha. I like the SERIES episode where he helps OTHER_CHARACTER woo SOMEONE by staging a CERTAIN_TYPE_OF fight, and afterward they (the other two, not Worf) BLEEPITY-BLEEP-BLEEP-BLEEP (although that is pretty much entirely off-screen, fortunately). And then a few seasons later Worf finally gets to make personal use of those same skills with SOMEBODY_ELSE, which leads to SOMETHING. Good times.
Picture a Sunday evening way back when this episode aired (in my country) around 7:30pm in a mildly conservative christian family eating dinner in the living room as their son is watching the TNG episode 'Conspiracy' on the TV... The adults are mostly talking to themselves but also regularly tuning in mentally to the show the kid (me) is watching... only for a guy at one point is slowly flayed by phaser fire then explodes... lets just say their expressions we're... amusing.
I should mention that those of us who read star trek novels see many of these one-episode characters and situations brought back for new adventures that watchers of video do not get to experience. ( My favorite is a book called "Dyson Sphere " which picks up where the episode "Relics" left off.) The revived gentleman from this episode who lost all his money went on to find his new place in the federation. Per Memory Alpha - "Ralph Offenhouse was played by Peter Mark Richman. Offenhouse also appears in the novel Debtors' Planet, where he has parlayed his financial expertise - all but obsolete within the Federation - into a new career as an ambassador to the Ferengi Alliance."
this episode really exposes how bad security is, not only can anyone get to the bridge they can do it without being noticed anyone can access those panels without a code and there are new people on board without a security escort.
Neutral Zone is, as she says, important, because having the Romulans in the series is a big deal. I think they originally intended the Ferengi to be the big enemy for TNG, but that didn't really work out (because, among other things, they were depicted a bit too comically; the salesman was more menacing than the Ferengi in that first episode they were in), so then they were like, hmm, with the Klingons being friendly, and the Ferengi not scary enough, and the fans can only stomach Q once or twice a season, so who can we bring in for a _serious_ enemy? Let's see, what other dangerous races do we have from TOS... oh, right, them, yes, of course. Duh. And then we get to TBoBW...
Jen, after being disappointed by this past Saturday's predicted "snowstorm" only putting about an eighth of an inch on the ground, the sentiment expressed on your sweatshirt brought a smile to my face. Thank you.
30:23 Mark! Before the fourth movie, I wondered why they chose "Humans" rather than "Earthlings" but as the fourth movie reminds us, we aren't the only intelligent life on this planet. 😉
I have been anxiously awaiting the Conspiracy reaction. Can’t wait. I’m really looking forward to the TNG film reactions as well, especially Generations.
Fun true fact about Dr. Crusher: Throughout the entire TNG TV series, she never misses a single phaser shot. Surgical precision both on the operating table and in combat.
Re: Gory ending - not only did some of us not see it coming, we didn't see it at all because some channels decided it was a little too much & censored it, we only got the full experience years later with the release of the boxset. As for the cryo-storyline, it's a little forced as they could have assigned people from the crew to manage & help them learn about where they were in time. It's an interesting concept & while everyone you knew would be gone, that's going to be the case for many if they live long enough.
Man, Star Trek Sundays with Jen are so much fun I almost want the weekend to pass quicker so they arrive sooner. _Almost_ :). And there we go, S1 under our belts. As fun as that was, the episodes only get better IMO. S2 here we come !
I watched so much of the original series in syndication as a kid (too young to see it live), and I remember my whole family was excited when TNG came out. But Conspiracy was the first episode that I really really liked. It did something very new for Star Trek and also implied a more serial story. Very cool.
I love Star Trek so much. Thank you Jen for watching it with us. You making these videos is something I look forward to every weekend. Live long and prosper my friends 🖖
The Neutral Zone sets up a lot the return of the Romulans the introduction of the Romulan Warbird the D’deridex Class and sets up a major Villian not only for TNG but for the Trek Universe
You mentioned the Romulan ship being huge. In case you want to know "how huge" exactly...... The Romulan Warbird is roughly double the size of the Enterprise. Fun fact, the design actually doesn't have a visual engine, which is because the model departement simply forgot to add it. Originally it was supposed to be a vertical stripe at the very back of the ship.
From an interview I read from the writers.... originally the Borg we're going to be a bug species. The technology just wasn't there and it was deemed too expensive. Years later, when technology improved, Star Trek Voyager had species 8472, a hive mind bug species.
Once again, I'm having a great time watching these episodes with you. It was so long ago that I watched them that I don't remember most of what happens so it is like watching for the first time.

Eric, my notifications show you sent me a kind reply today, but RUclips won't let me go there. I'm guessing you replied to my comment on today's poll, but the poll isn't showing up now. Anyway, thanks.
As having never watched Star Trek, I hope you do continue the series. As for the last episode I feel like they're doing the classic TV thing, setting up for season 2. As for the humans being brought back, just a little nudge at dealing with your past? and moving forward? Great reaction Jen.
