They basically became a fake tale from San Francisco. But all great garage bands have at most two brilliant albums then go splat. It impossible to stay relevant and in that vibe when you already became big fat rich rockstars
@@ishmaelforester9825 I think this misses the point of the song. The idea of Fake Tales was that there were these kids from Sheffield pretending they were successful rockstars living in L.A. mansions. Arctic Monkeys actually became the real deal. There's no fake tales. Alex Turner is a fully-fledged rockstar. If he was still writing songs about clubs in Sheffield, it would be those that were the fake tales, not the other way around. Listening to a 30-something millionaire, adored by millions, singing about getting rejected from an indie club in Hillsborough would just be laughable. While the first two albums might resonate with certain people more, I think it's far more interesting to evolve musically than to try to reproduce lightning in a bottle. Look at most of the other British indie bands of that time: Kaiser Chiefs, Kooks, Maximo Park, Franz Ferdinand; they didn't stray too far and so got left behind. Arctic Monkeys evolved and as such, became arguably the biggest British band of the last decade.
I think of the Arctic's best songs are when they are singing about Sheffield and the life there
But the thing is it’s horrible in Sheffield

What does 'he's pinched me bird' mean?
Bird is slang for girlfriend
G L thanks!
Bird is a slang for girl
"Bird" is slang for woman -- usually a girlfriend. "Pinched" is slang for stole. "Pinched me bird" means "Stole my girl", basically.
He's nicked his girl
