My husband joined the army when he was 16 yrs old while Vietnam war was going on. He was too young and shouldn't have been there. He told me he was very scared. We were both teenagers. I was pregnant, so we got married. He wanted to take care of us but he figured he couldn't get a good job at his age. After a year he was captured and held for two years. Can you imagine a teenager going through that? He finally came home but he was never the same. He never got help for his torture. I lived with a stranger until he passed away of cancer in 2017. I loved the soldiers giving him a 21 gun salute for his bravery, and for Trump to say he was a sucker and a loser made me so angry. He's a traitor to this country.

I served in the Marines at the same time as your husband was in the Army. Trump NEVER said vets were suckers and losers. Trump rebuilt the military that was a mess after Obama. and he gave them one of the biggest raises in history. There is tons of video of Trump interacting the our vets and active duty military. It is clear he likes them and they like him. There is no video or audio of Trump calling vets suckers and losers. One guy that hates Trump said that! The media hate Trump so they talked about it nonstop like it actually happened.

Thank you for sharing, and so sorry for your sacrifices along with your husband. During the war, I was an anti-war protester, but I never condemned the young men who volunteered or were drafted. They were brothers in arms, and I believe that they fought for each other more than the lies and secrets of the u.s. government. I do condemn those protesters who tried to blame soldiers. He was given the chance to be released early but refused. He was adamant about the first captured should be the first released. As a veteran, I've said this to any other service member and to civil service members as well. How can you consciously vote for an individual who doesn't have any respect for the people who are willing to give their lives in service of our country? This, in my eye's, is un-American and unforgivable, and the fact that he was a President of the United States is evidence that Americans are starting to loose their since of Patriotism. i am British , I cannot understand how an former president of the US can say things like this against the brave servicemen and women who have lost their lives or have been injured, serving their country. In 1944 on the coast of Normandy, many US troops were killed. Having lost members of my family in the British Army who served alongside the US troops, I feel disgusted by his comments. When I was younger and learning history, I always wondered how the German citizens, before and during World War II, could support Hitler? There were neighbors against neighbors and family members. @gsmith7309, very well stated! My great uncle died trying to save the lives of his fellow sailors when the USS Longshaw DD-559 was destroyed by a Japanese land battery on Okinawa. The men had been fighting kamakazi attacks for several days. The Long Shaw got stuck on a coral reef, due to extreme fatigue of the crew. It proved to be too tempting to the Japanese land battery and they opened fire. My great uncle and others who made the ultimate sacrifice weren't "suckers" or "losers".

I think those coming back like you, probably live with an inner pain, a pain that doesn't go away, some wounds never heal. I am a now retired police officer from Berlin - Germany. I would have refused to even be in the same room with a person like Trump. To be honest, I wouldn't have cared at all about any disciplinary consequences. A person whose only desirable values are power and money, is completely unacceptable as president. A person who has evaded service with a weapon with a "certificate" dares to call dead soldiers losers and idiots; a former fighter pilot who was shot down is a loser. You Trump are an absolute coward with no moral values. The discussion about the Medal of Honor was the cherry on Trump's cake. One thing you can be sure of is my absolute contempt.

My husband is a Navy veteran and I am appalled at the horrible statements Trump made about soldiers. He is unqualified and unfit to be the POTUS. Speaking of British, when he was president, I couldn't believe that his press secretary compared him to winston Churchill, one of the greatest reasons for the end of ww2, and a great war hero in his own right.
A grade 9 classmate of my daughter's was killed in Afghanistan. She saw his face on display on the front of the Toronto Star and wondered why his face was on it. Then, she read the story. "Oh!" He was well liked. I burst into tears at a Kingston City Council meeting when his father spoke about his sacrifice. A loss like that is very personal.
A friend of my parents got his draft number when he turned 18. It was a super low number so he knew he would definitely be drafted. (Think low double digits) He decided to enlist so he could at least pick what branch he would be in. He picked the Navy, survived Vietnam and lived a long life with his high-school sweetheart and their children. His sweetheart sadly passed not too long ago. 😢

My husband joined the army when he was 16 yrs old while Vietnam war was going on. He was too young and shouldn't have been there. He told me he was very scared. We were both teenagers. I was pregnant, so we got married. He wanted to take care of us but he figured he couldn't get a good job at his age. After a year he was captured and held for two years. Can you imagine a teenager going through that? He finally came home but he was never the same. He never got help for his torture. I lived with a stranger until he passed away of cancer in 2017. I loved the soldiers giving him a 21 gun salute for his bravery, and for Trump to say he was a sucker and a loser made me so angry. He's a traitor to this country.
Thanks for your bravery, dedication And sharing your story. I was there in the Northern part for 13 mths.; D took a decade to get back home mentally.

