You can certainly try from the side panel. However I was replacing the rubber window trim as well. Thus I needed to take the interior panel out which made it more accessible.
Hi. I have a very similar situation with my Australian 05 A8L D3 model where the RH rear Passenger door will at random not engage the security lock when the door handle button is depressed and I then have to open the same door inside of the car with its internal handle to get the door to open as the external handle lifts but will not engage the mechanism to open the door normally. When the door is open and as a workaround (band-aid fix) I then have to remove the small round Plastic plug when "removed" it will expose the key shape slot in the door frame (the plastic plug has a elongated rectangular slot molded into it) on the door trim approximately 4 inches above the V shaped hole/slot (near the door seal rubber) for the door closure/lock and insert the ignition key (do not rotate the key) into the Key slot hole which when pushed in fully will override/reset the door alarm/close system. Audi have included it as a back up in-case of a fault, this is at least a way of ensuring the car is locked and alarm is activated. I use the program VCDS to talk to the car via the OBD2 port and it informs me that its a intermittent fault it is either in the door handle or a a connector etc. Other programs I use for reference are Etka & Elsawin. You did a good job explaining the disassemble procedure very interesting to see all of the inner door workings. If you ever have to do a timing belt change on your motor I would be extremely interested if you can document the correct procedure of removing the front bumper assembly as this would be very helpful. As I have owned my Audi for over 7 years i have a reasonably good understanding of its intricacies, glad to help if i can. Cheers Grant.
Had to take out my front left main window switch module. Got everything switched out. Having difficulty putting door panel back on. Do you have any tips ? Thx
Hey Jason, rest assured if you've completed the module switch, you're well past the hard part. If the door panel is not going on with a simple snap in, check that your screws and the washers are aligned. As you pulled the panel off it's possible some of the connectors are on the door and some are on the panel. I'd get them all to the door or the panel. If you're still stuck, feel free to email me your contact info and we can chat. fvmcgee@gmail
Adding this to my list of things I’ll never do again.
Great video, thank you! These door handle are real nasty.
Thanks for watching!
So can you just remove the handle in an attempt to fix the lock button by loosening the torx 15 and without dissembling interior door panels etc.?
I believe that you can. However I was also replacing the rubber seal trim as well.
@@CarNGuitarDude thanks
I believe you can if all you need to replace is the external handle part.
Thanks for the great video. So can you remove the door handle without removing all the interior door panels?
Just one question. Can’t you just unscrew the handle with the T10/15 through the back without taking frame out ??