At that point Picard is by the window, several feet behind Riker. The camera angle also appears slightly elevated which would enhance the effect. The clip immediately before has Picard just in front of Riker, and the height difference is only a few inches (slightly above average 5'10" vs somewhat tall 6'2.5")
I love how they're all judgy about the 20th century people. Data's like, "What is to be done with them?" Riker is like, "There's not much to redeem them."
Looking forward to it as always Jen hope you are having a stress free lovely weekend so far 💙 oh and that thumbnail 😮 someone's been in the sun to long and forgot the suncream 😅
Awesome reactions from Jen. Especially to the amazing episode Conspiracy. I can still remember when the episode was originally shown on UK tv, the BBC cut out all of the gross effects from the climax and it wasn't until I purchased it on VHS ( video tape ) that I got to see it! :)
Jen, none of us watching the broadcast that night were ready for the gore. Ending with the sound of the homing signal,....icing on the cake for this horror episode.
When this first aired, I'd gotten through the first season but it wasn't quite "there" for me yet. "The Neutral Zone" with the reappearance of the Romulans...this, for me, is when the series started. It somehow now seemed grounded in the universe I'd known for so long. What a journey since Farpoint.
Man, I can't think of another time I've had something I've looked forward to on a Sunday, I've long held to the Calvin and Hobbes interpretation of sundays
All anyone on the Enterprise had to tell the stock broker was “you’re on a military expedition vessel, we’ll make you as comfortable as we can, but understand a number of areas are compartmented and restricted to crew.”
The parasite idea ended up getting dropped in favor of something else for multiple reasons apparently. They're mentioned in a few novels but only make an actual appearance again in star trek online
Hey Jen! I've been watching and loving your TNG reactions, so I took the time to work out your entire schedule for the rest of the series. (It's what we nerds do.) According to my calculations, reacting to your usual two episodes every Sunday, it should take you the next year-and-a-half to get thru the entire series! You may have already worked this out, so this may be more for your viewers than for you, but barring any delays or scheduling issues, you will watch the two-part series finale on August 3, 2025! Mark your calendars, Trek fans! 🖖🤓
@@jenmurrayxo Oh yes, I'm sure a lot can happen in a year-and-a-half! I doubt that your schedule will work out exactly the way we figured it! No worries .... either way, I'll be watching right along with you! 🤓
Same. Haven't watched this episode possibly since the premiere. The Ambassador-class has grown to become one of my favorites next to the Constitution-refit.
12:15 Mark! Another stunt scene meant to demonstrate the alien's strength and how tough Geordi's body is, I guess. (As if they were in a Western Genre movie's saloon?) But to me, it demonstrates shoddy ship construction! 😁
they were worried that REMMICK's DEATH was too gruesome the special effects guy brought his son to see it his son said : " COOL " , I want a figure with a head that explodes "
Fun fact : the episode Conspiracy was banned in the UK until 91, with several minutes edited out. There is a few other episodes of TNG that were banned in the UK, one of them took a decade to air after its original production date.
Great eps today, Jen, and I think you almost hit 1.3K. These Next Jen premieres are a big hit because you're so much fun. Thanks! Time now for immediate rewatch!
I'd started to drift away from ST:TNG during season s1 because it just wasn't floating my boat. Then one night I happened to catch this episode and thought, "Okay, THAT'S more like it!"
I wonder if viewers (and reactors!) who only see this series in reruns or streaming can understand how exciting it was to finally see the Romulans back in their full glory when this ep 1st aired. Apart from a couple VERY fleeting appearances of "ambassadors" in the movies there hadn't been any new material with them since TOS over 20 years before. I don't think they even showed up in ST:TAS. I still remember how jazzed I was when the 1st D'Deredex uncloaked back in the day.
I remember at the time when these first aired on the BBC in the UK in 91, i was more hyped up by the return of the "You Know Whos" in the first season climax... But "Conspiracy" was very Very Edge of The Seat stuff... although the Beeb cut the ending to shreds on its initial outing (possibly not the sort of thing they wanted us to see with our tea at 6pm 😂) and it was a while (probably another 6 or 7 you) until we got to see the complete version (unless you had the overpriced VHS tapes)... These watched alongside Next Jen should be very cool !
on the initial showing on german tv, they had cut/censored only a few seconds from showing the head (what the thumbnail shows) to his explosion. but i find that quite understandable when showing it in a family (including children) "age unlimited" time slot.
Yeah, watching this I was thinking "Well, pretty sure _that_ wasn't on BBC2 at 6 o'clock" :). (couldn't remember seeing it but then a lot of S1 is a blank, never having rewatched it) ((and infamously of course, avoiding spoilers, there's "The High Ground", which many UK fans didn't see at all for years. Kind of apropos too, given we're now living in 2024 :))
That's not all the Beeb cut out. They removed Mr. Data's statement about a United Ireland because the Troubles were still in full effect...It turns out the year he mentioned was 2024 ... So any day now! 😀💚☘
It's not that Captain Picard was hesitant or trying to be friendly vs Hostile toward the Rommies, he was was being militarily responsible. The military order on this is second to none 😊
Episode 25, I seen when it first aired. I was a child. I still think about that scene where they kill the alien inside. It's burned into my memory. It haunts me.