I served in the Marines at the same time as your husband was in the Army. Trump NEVER said vets were suckers and losers. Trump rebuilt the military that was a mess after Obama. and he gave them one of the biggest raises in history. There is tons of video of Trump interacting the our vets and active duty military. It is clear he likes them and they like him. There is no video or audio of Trump calling vets suckers and losers. One guy that hates Trump said that! The media hate Trump so they talked about it nonstop like it actually happened.

They were brothers in arms, and I believe that they fought for each other more than the lies and secrets of the u.s. government. I do condemn those protesters who tried to blame soldiers. He was given the chance to be released early but refused. He was adamant about the first captured should be the first released. As a veteran, I've said this to any other service member and to civil service members as well. How can you consciously vote for an individual who doesn't have any respect for the people who are willing to give their lives in service of our country? This, in my eye's, is un-American and unforgivable, and the fact that he was a President of the United States is evidence that Americans are starting to loose their since of Patriotism. Once we forget that freedom isn't free and that it is paid for by the lives we've lost through the bravery of those who have served is when our country is no longer the beacon of greatness it once was. His remarks both outrage and saden me and I hope it does the same to you my fellow Americans.

My father served in the Korean War, and my uncle served in Vietnam. My uncle was so traumatized from his experience, he rarely spoke to much of anyone after returning; and this was for the rest of his life. A part of his soul was ripped away and never returned with him.

i am British , I cannot understand how an former president of the US can say things like this against the brave servicemen and women who have lost their lives or have been injured, serving their country. In 1944 on the coast of Normandy, many US troops were killed. Having lost members of my family in the British Army who served alongside the US troops, I feel disgusted by his comments. When I was younger and learning history, I always wondered how the German citizens, before and during World War II, could support Hitler? There were neighbors against neighbors and family members. Jews, homosexuals, intellectuals, and others seen as less than or the enemy, were taken away and killed. Not until Donald Trump did I begin to understand the psychology and the evil behind the likes of Hitler, Trump and other authoritarian dictators. I have great respect for those who have served our country in wars, and many of them, most of them, are not around for people to say thank you to, because they died in combat. I think those coming back like you, probably live with an inner pain, a pain that doesn't go away, some wounds never heal. I'd be in favor of our tax dollars paying for free therapy, physical or mental for anyone who served in combat.

A person who has evaded service with a weapon with a "certificate" dares to call dead soldiers losers and idiots; a former fighter pilot who was shot down is a loser. You Trump are an absolute coward with no moral values. The discussion about the Medal of Honor was the cherry on Trump's cake. One thing you can be sure of is my absolute contempt.
From a generational family of veterans I offer my gratitude to the 1% who do what is asked of them in times of war and peace. To the families of the fallen and wounded words are not sufficient as I say thank you for your service.

My husband is a Navy veteran and I am appalled at the horrible statements Trump made about soldiers. He is unqualified and unfit to be the POTUS. My classmate in high school was drafted and sent to Vietnam. He was killed over there. Makes me sad to think about him.
A grade 9 classmate of my daughter's was killed in Afghanistan. She saw his face on display on the front of the Toronto Star and wondered why his face was on it. Then, she read the story. "Oh!" He was well liked. I burst into tears at a Kingston City Council meeting when his father spoke about his sacrifice. A loss like that is very personal.
A friend of my parents got his draft number when he turned 18. It was a super low number so he knew he would definitely be drafted. (Think low double digits) He decided to enlist so he could at least pick what branch he would be in. He picked the Navy, survived Vietnam and lived a long life with his high-school sweetheart and their children. His sweetheart sadly passed not too long ago. 😢
