@@CVshorey Thanks for the insight. I certainly find it interesting how most of the Earths rocks on the surface as well as Mantle are hinged together by the Silicate Tetrahedron. When I consider that Silicon arose from Oxygen burning stars, it is interesting how Silicons structure yearns for 4 Oxygens and evolves to other silicates along the Bowen’s Reaction Series. Our Earth is a lattice of little pyramids.
I'm not sure why you said that the term "hornblende" isn't used anymore. Here in North Texas and in plenty of old and new books, as well as newer youtube videos you can hear the word.
I have been watching all your videos! I understand that olivine Is part of the earths mantle, correct? I think that would be an unusual and cool thing to have. Can one find in a natural state in California or nearby??
You can definitely get olivine at the surface, and it makes the gemstone Peridot. Olivine in the Mantle converts first to wadsleyite, then spinel, then perovskite.
Such a useful video. Thanks for taking the time to make it!
this video deserves more views
I'm sending these to our metamorphic petrology instructor for this coming fall. Hope he'll use them. Thanks for all your kind words and support.
Hanvey Xavero yesss very true
This guy rocks
Love the intro music wow
Glad to have found you.
Olivine and Diopside are the most beautiful minerals in the world. They are just...hypnotizing! I love them!
Have to watch several times to almost 'memorize'
I wonder if one can say that most of the Earth is green since the mantle rock contains primarily an olivine rich peridotite ?
I could have gone into more detail. Most of the mantle, and maybe half the mass of the Earth is silicate perovskite. More of a brown to black color.
@@CVshorey Would this be Bridgmanite?
@@hereandclear788 the Mg rich end member, yes

I have seen a basalt flow near Vegas that had nice olivine crystals just off I-15. South side.
Thank you sir
I tried to buy some olivine specimens online. You'd think theyd be cheap and easy to get because they're so bountiful but i was disappointed 😞
Try Thetford Mines & Val des Sources QC (previously the town of Asbestos)
thanks
