Absolute corking reaction & analysis, I simply adore your enthusiasm, excitement & the way you super geek out 😁
I love that you like when I geek out lol 🤗
At long last someone reacts to Lea and the Jupiter ensemble. 🔥🔥🔥
Also the first metal song ever! Grazie maestro Vivaldi! 🎸🎸🎸
Without reading ur description, the moment the music came on, I was like "this is vivaldi".. He has soo many many crazy pieces like this. One aria that this aria reminds me of is In Furore Iustissimae irae..
Vivaldi is a beast! I love his work!
@@jessicasopranonotes Vivaldi was the first metalhead haha. "Winter" has the best riff ever!
@@rolsen1304 Vivaldi's library is so vast and great that you can probably find even better and crazier than Winter, trust me !
Try RV419's 3rd movement for example (I don't think RUclips will let me put a link, but try the interpretation by Jean-Guihen Queyras · Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, it's electrifying).
🔥🔥🔥 I just discovered Lea and Thomas and Jupiter and this video in particular is mind blowing. And your analysis really helps me appreciate it even more, and you felt the same way I do about it. I'll be watching this a few more times. Baroque music is so fun, and they have really revived it. 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for this, I would never have found this without you.
You're welcome!
Holy crap! This was the reactor equivalent of a 'Fast and Furious' car chase. You're amazing. How many Red Bulls did you drink before this? You were positively beaming. Your enthusiasm was exploding out of you like a supernova. 🔥🔥🔥
haha. I actually don't like energy drinks at all. Too sugary for my taste. The music alone gives me enough energy lol
@@jessicasopranonotes Yeah, I was just using the analogy. Obviously, you don't need anything else but great performances to light that fire. Music is your life. The passion and the energy of this singer and these musicians were incredible.
LOVE THIS. Your enthusiasm is infectious, combined with your analysis - props for showing exactly how the singer varies between the first A and recapped A section. Hopefully you've made some converts to this genre!! Brava.
Thank you thank you! It’s what I’m passionate about!
This was fun to watch and vicariously imagine we could appreciate it as much as you can.
Edit : 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This aria "Armatae face et anguibus" is gorgeous. And listen to the aria "Gelido in ogni vena" from Vivaldi's opera "Farnace" and the aria "Sposa, son Disprezzata".
Sposa son disprezzata is one of my favorite arias, it is so beautiful. I’ve recently added it to my repertoire list and am now working on memorizing to play the accompaniment. Great recommendations!
🔥 I’m moving towards opera from a starting point in symphonic metal, so it’s great that you pick pieces like this and then explain what to listen out for. Fiery indeed, but your reaction made so much difference to my enjoyment.
❤I love your reaction to this fabulous performance. ❤ Lea. ❤ baroque music.
Jessica, congrats from Canada. Vivaldi wrote a lot of dramatic music and this is a great example. Lea is an accomplished musician. She studied with Sarah Mingardo a fabulous contralto. You should look at her other performances. For example Scherza Infida by Handel from his opera Ariodante accompanied by Les Arts Florissants directed by William Christie, a real force in the baroque scene, where she captures the mood creating a very emotionally charged rendition. Great orchestra too. The violist Jerome in this group is a character. Love your enthusiasm and knowledge of classical music including Baroque which sure is not dull. Cam Reid 🔥🔥💥☄️🔥🔥
I have to look up Sarah Mingardo. I love the contralto voice and am looking forward to learning about a new one. Thanks for all of your info! Will definitely check it out!
Thank you! I wanted to make a comment and then I discovered that you did it for me
Definitely 🔥🔥🔥 Can't wait to see more of you "behind the scene" on your new channel🔥
Baroque music can be so ROCK - and you certainly rock! It is beyond me how on earth you manage to pick all those minute details in milliseconds and then REMEMBER them afterwards! Kudos, you’re great!
I follow you from Spain, I love how good your comments are in each style. I also love how you respect other genres and singing techniques, not all of classical trained people have the respect you have... I am classical trained cellist, and now this is my favorite channel. I have such a big list of request that I'll wait to see how you surprise us.
That coloratura passage was so precise and amazing! I’m a lyrical soprano (full) and I’m currently working on two coloratura pieces (my teacher thankfully is a lyrical coloratura so she knows how to sing these). It is so much harder than it looks but she makes it look so effortless. Great analysis! Love your enthusiasm!
Amazing breakdown and loved the spontaneous reactions. ❤
Love this! I love your positivity and excitement and truly appreciate your in-depth analysis. Looking forward to listening to more!! Thank you!
Great reaction Jess... fire, fire, fire.... I can imagine you head banging in the audience if watching live... your music knowledge is so impressive, your awesome!

