No wrong answers, but for folks like me whose first guitars were a 1964 Epiphone Texan and then a 1969 D18, I am programmed for 1 & 11/16. In fact, when I ordered a custom Martin, I ordered it with 1 & 11/16. Again, no wrong answers, but good for you for ordering various nut widths.
Paul, your comment about nut width and neck configuration got me thinking that maybe I am not so certain what I prefer. I have a lower-budget Aria (among others) that has a V-shaped neck and I can play that rather easily. I've played a Marting HD-28V and I do like that neck shape but tripped all over the string spacing, muting when I didn't want to, etc. If I had to guess, I'd say I prefer what I can play easily enough whatever neck shape or nut width that may be. I do find I prefer 1 11/16 nut widths and am fine at 1 3/4 as well. Also, even if I sometimes "trip" over a neck shape I play infrequently, I have adapted when I've played enough to develop useful muscle memory on a particular instrument. Still, some instruments are simply organically easier for me to play than others.
I have an x braced 312 Taylor. When I first got it I thought it was too bright. I use Martin Retros or some of the other mellow string choices. Doing so makes quite a difference, less Taylor brightness. It's a real fun guitar to play, typical Taylor.
Nice! I have a Taylor 114ce that feels like a 1 & 3/4 neck but it's not. I suspect it's the string spacing that can make a huge difference if it gives you a bit more space between the strings even with a narrower neck.
@@quintonking9960 Full apologies for misspelling your name. Damn embarrassing. Thank you for sharing your talents on this channel. Makes it so much more than a guitar showcase, tho it is an excellent one at that. I, too, am a Martin Man, and understand your leanings. You have a gift, and I do appreciate your sharing.
@@background4242 - Hey Dan - so @ 7-8 seconds, I believe it's a Gmaj7: index finger, 1st string, 2d fret; middle finger, 6th string, 3d fret; ring finger 2d string, 3d fret. When playing, I'm skipping over the open A/5th string. For 28 seconds in, I'm seeing a D (w/ an F# on the bottom): index, 6th string, 2d fret; middle, 3d string, 2d fret. When playing this chord, I'm only hitting the 6th, 4th, and 3rd string and my intended root is really the open 4th. Hope that helps, but let me know if I'm on the wrong chords!
Can anyone tell me why I feel a difference in the nut width from a 712ce 12 fretter which is 1-3/4" vs a 312/512/712 ce with also a 1-3/4" nut but feels a little narrower. The 12- fretter just feels and looks wider..?

A 312ce IS a short scale! Quinton is/was correct. Thanks Quinton and Paul.
Love your videos Paul and Quinton! I hope you guys will make videos over 10mins in length to get monetized properly 😉

Not a professional? He's a professional AFAIC, that's for sure!!
Loved the music you played so well.
Fantastic job Quinton 👍
This or D18, cant decide,
Does anyone else come here to listen to Quentin? Yes, the guitars are lovely as well.
I enjoy listening to both the guitars and Quinton.
Sincere thanks Jake - truly appreciate the kind encouragement!

Sounds good Q. What is the second to the last chord you play? Could you tell me which finger is on which fret?
Hi Dan - can you give me a time point in the vid for the chord you're referring to and I'll try to answer your questions :)
@@quintonking9960 7 -8 seconds and 28 seconds. Thanks in advance. Awful nice of you to respond

Oh yessssssss. Finally!!!!!! Except I'm innAustralia... 😉
I have smaller hands (no jokes) would i be better buying a guitar with a nut width of 1 11/16? Cheers.
Probably so but it's always best to play different guitars to see what works best for you.

It’s the angle of your hand in relation to the neck. It’s a more extreme angle the closer your hand is toward your body.
My Gibson j45 is 1.725 and 16 radius and i think its too fat to or me
Hi what is the string spacing at the bridge please?
2 3/16"
