During the 1960s the Air Cadets flew gliders at weekends and there were “heritage” airshows. In late 1960s into early 1970s, most of the site became GLC Housing with schools and facilities. The Large hangers became the first part of the RAF museum. The RAF retained an computer operation from the until the late 1980s. The Officers’ mess is now Halls of Residence for Middlesex University. ( a listed building) In 1968 , for the film “The Dirty Dozen” , the aerodrome was used as a filming location.
The last aircraft to fly in to Hendon was Blackburn Beverley XH124. It belonged to the MOD and they were giving it to the RAF Museum Hendon. The Museum were (and are) only interested in sexy fighters and bombers so they left it outside and allowed it to rot. Then one day they scrapped it.

I remeber flying from Hendon, the Welsh Harp was a marker for it.
Sky Bike was filmed here too. Unfortunately, the airfield did pass into obscurity and oblivion.