@@jessicasopranonotes it makes me miss opera so much. I used to sing in a young learners opera company before my parents convinced me that I had to choose one of the "approved" career paths (doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc).... while I love science and I do enjoy my job, the 17-year old me walking off stage as Escamillo for the last time still mourns a bit... but this reaction just woke him up again!!!
From live chat - thank you for sharing link to this again (how could I have missed it the 1st time...) excellent review and such an energetic song and performance. More please :-)
Lea is awesome and pretty, too. Plus, I like anyone who is still doing baroque as it should be done. I saw Jean Rondeau in this video as well, he is an amazing harpsichord player. This is definitely my second favorite performance of this aria. Number one, of course, is Cecilia Bartoli.
watching people talk about what theyre passionate about is the mostttt fun. You look so happy and gorg

@@jessicasopranonotes 💖💖💖🎶🎶🎶💖💖💖
Baroque was a wildly creative time when music was freed from narrow folk and church traditions, partly by the needs of religious and political revolutions in which people needed to be engaged emotionally. So court patrons were willing to hear unusual music, and opera houses let works be created or presented without elite patronage as such.
The conventions of opera are also not fixed yet, so Mozart could write crazy difficult parts that maybe three sopranos in Europe could even attempt at the time. Or this wonderful coloratura piece which again may be a couple dozen voices that can deliver it this well. Or heck, a couple. She's brilliant.
Henk Poort and Floor Jansen have an hour interview in her channel where they lament the European derived conventions of pigeonholing artists. Beste Zangers was helpful to kick that to death, at least in Netherlands, but it's very much alive in opera politics. It hurts everyone, but is commercially motivated, as the producers dont want genius individuals to become the show as in pop music, because then the vocalist has bargaining power. Also instrumentalists will always get short shrift from any focus on the vocalist(s). So innovation, distortion, timing tricks, ad libbing, all discouraged.
But in baroque, the singer is "allowed to add notes" in certain passages. Like in blues, rock, jazz. Which really is the best way because it provides for expression and individuality, and diva star power (in the "A prime") while keeping the rest of the song predictable.

💛 you more
A lot of people enjoy the opera… I’ve never seen anyone go absolutely nuts over it. This was fun and kind of funny. I like this side of you, please post more opera reactions.
I watched this video the other day and was so overwhelmed, I couldn't comment afterward. As I listened to this video, I could not stay still, I jumped from my seat, stomped around my apartment muttering to myself, the purity of her notes, the mastery of her voice, and the piece itself hit me in a place I do not have a name for. I am very glad you agree, that this was a masterful performance.
Lea Desandre, spectacular passion. Symphonic Metal got me into Opera. Still a novice, but have some favorites.
Left a message for you in Epica reaction. This is Richard from Valentines Day, using a different channel.

