hey so i was skipping through the lessons but this comment gave me the motivation to have actually earned that “bravo” haha it sounds stupid but thank you for this comment
I'm 62 and played this on my guitars throughout 25 years in service. However, picking up parts here and there while in Marines wasn't accurate as Mr. Page. Never was, until now! When I came across your lessons I said to myself..."This Is A Very Good Teacher". You're an inspiration and a perfectionist. The best kind with much patience for any layman to learn and learn it RIGHT. Thank you for what you are doing and may God Bless your wonderful gift of teaching.
Come on guys, chill out. It's not perfect but close enough to fool most ears out there. The studio version of the song has about 4 guitar tracks played over each other. I have heard Jimmy Page play it live and it's a freaking mess trying to play it by his lonesome. Been playing 25 years and taught for 15.
Well said. Also, music is supposed to be self expressive, even when you're playing someone else's song. Personally I never had much use for learning an entire song note for note with the recording. Unless you're playing in a cover band or something, I don't see the point. I think feel is more important; especially with a song like Stairway. I don't think Jimmy will be offended if we take some creative liberties with it. 😉 These videos are great for getting the broad strokes down, and that's really all you need. Your ears and creativity can do the rest.
@@carterhurt1910 same here I learn the basics of a song, and if during I learn it and I feel a little different about it, I play it like I like it, for Hendrix it worked pretty well, if u compare dylans all along the watchtower to jimis😅
This song feels like a companion to me since the early 70's. I am 61 now finally learning to play this hymn by the help of the one and only Marty Schwartz. It's no longer a book with seven seals, learn it in tiny steps, five to ten minutes per day and slowly but steady getting closer to guitar lesson part 4!
Hey Marty! Gaining on it! Thanks a million buddy! Too cool for words! Brings back a memory of running in the snow with my beagle pal Josh on a cold winters eve in '71 with this song stuck in my head. Very bright memory in what was otherwise a very dark time for me & now playing it. Means a lot to me, thanks man! Stay safe, you & yours! Dave in the Adirondacks
I wish I would have started playing when I had told my Daughter on plane flight home after her mother passed away.. She was only 20 days old her mom had just turned 21, I was 22.. I hadn't kept those those words until 25yrs later until I woke up in hospital after being in a Induced coma for 1 1/2mos.. l was still in a wheelchair unable to speak well from trek I received, along with a feeding tube still put thru my abdomen. My wife took me to music store only days after my release from hosp, they set me up with acoustic & amp. I didn't know at the time I had received TBI as well which made it all but impossible to learn. I have tried to play over the yrs but only scene this last winter have I had any luck with memory retention.. I'm not sure what clicked inside my brain but I'm not complaining. I am having issues with my fingers had surgery in 2019 for finger lock both hands..Last summer I ended up with a deep cut on back of left hand between Ring & Pinky fingers.. I just finished my 4th wk recuperating from Back surgery.. I still haven't gave up & tomorrow is my 64th birthday... l appreciate your lesson & style of teaching.. I'm sure you have taught many more people to play than you realize. Thanks for delivering your talent to myself & everyone else who has the desire to use it.. ✌
The part at 14:00 is off a bit. Instead of, (From A string to B string) 2 0 0 1, it should be 2 0 0 3. And the Am part starts with a 0^1 hammer-on on the B string, then 2(G string). Then you just arpeggiate 4 notes in Am from A to B string. Also, 17:10 is 2 0 0 0 (From A to B), right before the strumming starts back.
I learnt this when I was in my late teens my dad and uncle taught me. Then stop stopped playing for 20 years. Just started again thanks Marty great tutorial as always. Can you please do more then a feeling, and Home Michael Buble, would love to surprise my wife with that one

I think the biggest mistake is that every beginner tries to learn this song first. And though many that do that succeed, it takes more intense, and long hours of practice. I thoroughly believe (and I speak from experience) that you should definitely come back after a few months of serious practice. I’ve played for a little over a year, and picked this up very easily. ONLY because I’ve practiced the necessary tools to learn this song. It’s not magic, just practice and don’t give up :)
same. I typically started learning harder songs to start off w on my acoustic cause strumming is boring lol. now its been over a year and I just bought my first electric. I decided to give this song a go and it really does come super easy. Problem is on the intro there's so many variations to remember but it becomes second nature after some time
