  • Tolibkhon Shakhidi (b. 13 March 1946, Dushanbe, Tajikistan) is a renowned Tajik composer. Son of Ziedullo Shakhidi, the founder of 20th-century Tajik music, Tolibkhon began his musical journey at age 14. He graduated from the Musical College in Dushanbe in 1965 and later studied at the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory, where he was mentored by Aram Khachaturian. His orchestral works were performed by notable conductors, including Mikhail Terion and Maxim Shostakovich.
    Shakhidi's compositions blend Eastern and Western musical traditions, often drawing from theater and cinema. His works span opera, ballet, symphonies, and instrumental music, with a distinctive fusion of European and Asian styles. Inspired by playwrights like Sophocles and Shakespeare, his compositions have a dramatic quality, captivating audiences worldwide. He regularly participates in international festivals and has won multiple awards, including the International Competition of Contemporary Music in the U.S. and the National Rudaki Prize in Tajikistan.