Link's wonky.
Karina Gauvin is still my absolute favorite performer of this aria but Lea is exquisite as well. And your analysis is so interesting and fun to watch. Been a while since I subscribed in an instant! You go girl!
I LOVE her reactions❤
I'm watching this reaction again cuz it may be the best reaction to anything ever lol
Thank you for watching!
Great reaction Jess, always love to listen to your insight of the individual, group, and/or music. This young lady has one incredible voice and is extremely comfortable to listen to throughout video.
Another great voice; Melody Cristea is your next reaction video.. Front woman with a incredible voice for a family band called Liliac.... Some videos to react to... Originals songs: Nothing, Sail Away, and/or newest called Mystery. Some covers may be Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself For Loving You", Metallica's "Master of Puppets", Ronnie James Dio "Holy Diver". Many, many others of both. Enjoy!!
That is the most animated I have seen you to date....this blew me away...thanks Jess.
anytime Butch!
Love your enthusiasm!!!
we are waiting....
Yes I love this aria and Lea! React to Handel "Da Tempeste" with Cecilia Bartoli please!
Aria is so beautiful on this bravo! It indeed helps to act out the words you are singing to properly sing the song. Very very powerful which is very hard for girls to sing which is inert to men. The accompaniment is superb perhaps she would be lost without it hahaha perhaps not. Very much appreciated.
I love your energy in this review! I had the same reaction when I originally watched it.
Thank you!! 😁
@@jessicasopranonotes Of course! Long time no see, I'm glad to see your channel thriving :)
At 13:01 you hit on a REALLY important distinction between baroque and later "opera".
Or this wonderful Vivaldi coloratura piece which again may be a couple dozen voices that can deliver it this well.
Also instrumentalists will always get short shrift from any focus on the vocalist(s). So innovation, distortion, timing tricks, ad libbing, all discouraged.
No doubt expression was freer when this was written But in modern baroque, the singer is "allowed to add notes" in certain passages. Like in blues, rock, jazz. Which really is the best way because it provides for expression and individuality, and diva star power (in the "A prime") while keeping the rest of the song predictable.
That was really cool! Love the piece and the performance. You have such a clear and expressive enunciation and pronunciation when you speak, are you using a lot of technique from your profession or is this how you naturally speak (or both)? Anyway, you are a joy to listen to.
Oh thank you Peter! Umm, I naturally speak this way. I did work in 5 star hotels for quite some time and being well spoken is a must.
You reaction to Armatae was the first time I watched your video, before I found you doing Akin Ka Na Lang. “Armatae face et anguibus” is a great favorite of mine, and I love Léa Desandre to bits. I’ve seen most of the Armatae videos on RUclips and given that Léa gave a very impassioned performance, I think the best, technically, is by Roberta Invernizzi. You should give it a view. My training is in classic guitar, but I’m passionate with opera and piano For the former, too many to list. For the latter, my idol is Hélène Grimaud.
I now this comment is a bit late, but I don't care! I love this aria! I first heard this from the great Cecilia Bartoli. Her version is less mastery of the aria and more--she is the character in the aria looking to kill her enemy in the audience. She was intense but marvelous! Lea's version--I just found out about Lea and she's fantastic!
If you have already listened to them, check out Cecilia and Julia Lezhneva's version are scary great! For me anyway.
That was amaZZZZINGG
Your music theory is way over my head unfortunately but I totally relate to your excitement! I don't know what's more entertaining - the performance or your reaction to it. There should be way more likes on this. Subscribed!
Thank you soo much!
💥💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
First off, I love this aria and your reaction as well as passion.
However, isn't this aria super famous and common on the radio? I think they play it a lot on musique 3 (Belgian opera/classical radio). Still so in love with this tho.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥
I stopped listening to the radio years and years ago so I can't confirm but I wouldn't be surprised if it was on the radio bc of how entertaining it is.
@@jessicasopranonotes I prefere radio during the quarantine (and some RUclips channels oviously) But I mostly stay on that 1 classical music & opera station because I can't stand much of anything else. And the presentaters simply introduce the next piece quietly (bit SMR-y) almost.
AND NO ADD.
You are hilarious 😂
Lea Desandre just came out with her own album! There are so many fantastic songs on there. Nothing will ever measure up to this song for me, but there is an amazing, energetic song on there that I’ll bet you’ll like! I’ll find a link for it and reply to myself!

