Matchmakers know that, thats why they make the high ranked fights for them and people think its ''Dagestani Privilege'', its only privilege if they fail, just like Chandler failed after getting title shot over beating Dan only (Makhachev beat Dan + 9 ufc fighters more before title shot) or Colby getting 3 title shots and failing every time, Chandler and Colby has Dana White Privilege, Dagestani Privilege doesn't exist.

We know that is the narrative pushed by many, despite several fighters publicly calling them out. That is how the UFC and their managers market them -- fighters that nobody wants to fight. It isn't necessarily true.

- RDA, BJJ specialist, Khabib dominated prime RDA as well.

There's a difference between wrestlers, and good MMA wrestlers. Also "college wrestler" is a vague term that covers MANY different levels of wrestling. The highest level MMA grappler khabib faced in the UFC was RDA, who habitually got outgrappled by wrestlers, and in fact was coming off of a controversial win over Dunham in a fight where, you guessed it, RDA got out wrestled.
Saying umar is struggling to hold down people because the talent is higher than what khabib faced (skill wise) is not true sorry Aljo. I know you like to think your division is more skilful and it’s definitely up there but the reason why umar isn’t dominanting like khabib is because he grew up a Muay Thai fighter. He never was a grappler, he obviously is an mma fighter now and is well rounded but he had a completely different up bringing to khabib and different skillset.. if you listen to belal Muhammad talking about training with khabib leading up to the Leon fight. He said “Khabib probably thinks I suck” he held him down for 19minutes. Javier Mendez said to him don’t worry he does that to everyone, just try to get better tomorrow… umar, usman, Islam none of them are khabib. They’re all well rounded and great but nowhere near the same
Umar is not the grapplig spcialist, Khabib was. Umar is more well-rounded with a Taekwondo base first. Stop trying to discredit Khabib and his team.
Of course, BUT.... Khabib vs Iaquinta proves alone that the debt of grappling at 155 wasn't deep. Umar actually has to face guys that KNOW some kind of grappling, are faster, thus making the division more problematic. Umar isn't the same specialist, but I've seen him training, and know how good he is. So again, I think it's reasonable for me to say, the 135 division is tougher to just hold people down and beat them up as a grappling specialist, in comparison to Khabibs era of competition.

@FunkMasterUFC , Khabib outjabbed Iaquinta in the rounds that he didn't take him down, Iaquinta was sacrificing his striking defense for takedown defense vs Khabib, similar to how Khabib's overhand dropped Conor, Iaquinta was too focused on takedowns that Khabib was simply jab his face easily and won every rounds. Khabib even had two 10-8 rounds vs Iaquinta. You really think Khabib couldn't hold Iaquinta if he really wanted? He simply outjabbed him because it was easier as Iaquinta was forgetting striking defense due to takedown threat. Still Khabib had 6 takedowns and 10 minutes control time vs Iaquinta and two 10-8 rounds, complete 50-43 domination. Same Iaquinta in his next fight beat wrestler Kevin Lee who was no.5 ranked at that time.

Some people saying Umar should fight Figgy before title shot, Figgy is too short and small to handle Umar's kicks and Umar's wrestling. Remember how Makhachev kicked short Volk, Umar kicks short Figgy same way, Figgy also got taken down by flyweight Moreno, Umar's wrestling would be too much for him. If Figgy fights someone like Cory or Petr Yan and if he wins then he should be considered for the title shot.

If Belal, a trainee of AKA gym and Khabib, beat Leon Edwards, Khabib would have STARCHED Leon Edwards. Names like Tony Ferguson, Charles Oliveira, and Leon Edwards aren't in Khabib's resume simply due to timing. Umar is about to become champion soon, when he does, Khabib would have helped create FOUR CHAMPIONS under his tutelage: Usman, Islam, Belal, and Umar, if not more champions. I'm a big fan of Cory. He succeeded at shutting down Umar's grappling BUT he didn't Hurt Umar after that. Cory HAD to inflict DAMAGE after he proved he can deal with the grappling! Idk what happened for so much to go well but then also have zero output that inflicts damage as well? It really was such a close fight (meaning neither of them was a clear winner by damage) So I'm very surprised Cory didn't do more because I know he had to have realized it was a close fight. So why didn't Cory start deciding to take risks in like the 3rd round at the latest. Cory succeeded at so much when defending the grappling but didn't make Umar pay outside of that.. It's frustrating because I know Cory is capable of more than that offensively. I always enjoy watching Cory compete. I just wish he could have capitalized on the moments once he proved he can defend the grappling. I wish he left it all out there against Umar offensively.. Just trying to think back on it, I don't think I saw any combo's from Cory? At least anything that landed solid and with authority... I know he's capable of a lot.. I guess we just didn't get to see his offense in that fight.. Idk?

Umar biggest issue is his strength. He's not as stronger or stronger than anyone in his division. Same as Islam, he's not as strong as Khabib. They are both more technical but not as powerfully strong as the Eagle. This was the same issue for Mokaev. Natural strength was not there and couldn't hold anyone down. I think Corey was over confident and that hubris will mess up his ego. Same as Merab. Question is how did Aljo hold everyone down?! How sway?!

That’s why fighters have to get to a 8 hour time zone difference a lot earlier than a week. Cory body wasn’t adjusted yet to the new time zone and he got tired. I know it’s expensive to get there a month early. But it would help you win the fight.

The problem with these Dagestanis is that they are so highly skilled but with very low popularity which makes other fighters uninterested in fighting them. This is why Khabib Islam and Umar went from low level competition to fighting for the belt. They usually increase in popularity a lot but only after they are crowned as champions

Low popularity in the US. But global is another story. Omaley is UFC's biggest star i guess, he has 4.4m followers on instagram, Islam has double that. Sean is probably one of the few in his division that has more followers than Umar at 1.5m. I think no one wants to fight them simply because they dont want to lose.
Look the popularity from global scale and not only from American popularity. Umar is just rank 10 but has 1.5 million followers. That tells a lot.

I think that should mean something for # 1 contender fight with Umar.