The scene about how TV was something that didn't last past the 2040's, when I first heard that I couldn't believe it, but in the last 10-15 years I'm expecting it more and more.

As having never watched Star Trek, I hope you do continue the series. As for the last episode I feel like they're doing the classic TV thing, setting up for season 2. As for the humans being brought back, just a little nudge at dealing with your past? and moving forward? Great reaction Jen.
7:20 never realized how small Picard is. 😅
I was thinking the same thing!! Being a RUclips edit and not the full episode I'm not even sure what's going on to make it appear this way
At that point Picard is by the window, several feet behind Riker. The camera angle also appears slightly elevated which would enhance the effect. The clip immediately before has Picard just in front of Riker, and the height difference is only a few inches (slightly above average 5'10" vs somewhat tall 6'2.5")
His bio lists 5' 10" but he is about 5' 8". A full 6 inches shorter than Frakes.
The Romulan bird of prey is the best ship in the series ❤
Awesome reactions from Jen.
Especially to the amazing episode Conspiracy.
I can still remember when the episode was originally shown on UK tv, the BBC cut out all of the gross effects from the climax and it wasn't until I purchased it on VHS ( video tape ) that I got to see it! :)
Remember the scooped bases, the culprits will be revealed, and it's the worst enemy the Federation has ever faced
Sunday, finally, Star Trek TNG with Jen! 🙂
The 20th Century suit would be great in Intelligence once he's adapted to the 24th Century.
The unmitigated shock, horror and disgust was priceless. So glad you are watching tng. Lot of ❤
Jen, none of us watching the broadcast that night were ready for the gore.
It's a good rule of thumb that if there's something shady going on in the Alpha Quadrant the Romulans are directly (or at least partially) invovled.
Amazing reactions once again! I'm glad you enjoyed them, these are 2 of my favourites of the season. I look forward to watching season 2 with you.
Every time I see someone watching "Conspiracy" for the first time my heart starts pounding like it's going to burst out of my chest. Great stuff!
Star Trek rules.
Man, I can't think of another time I've had something I've looked forward to on a Sunday, I've long held to the Calvin and Hobbes interpretation of sundays
Thanks Captain Jen!
Nice reaction as usual!
Romulan ships are freaking amazing. Probably my favorite ships outside the Enterprises.
Your reaction at the gore was the best. We"ve got through the 1st season. I can't wait to continue on this next Jen journey 😊
16:44 Mark! Oh yeah, by the way! I seem to remember that one admiral being in the series "The High Chaparral" back in the day. 🤔
All anyone on the Enterprise had to tell the stock broker was “you’re on a military expedition vessel, we’ll make you as comfortable as we can, but understand a number of areas are compartmented and restricted to crew.”
That thumbnail is too scary Jen. 😨
Lol I have a spreadsheet with the dates as well. I may change the schedule over time tho, we'll have to play it by ear!
@@jenmurrayxo Oh yes, I'm sure a lot can happen in a year-and-a-half! I doubt that your schedule will work out exactly the way we figured it! No worries .... either way, I'll be watching right along with you! 🤓
The episode with the parasite creatures brought in a ton of new viewers.
I don't think I ever knew that the Ambassador was first mentioned in this episode. So cool to keep learning things after being a lifelong fan
Same. Haven't watched this episode possibly since the premiere. The Ambassador-class has grown to become one of my favorites next to the Constitution-refit.
Noice! Next Jen Sundays are a highlight of the weekend. Her enthusiasm is nearly as endearing as her general adorableness. And....Jengage 👉
12:15 Mark! Another stunt scene meant to demonstrate the alien's strength and how tough Geordi's body is, I guess. (As if they were in a Western Genre movie's saloon?) But to me, it demonstrates shoddy ship construction! 😁
If a friend asked me super specific "questions only I would know the answer to", they would definitely conclude I was an imposter.
they were worried that
REMMICK's DEATH
was too gruesome
the special effects guy
brought his son to see it
his son said :
" COOL " ,
I want a figure with a
head that explodes "
Fun fact : the episode Conspiracy was banned in the UK until 91, with several minutes edited out. There is a few other episodes of TNG that were banned in the UK, one of them took a decade to air after its original production date.
*there are a few…
Me speak English good sometimes! D’oh!
@@joeb918 Xander? Is that you?
No, I’m not Xander, though I think I may have encountered them elsewhere, they’re an editor yes?
The Monarchy do not have parasites. The Monarchy do not have parasites. The Monarchy do not have parasites. The Monarchy do not have parasites.
Yep, German TV had similar edits. I don't think I saw the full-gore version until I got the DVD set.
Thank you... for watching this series. Here's to hoping you make it through all the way to the movies!
Most unwise for Captain Picard to beam down to Starfleet Headquarters unarmed, given the fact that he KNEW the admiral wasn’t who he said he was.
Watching this after the Redlettermedia vid had me looking for mis-labelled doors and bits of tape stuck to carpet!
06:25 to to 06:52
😂
DATA
annoyed the computer
(couldn't remember seeing it but then a lot of S1 is a blank, never having rewatched it)
((and infamously of course, avoiding spoilers, there's "The High Ground", which many UK fans didn't see at all for years.