If you were around youtubing when I was in high school, I might have learned how to listen to opera
Why is she placing her fists against her face at 10:36? Does it help with the low "vos"? Thank you for your commentary!
I love baroque music, why have i not heard this aria before?!?

I want a pop song modeled exactly after this but slowed down. May you please write it and sing it too, Soprano Notes?
If someone wrote it for me, I'd def sing it!
Im so pumped watching your reaction hahaha
Can you react to amy manford cover of once upon a december?
How about "Queen of the Night" aria performed by the German soprano Diana Damrau in Mozart's Magic Flute which is no doubt the most difficult aria to sing. Do also react to the finest arias performed by my all time favorite opera diva the legendary Maria Callas.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amazingly in comparisons of various singers of this piece, Lea only gets about 40% of the nods as best. Seems every singer loves to give it all for this amazing Vivaldi piece!
🎆🎆🎆🎆 I love it.
All those hand gestures from 1:00 on ... is that ISL (Italian Sign Language)? Seems like you speak it native. 🤣
This "furious" singing is just wonderful. Was that just a baroque thing? Only a few musical theater pieces today have this kind of awesome tone.
lol yes I do speak with my hands a lot especially when I'm excited about something. No, that can be applied to other types of music as well!
Could you possibly react to Sabine Devieilha singing Mozart’s oh dio?
O Placida il Mare by Julia Lezhneva please!! Or Vedi se t'amo - Joyce Didonato

I love your analyses so much! As an aspiring theatrical music director, I am always interested in watching trained singers/coaches react to vocal performances and deconstruct what the singers are doing. On top of being an active performer, I have also taken up the hobby of creating custom backing tracks for content creators' spontaneous singing moments. One such video that I've made features beloved RUclipsr and podcaster Garrett Watts singing in a stunning, quasi-operatic falsetto resembling the sound of a Disney princess. Here's the link to the video: ruclips.net/video/A8KdUuPQhlg/видео.html
Thank you!
You must do Cecilia Bartoli performing this. She set a very high bar!
Omg...vivaldi created hard rock
I wanna ask you a question, there's a lot of talk recently in the US that Europeans have no culture. What's your take on this? Being European I'm not sure what this means and I need to understand this notion.
Gosh, I always love your reactions and all the analysis part it's always so interesting!! I'm so happy that I discovered your channel. Could you please react to Dancing With The Devil? It's the lead single of Demi Lovato's new album (which is full of good songs both in musicality and in the lyrics). She also did a various live performances of that song and others.
Thank you Daniel! And a little secret: I just recorded that video yesterday, editing it now 🤫
Hi Jessica
Thanks so much for replying.
I love your approach to music reviews. You have a lovely personality and a ‘joie de vivre‘ as my neighbours say next door in Quebec. Where by the way Lara now lives in Montreal.
I have discovered a huge amount of classical music which I love on RUclips.

She has an amazing range and such warmth in her voice.
On this one she sings But who may abide the day of His coming from the Messiah by Handel:

And here she is with the sublime Sandrine Piau.

I meant to tell you later about Piau in case you had not found her yourself already. But I couldn’t wait.
I can send you links to her recordings if you wish.
Now, on Lea here is another performance of Armatae Face et Anguibus in unusual surroundings. These days they have to be inventive to bring in some money.

Hope this helps a bit. I have more on Lara and Lea. I’ll write separately on them.
Except, here’s Lea singing Scherza Infida. Can’t keep you waiting for it.

Les Arts Florrisants is conducted by William Christie. Hugely emotive performance. Watch the tender moment at the end where he holds her and wipes a tear from her eye!

I've seen that performance, and my God it's so good!
Apparently conductors get paid only to stay totally quiet as they do exactly what you did there. 🤣
Apparently conducting is just silent Italian Sign Language.🤣
And they better get paid a lot because I honestly don't know how anyone sits quiet through that. Truly amazing.
omg I'd be HORRIBLE at conducting a piece like this. All I'd want to do is scream and shout and bob my head hardcore because it's so exciting.
